[name_m]Both[/name_m] are lovely. However, I chose [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. My friend is [name_u]Wren[/name_u] so I’m a bit biased. To me, it isn’t unisex at all.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I think its a girl’s name.

I think [name_u]Ren[/name_u] could be an excellent nickname for a boy named:

[name_m]Reuben[/name_m]
[name_m]Renzo[/name_m]
[name_u]Regan[/name_u]
[name_u]Rene[/name_u]
Rendell
and my favourite [name_m]Renne[/name_m]

and for a girl

[name_u]Ren[/name_u] could be short for:

[name_f]Renata[/name_f]
[name_f]Renee[/name_f]

I would prefer the [name_u]Ren[/name_u] nn over [name_u]Wren[/name_u] as a stand alone name, although [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is pretty in a three name combo.

rollo

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is sweet. [name_u]Ren[/name_u] just makes me think of Stimpy (old cartoon). I can see [name_u]Ren[/name_u] as a boys nn for Renoir, [name_m]Renault[/name_m] or [name_u]Rene[/name_u], though.

Yes- to the [name_u]Ren[/name_u] & Stimpy cartoon. Definitely wouldn’t want my little girl’s name to be associated with that show

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] - like for a full name for girl.

[name_u]Ren[/name_u] - maybe as a nn for a boy.

I;m pretty much in the same place [name_m]Rollo[/name_m] is. [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is a nickname to me that can beused for plenty of boys names like [name_u]Laurence[/name_u]/[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] or any of the ones she said and for girls names. [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is unisex.
[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a stand alone name, not a nickname. I think it’s mostly a girls name but I know a boy who’s middle name is [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and I think it works fine because it;s a nature name.

I chose [name_u]Wren[/name_u] because if you want a stand alone name, this is it.

Agreed. They’re two separate things. [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a nature name in itself and [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is more of a nickname*.

As a nickname, [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is unisex to me and there are loads of names it could be used for. Ones not mentioned would include:

[name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Karen[/name_f]
[name_f]Maren[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]

[name_m]Lorenzo[/name_m]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]

As a [name_u]Ren[/name_u] (going almost exclusively by the nickname for nine years) I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had someone say ‘Oh like [name_u]Ren[/name_u] and Stimpy’. It’s seriously not a problem and they don’t even make the silly cartoon any more. It’s only people of our generation who seem remember it.

To answer the OP’s other question, no one pronounces it wrong when they see it written down. I do have to repeat it a few times when I first meet people though.

One thing that bugs me, is - for example - nicknaming a [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I don’t see the point in adding a silent letter to what would essentially be, in this scenario, a nickname. Since [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a standalone name in itself it doesn’t really need a longer name to back it up.

*Unless you’re talking about the [name_f]Asian[/name_f] name [name_u]Ren[/name_u].

Agreed. [name_u]Ren[/name_u] as a nn; [name_u]Wren[/name_u] as a full name.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a name; [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is a nn
The pronunciations seems pretty self-explanatory to me
Yes, it’s unisex. Nothing about it screams feminine nor masculine

I was about to type almost exactly this.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] feels slightly feminine to me, but I could see [name_u]Ren[/name_u] being a great nn for a guy.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a beautiful girls’ name while [name_u]Ren[/name_u] is a nn for boys.

Thank you everyone, very helpful.
