Would this bother you?

Edited for privacy

Regarding sound with last name and popularity, I would have to say that depends on what they are. But if you’ve decided both of those do not bother you then I’d say those issues are fine!

Regarding the character name, I guess that depends on how popular the film was and if the response, “oh, like (First Last) from (Movie title)!” will bother you. If that doesn’t bother you then you should go for it!

Thank you, @flowermae for the response. I have no idea how popular the film is, but I get the sense that most people wouldn’t remember the character’s first and last name, especially with so many more recent associations with the first name? I wish I could just say what it is, because that would really help.

I realize now that if I wanted to get more helpful responses while preserving privacy, I should have just posted a general thread about the film/name as a hypothetical without associating myself with it. Now I’ve learned, haha.

Since you have until [name_u]November[/name_u] I would definitely feel it out. Keep the name on the list and see how much certain things bother you as the time gets closer. I know that I had a favorite name and have changed my mind a few times. I’m due in 3 weeks and just yesterday I changed my mind about the name 3 times! Besides, if you end up having a girl, this is a non-issue

I think it would certainly give me pause! I mean, overcoming one issue, sure, yeah, but this name has taken three hits already. I would feel like the universe was giving me a sign or something, lol.

I think the same FN and LN thing gives me most pause–I was really uncomfortable when I realized one of my favorites (used with my current last name) was the same name as a character in a TV show from the 70s (I think? A couple decades ago, at least), and I was put off by that. Ultimately it was just a blip in my radar, but it certainly wouldn’t keep me from [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] anymore. Maybe poll a couple close friends/family members? You can be cryptic if you want–“Oh, hey, do you remember who ____ ____ is?”

Then again, if you can get over this, I feel like it would really be the one, because it’s overcome SO many obstacles!

ETA: Is there another [name_u]Berry[/name_u] you feel comfortable enough with to PM them to ask? I mean, I have a handful of Berries I message back and forth with, and I generally take my more personal questions to them, because I feel comfortable telling them what state I live in, what my surname is, etc., although I don’t share them on the public forums…

Regarding sound with last name and popularity: Sound with last name is important to me but if it really doesn’t bother you then that is a none issue. I just have a hard last name and some names run into our last name which bothers me. But if its like [name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_m]Evans[/name_m] that isn’t so bad (a girl name was all I could think of for an ex). When it comes to popularity I have found for me a love for the name stomps on popularity. One of our girl choices is in the Top 10 but Dh and I have loved it for so long I refuse to let that bother me and it is a contender for our [name_u]November[/name_u] baby if it is a girl.

In regards to the movie character unless the movie is super popular where someone would know it, I would not let that bother me at all. For example a gentleman I know named his daughters [name_u]Vivien[/name_u] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] specifically after the actresses. So I think you are fine all around!

In the end you have to be comfortable with the name. The good thing is you have time so you can test it out and see how you feel over the next few months. Or you can also wait until the baby is born if you are waiting to find out the gender and bring a hospital list. That is what Dh and I are doing since we want to meet him or her before choosing. Granted we are finding out the gender ahead of time so we can focus on one gender but we will still bring our list of 3 names with us. That might be a nice option for you!

I think if you love the name go with it!
I guess it would depend how popular the movie was but considering it was 20 years ago… it probably wouldn’t be the first thought for anybody.

I totally understand your want to preserve privacy! I just wish I could be more helpful without the full info! I think you just need to prepare for the responses you’ll possibly get and decide if you’re ok with those or not. Good luck!

It is the name of a character in a movie and not the actual actor? I would still use it, go for it.

Depends on the name. My personal favorite name was only ever popular in ancient Greece, so it’s hard to relate. But I do love a name of a current tv character in a very popular show–and I happen to share the surname. Of course, I love the character, as well as the show and the name, so, if it was my top pick…I’d go for it. In your case…if you didn’t remember the name, few others will either.

You obviously love the name enough that two mini-hurdles haven’t been able to keep you away from it - I don’t think this one should either. Good luck!

The “hiccup” that I would spend time pondering is how the first name sounds with the last name because that is forever and becomes who your child is. It depends on how good or bad it is. Someone I know named their child C@rter H@rt and while I can think of worse potential names, I wouldn’t do it because it isn’t all about me but about choosing the perfect name for my child.

No. [name_m]Even[/name_m] one of those three would cause me to take it off my list. All three make it unthinkable to.me.

I’m 99.9% sure I know which character and movie you’re referring to. I’ve seen said movie plenty of times and I never would have connected the name to the character unless you had mentioned it. In my opinion, it’s not a very “memorable” character nor is it such a distinct name that the connection would be inescapable. Believe me, it’s not like you’re naming him [name_u]Marty[/name_u] McFly or [name_m]Ferris[/name_m] [name_m]Bueller[/name_m]
