Would Lorien forever be Lauren?

So I’m finally expecting my first baby in [name_u]March[/name_u] and while our boy names are set in stone we cannot agree on solid girl names. I figured I’d start looking and narrowing it down just in case it’s a girl!

I’ve liked the name Lorien for quite a while but I’m afraid she will always mistakenly get called [name_f]Lauren[/name_f] (which I’m not a huge fan of). While I’d be okay if it happened occasionally (because if we’re being honest people get even the most common of names wrong occasionally) I would hate if it happened 99% of the time she was called by name. What do you ladies think? Would this be a constant issue or am I over thinking it?

Yes, I think Lorien would always end up being [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]. My name is close to Floriane and [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and that’s how people call me sometimes, until I correct them.

However I have a friend named [name_f]Laurianne[/name_f] (which is the original spelling of the name), and she has no issues with her name.

Overthinking it!
Lorien is so pretty, and she could go by Lo or Lor if she wanted it shortened.

They are similar, yes, but one correction will be all it takes to right a wrong pronounciation.

I’m [name_f]Joanna[/name_f] and always get [name_f]Joanne[/name_f] - annoying? So frigging annoying, but I wouldn’t change my name for anything and I think you have a healthy perspective that even common names get butchered now and then.

I think Lorien would often get [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], but it depends on how much you think it would annoy you and her. My name is [name_f]Janine[/name_f] and people often call me [name_f]Jeanette[/name_f], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], various other J names. It doesn’t bother me.

Thank you for the opinions! I’d love to hear more

On paper, no. Saying it out loud quickly, it does run into [name_f]Lauren[/name_f].

I agree that it really depends on how much it would bother you to frequently correct people, or if you met someone who just really couldn’t remember to say it correctly — this happens a lot! You’ll end up with something you say every time if people seem confused (“Lorien… kind of like [name_m]Damien[/name_m]” or whatever). And there are lots of times it’s awkward to correct people, like when the nurse is calling your kid’s name into the waiting room, or when an older relative is introducing the baby to family friends. So if you’re not positive you can tolerate the occasional “[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]” without grinding your teeth, it could be difficult.

When I first read it, I pronounced it as [name_m]Law[/name_m]-reen. Is that how you pronounce it?
I didn’t even think of it sounding like [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]. The “i” in there just doesn’t seem like anyone (maybe few) would pronounce it as [name_f]Lauren[/name_f].

Lorien is pronounced Lor-ee-in.
