I’m not pregnant, nor expecting, but I had a question. Would it be weird to have two long names and one short? For example, if I had two daughters [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], would it be ok to name my next daughter something like [name_f]Kira[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]? I was just wondering about this and would like to know if any berries had opinions. Thanks!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there!
It seems like length isn’t so much the overall issue as simplicity or mood. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] are decorative, flowery and frilly names, while [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is extremely simple and conservative. [name_f]Emma[/name_f] doesn’t go with either name. That said, a 4-letter name would work… [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Maud[/name_f] work well, or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. This is because [name_f]Maud[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] are bolder than [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see the difference?
With [name_f]Kira[/name_f], only the spelling [name_f]Keira[/name_f]/[name_f]Kiera[/name_f] would work, because of length. I love the names [name_f]Keira[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] together as sisters. They are both more modern sounding that [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], which is a vintage name. [name_m]Even[/name_m] so [name_f]Keira[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] work well enough, so I think 3 siblings with the names [name_f]Keira[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] would be lovely. But the “[name_f]Kira[/name_f]” spelling looks abrupt and not as classic or substantial in this context.
I think it’s totally fine, every kid is unique. But If it bothers you, you could name the third child something that shortens to the name you want, for exemple; [name_f]Emanuelle[/name_f] = [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_f]Teresa[/name_f] = [name_f]Tess[/name_f].
It seems perfectly fine to me. [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] all give me a vintage vibe. I feel like [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], and [name_f]Kira[/name_f] is the more quirky of the two sibsets. Overall, not a big deal, so long as you like all the names! No point in settling for a longer name that you don’t really love just to fit a naming pattern most people won’t even notice.
I think people make sibling matching much more important than it is. If you really love a name, I don’t think it has to “go” with the siblings’ names. Unless it’s confusingly mismatched- like if you’ve got kids named [name_m]Antonio[/name_m], [name_f]Valeria[/name_f], and [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] or something- I really don’t think it’s a big deal. Most people who know me don’t know my siblings names unless we are fairly close, and they certainly don’t care if our names sound good together.
Agreed! Plus, some names look long but sound short (like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]!), so I think something like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] would be fine. I could easily see [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] and [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] as sisters, so I don’t see why [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Kira[/name_f] couldn’t be [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] AND [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]'s sister?
Good luck!
