My husband are beginning to narrow down names and we both like (X)[name_m]Zander[/name_m] but absolutely cannot agree on how it should be spelled.
I like [name_m]Zander[/name_m], he likes [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. I feel that people will call him X-ander and he will constantly be correcting people. Also, I feel that if we were naming him [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], it would be more appropriate to have an X.
For all of you X people out there…make me a believer!
Is he going to be [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] nn X/[name_m]Zander[/name_m]?
Either way, I much prefer the [name_m]Xander[/name_m] spelling because it matches [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and I just prefer it generally. I don’t really think anyone would say X-ander, it doesn’t seem very intuitive. I could be wrong, but people can always be corrected. And I presume you’re basing this off people saying X-avier which is something that baffles me anyway.
I think the “X” spelling of [name_m]Xander[/name_m] looks better. [name_m]Both[/name_m] are trendy but [name_m]Zander[/name_m] “looks” like a phonetic spelling rather than a legitimate one. If we keep overworrying about mispronouncing names that begin with “X”, they would all turn into “Z” names and then we’d have no cool “X” names left.
I prefer [name_m]Xander[/name_m], both as a nn for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and on its own. [name_m]Zander[/name_m] seems unfinished to me somehow, while [name_m]Xander[/name_m] looks more like a full name. I don’t think you’d have a problem with pronunciation, maybe if you were using [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] (because of X-men!) but not with [name_m]Xander[/name_m].
[name_m]XANDER[/name_m]!!! I loooooooove the name [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. PLEASE use [name_m]Xander[/name_m]!!! [name_m]Zander[/name_m] looks like a tryndee misspelling (and I usually prefer alternative spellings).
Hmm…I really am not a fan of [name_m]Ryder[/name_m]. Sounds more like a word than a name. I’m all for word names when placed in the middle spot. [name_m]Xander[/name_m] is a great choice, though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any middle name ideas?
I think [name_m]Xander[/name_m] feels really unfinished and looks like there should be an "Ale’ in front of it. If I had to pick, it would be [name_m]Zander[/name_m], because x names just aren’t my cup of tea. I do like [name_m]Ryder[/name_m], though.
[name_m]Xander[/name_m] is trendy but I don’t know if it’s an new “it” name. I like it better than [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] for sure (too much like “ride her”). In the US in 2012, [name_m]Xander[/name_m] slipped to No# 216 (1,700 boys) and it’s consistently been the the 200’s since 2006. [name_m]Ryder[/name_m] just cracked the top 100 (3,781 boys) so it’s more trendy and increasing in popularity.
[name_m]Xander[/name_m]. It’s a shortened form of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], so I like the “X.” I have an irrational hatred for phonetic spellings, so [name_m]Zander[/name_m] makes me cringe. [name_m]Xander[/name_m] is far more substantial than [name_m]Ryder[/name_m].
[name_m]Zander[/name_m] looks like a made up, like people weren’t sure how to spell it so they just spelled it phonetically.
People can always find ways to mispronounce names, I don’t think that’s a good reason to not spell it in the most correct way. But then the idea of pronouncing [name_m]Xavier[/name_m] as ek-savier like in Xmen is silly to me as well, it’s zay-vee-uhr
I do like that you can get [name_m]Zane[/name_m] out of [name_m]Zander[/name_m] more easily though.
I prefer [name_m]Xander[/name_m] but this could be because my son has a friend named [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. I really like the name [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. Strong, spunky, and handsome.
Hmm… personally I think that the [name_m]Zander[/name_m] spelling would case less hassle. Like you said, it would avoid the corrections or misspellings. So, if you’re just going for Z/[name_m]Xander[/name_m], I would say Z. However, if you’re planning to use the long name [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], it would make more sense to use [name_m]Xander[/name_m]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] name by the way
So growing up I didn’t know anyone with a name that started with an x so I think I was about 15 before I realized that it wasn’t pronounced the same as the letter x. I 100% would go with [name_m]Zander[/name_m]. It is so much easier to pronounce and doesn’t look so harsh.
[name_m]Xander[/name_m], it’s a fairly well known name with only one pronunciation so it shouldn’t have many troubles with people saying it wrong and if you do, it’s an easy fix. [name_m]Xander[/name_m] is the original spelling which makes it seem much less trendy than [name_m]Zander[/name_m], and to me it seems more complete.
I much prefer [name_m]Xander[/name_m] or even [name_m]Zander[/name_m] to [name_m]Ryder[/name_m].
