I’m writing a story about a family dealing with the loss of their mother, who was the lynchpin of the family. The siblings will be mostly adults, with maybe one or two teenagers, and they will help their sweet father through his grief.

How many children should there be in the family?

I will probably have follow up questions about how many brothers vs sisters and what to name them later on.

Okay, so I think I’m going to do 5 kids. There will be a 2/3 split as far as sons vs daughters, not sure yet which will be 2 and which will be 3. Since this is NB, let’s do a naming style poll! What style of naming do you think, if this is modern day and the siblings are around 18-30?

  • down to earth, cozy names
  • biblical names
  • unusual, boho names
  • nature names
  • posh, elegant names

I need a middle name for a character named Bronte which of these names is your favorite? The character is a very bookwormish character (as well as her brother but a poll for him is coming soon) so all her names are inspired by famous authors. I really liked Charlotte but I couldn’t use it as one of the Bronte sisters was named Charlotte.

  • Bronte Harper
  • Bronte Louisa
  • Bronte Lucy
  • Bronte Jane
  • Bronte Austen
  • Bronte Margaret

In my new story idea (I know  ), I want the last scene to be the birth of the MC’s child, but I have trouble deciding on the other parent. (The story is going to focus on the teen years and then switch to ~30y, implying the teen part was a dream, but then the birth proves it wasn’t.)

I thought about making it the friend who had always been there but that feels sticky sweet, like no, you’re not going to marry the kid that kissed you in kindergarten.
I thought about making it someone unknown to the audience (because they hadn’t met yet at the time of the main plot), but then nobody will be invested in the relationship, nobody will care?
I thought about an in-between solution (someone who was in the back of the same class but not a friend), but I’m worried that has both downsides rather than both upsides of the other options.

  • the friend
  • the stranger
  • the background character
  • I’ll tell you who!

Which name combination is the best for an elf girl, living in a human world (not knowing she is an elf)?

Ara (pn. ah-rah, not ai-rah) has very light (almost white) blonde hair, pale skin and violet eyes. She is very generous, kind, animal and nature lover, confident, strong, very smart, perfectionist, loyal and a little bit clumsy. Ara is not very popular at school (sometimes she is bullied because of her looks or smarts), and is called ‘nerd’, but she has a small group of friends, she gets along with and truly cares for.

  • Ara Elisora
  • Ara Elinoe

I guess I have a soft spot for the types of friends-to-lovers relationships where there’s this moment of “wait, no, I can’t be with them, they’re my best friend, that would be weird” and then that switches to “omg I can’t live life without this person, this is what true love feels like.”

I love the names [name_u]Roux[/name_u] and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] for dogs, but if the owner’s name is [name_u]Lou[/name_u], I think it would get confusing for the reader.
