Would it be weird/racist for me to name a boy [name_f]Xio[/name_f] as a white person? I’m not sure where the line is for using names outside of your culture. [name_m]The[/name_m] name I was born with is Jewish/Russian and I never had any problems with it (sometimes people have trouble pronouncing it but I really don’t mind?), but I’m sure its a case by case basis.

From what I know, [name_f]Xio[/name_f] is a feminine name (like short for [name_f]Xiomara[/name_f]) so might be a little weird for a boy? Or were you thinking [name_f]Xiao[/name_f] like the Chinese surname? How are you pronouncing it?

I wouldn’t recommend taking a name that’s distinctly from a culture you’re not connected to and genderbending it, it comes across as disrespectful. Is there a reason why you want to use the [name_f]Xio[/name_f] spelling specifically?

I also don’t know what culture this name is from. It reminds me of [name_f]Xiao[/name_f] so I’d guess it is Chinese?

[name_f]Xiao[/name_f] is a unisex first name/name component (and also a last name) in Chinese, but [name_f]Xio[/name_f] is not a sequence of letters that could exist as far as I’m aware, at least in Mandarin. So I also think this poster would be referring to the shortened form of [name_f]Xiomara[/name_f]?
If that’s the case, I think it kind of depends if you are directly picking this as a genderbent form of the Spanish name, or if you are more using [name_f]Xio[/name_f] as a modern invented name/spelling, that by coincidence is similar to a rare pre-existing name. Does that make any sense? 
I’m not the authority on this matter obviously.
