Xanthe

What do you guys think of [name]Xanthe[/name]? I heard it for the first time today and immediately fell a little bit in love. What’s your gut pronunciation? The little girl I met pronounced it zan-THEE.

Unfortunately I don’t think most people will be able to pronounce it and if your daughter says her name, people won’t know how to spell it. What if you just used Zanthee?

I’ve heard Zanth as pronounciation

When I was about 10, it was always my play name when I played with friends. It holds a soft spot in my heart.

It’s pronounced “[name]Zan[/name]-THEE” I love this name. It’s on my long list.

The true Greek pronunciation is [name]ZAN[/name]-thee. In Greek, names with the E at the end ([name]Xanthe[/name], [name]Ianthe[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name]) are said with the E sound ([name]ZAN[/name]-thee, EEAN-thee, aree-AWD-nee)

I love it. There will probably be problems with pronunciation and spelling though. I do love it though!

I adore the name [name]Xanthe[/name] prn [name]Zan[/name]-thee.
As a ‘name’ lover I know this name, and have known it for years.
I have a [name]Xanthe[/name] in my class this year, the other teaching staff all looked the name with great puzzlement… Ex-anthe? Zanth?
They are intelligent people, but had never head of it.
I think on first meeting people from the general population would look at you like “[name]Say[/name] what?” when you say her name, they would have little idea of spelling it based on sounds or saying it based on the spelling.
BUT people soon adapt to new things. We have alot of culturally diverse names which we adapt to easily.
So if you love it use it, if the possibility of 'how wrong can people get it, and how much would it annoy my DD" bothers you then use it as a mn.
Overall… thumbs up for a gorgeous name.
I like Xylia too.
