Would you of named yourself your name?

As we are all name nerds on here, if you were able to choose your birth name would you of chose that?
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. I don’t particularly like the flow but I love both my names.
[name_f]My[/name_f] first name [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is Greek, which doesn’t particularly reflect my heritage but I really like the name and it is my favourite spelling of Lydia/Lidia. [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] means beautiful one which I love - A bad meaning is definitely a no when I’m looking at names. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle name [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is english (which doesn’t reflect my welsh heritage but I grew up in [name_u]England[/name_u] so I guess so) [name_f]Grace[/name_f] means favor or blessing which I think suits my personality because I am such a people pleaser  In all realness, I couldn’t imagine myself without my name but I was supposed to be called [name_f]Faith[/name_f] which is an [name_f]English[/name_f] name meaning trust or devotion which are values I agree with. I would of like to be called [name_f]Faith[/name_f] but I really do love [name_f]Lydia[/name_f].

Personally, no, I wouldn’t have done.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first name is [name_f]Grace[/name_f], and since I’m not exactly graceful or a blessing, and since it sounds like a title when paired with my surname, I wouldn’t have gone with it. Oh - and popularity. I mean, it’s an alright name, I don’t hate it, but I’m just :person_shrugging: about it. [name_f]My[/name_f] middle is [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], which I do like better, but I don’t think I’m an ‘Eleanor-in-first-spot’ kinda person either; it’s too elegant, too regal, too powerful and I would have dreaded to be called [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]

I hate my first name, so I definitely wouldn’t have called myself that. I didn’t have a middle name, so after looking at a lot of my classmates’ names in third grade, I chose my mother’s name (spelling it the way she had when she was in high school), [name_f]Elayne[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] Hebrew name is [name_u]Michal[/name_u] and I’d have named myself [name_u]Michal[/name_u] [name_f]Elayne[/name_f].

fn: not otherwise but now that i’ve gotten used to using it i actually kinda love it and feel like it fits me perfectly!
mn: i have never been a ~huge~ fan of my middle name growing up as it’s an honor name and more on the boyish side, especially hearing all of my friends with their catherines and graces or whatever. i do actually feel like it flows with well with my first and last name, wouldn’t have chosen it for myself but it sounds (and looks, with my fn) good!

I wouldn’t have chosen it for myself, but now that I’ve had it, it’s fully a part of my identity, and I wouldn’t change it. When I was little I thought it was too girly and frilly for me. I would have picked something spunkier, like [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] or [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

I think I would have, yes. I love my names!

However, if I renamed myself today, I’d choose Belle Louisa. Not sure exactly what I’d do if I really had free reign!

This blows my mind to read! Grace, you are such a blessing it isn’t even up for debate! Perhaps it’s easy to forget in the fog that can be life… but to me, to us here… you are a big and bright and meaningful blessing.

I think while I kind of might like to go by something different now, I still would have kept my first name as it is. It’s still an important part of me.

As for my middle name, I would have chosen something different. I have my great grandma’s middle name, but I wish I had her first name as my middle name. I like it a lot more and would feel more connected to her name/her. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents didn’t choose it because it’s the same initial as my first, but I think it’d sound fine.

I really like my first and middle names as names, but realising as I grew up that they were both honour names for family members (one of whom had a very tragic life) made me feel like they didn’t really belong to me. As much as I like an honour, I’m determined to give my kids at least one name that’s entirely their own and not connected to other relatives. So maybe I would have given myself this name but with an extra middle that wasn’t taken from someone else.

No way! [name_f]My[/name_f] first name looks nice in writing and has a noble meaning, but when I hear it, for a split second I think it’s for someone else and it often gets mistaken for a boys’ name or a different name altogether. It’s Just*ne. I like my middle, [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. I wish I were called, [name_f]Frances[/name_f] or [name_u]Dillon[/name_u], or even what I was doing to be called, [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] (though I don’t see myself as these either). It kinda sucks being a name nerd when you don’t like your own name! :joy::sob::joy:

I definitely look like and seem like an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] so I probably would have chosen the same first name haha. my middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] which is the anglicised version of my great aunt and great grandmother’s first name [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]. I think I would have preferred [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] as it is slightly more unique!

Maybe, but it wouldn’t be my first choice. I like nickname opportunities with it, so probably something like [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] or [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] for the same?

Yes, bc I did name myself. Although I do sometimes wonder if it was the best name I could of come up with

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is fine, but I wouldn’t have chosen it for myself. I couldn’t imagine myself with any other name and have no desire to change it, but my name is not the first one I would use to describe myself, if that makes sense.
