Can’t believe it - my husband actually made a list of boy names! I picked up a random naming book at a thrift store yesterday and he actually flipped through it last night. Here’s what he came up with:
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Lawton[/name_m]
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m]
I like [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], but then I tend to like preppier names.
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m] will always, in my head, be said by [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] O’[name_f]Hara[/name_f] in her breathy voice. “Is that you, [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]?” There’s just no way around that for me.
[name_u]Dean[/name_u] is okay; it feels a little trendy, but I think it’s more popular here on Nameberry than amongst the masses! It is apparently the name of a main character in a rather popular sci-fi show, though; I have no idea if that troubles you.
I do not think [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] is too close to [name_m]Grant[/name_m], and I like it about as well as your other “ett” names. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] are pretty poplar on these boards, so someone will stand up for them shortly, I am sure! [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] gets extra points, though, for emotional attachment.
I really dislike [name_m]Lawton[/name_m]. It doesn’t strike me as preppy so much as someone trying a little too hard to be preppy.
I like [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] the best with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] all end in “t” but I don’t think they’re as bad as [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] because they have more than one syllable. You could always choose [name_u]Everett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] and get two for the price of one. [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] are too match (in front and back) and I don’t care for [name_m]Lawton[/name_m] or [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]. Anyway, give your husband a big kiss for going through a baby name book and making a list. All I’ve been hearing lately is “my husband vetoed all of my choices. He makes no suggestions of his own. Help! I’m desperate!”
you think [name_u]Dean[/name_u] is trendy? I haven’t heard it at all. On paper I think [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] make great brothers…[name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]?
Looks like it’s #260, which isn’t that high. I think it’s popular on Nameberry (more so than in the general population, which is actually a nice endorsement!), but in real life, I’ve only ever heard it used as a first name in conjunction with a tv show. That always tends to make me a touch nervous.
I do like the sound of [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u] as brothers!
[name_u]Everett[/name_u]- cute. if I had a son named everett, I’d probably end up calling him [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], though-- which is a win in my book.
[name_m]Rhett[/name_m]- like it.
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]- cute
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]- it’s very grown up and serious to me. But it has the same feel as [name_m]Clark[/name_m] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] (I guess 1950s names?)
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m]- I love this for some reason.
[name_m]Lawton[/name_m]- seems very southern to me. I must know someone with this name because I can’t figure out any other reason I’d say that.
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m]-meh. I much prefer [name_u]Everett[/name_u] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
I could call [name_u]Dean[/name_u] “[name_m]Dino[/name_m]” right? That would be pretty fun…
I have been googling [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and most everything I’m reading calls [name_u]Dean[/name_u] handsome, masculine, strong. [name_m]Grant[/name_m] has all of those characteristics.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]…
[name_m]Dino[/name_m], Deaner, [name_u]Dean[/name_u]-[name_m]Bean[/name_m]. Could be a fun little guy.
Another vote for [name_u]Dean[/name_u]–[name_u]Dean[/name_u] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] is such a great sounding brothers combo. And agreed with others that [name_m]Lawton[/name_m] is much too preppy/trying too hard. Good luck!
I second [name_u]Everett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]. You could also use nn [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] for [name_m]Garrett[/name_m], and that would help differentiate between [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_m]Garrett[/name_m] (they’d be [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m]).
[name_m]Lawson[/name_m] is better than [name_m]Lawton[/name_m] but may only be appropriate if there’s a lawyer in your family or a [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. Otherwise, as others have said, it feels a bit preppy.
I just texted [name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] to my hubs. Since both names are on his list, he can’t argue much right? Hehe. Feeling excited about this (let’s see if it lasts a few days, we are just slightly famous for going back and forth on things a gazillion times.)
With [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] I like - [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Dean[/name_u], [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m], [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Grant[/name_m] and [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] sound pretty similar, trying to decide if I feel too similar. I like that [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] is meaningful for you. Maybe [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] or [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m].
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], and [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] ([name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], and [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m])
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] ([name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u])
(I think I lean toward [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Thatcher[/name_m])
I think it would be really special to honor your sister [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_u]Dean[/name_u] would be my first choice for you, followed by [name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
DH responded, “[name_u]Dean[/name_u] was on my list? Are you sure??” lol so…apparently he’s not head over heels about it, but we discussed it tonight that it’s definitly a strong choice. I had been pushing [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] before and he wasn’t as keen on it, but then put it on his list last night because he saw it spelled [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] vs. the [name_m]Emmitt[/name_m] he thought it was spelled. I told him I’m slightly skeptical about having it as a first name and preferred it in the mn spot. He says he is just getting used to the idea of it as a 1st name. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well, they both stay on the list
I love the idea of [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] considering the emotional attachment. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_u]Dean[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]?
