I’m loving the name [name_u]Wren[/name_u] at the moment (though I do feel it needs a very feminine 3-4 syllable middle name to ensure it is pretty as opposed to a little on the hippy side!! ) but people seem to have such strong reactions to the name that I’m really questioning my judgement!!
Also, I know this is an awful thing to say, but as a [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is a petite songbird and my daughter is tone deaf with puppy fat in her teenage years, am I setting her up as a target? Strange what you worry about isn’t it! Ha!
I don’t like it honestly. Aesthetically it’s beautiful and of course the songbird is a lovely namesake so in theory I like it. I just don’t find the sound to be all that pretty. It’s #807 in the US right now though so apparently other people do!
I think [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] is much nicer; it’s got a similar look and feel, but it’s not as delicate; [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] just feels balanced and even has a similar Earthy feeling (it’s the Welsh word for ‘‘white’’) that makes me think of the British countryside. You might also like [name_f]Lark[/name_f]? [name_f]Willow[/name_f]?
I like the bird connection and think it looks pretty on paper. The sound isn’t as nice. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband’s immediate response was, ‘like [name_u]Ren[/name_u] and Stimpy?’ [name_f]Lark[/name_f], [name_f]Sparrow[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] are great though.
I really like the name [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. I think it sounds down to earth but also has the nature meaning to balance it out. I agree it would be best with a girly middle name. Also, I don’t think most kids of teasing age would know that a wren is a “petite songbird,” probably that its a bird, but anyway I don’t think it would evoke teasing anymore than any other name.
I am not a fan of this name, sorry :/. I know it’s a pretty bird, but the sound is unappealing (and as pp mentioned, reminds me of [name_u]Ren[/name_u] and Stimpy).
I know a beautiful little girl named [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. Once it’s her name and the connection is made- people get over it. Use it if you love it! It’s probably more widely excepted in liberal areas.
I love [name_u]Wren[/name_u], but as a middle name. I like short, simple middle names, and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] fits this. I wouldn’t use it as a first name for many of the same reasons above.
Ultimately, though, use it as a first name if you love it!
@oliviasarah I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], and think it’s a great option. Good idea! I think it’s difficult to find a middle name for [name_f]Gwen[/name_f], though.
