YAY! Scratching the naming process Surface!

Hi Berries!! [name_m]Long[/name_m] time reader, first time poster - so excited to finally be ready to start diving in to naming our own little one as we are on the journey of actively trying <3

Many of long loved names either aren’t my Hubs style (like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_u]Auden[/name_u], [name_u]Haven[/name_u]) or don’t quite feel right anymore (like [name_m]Crew[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_u]Ira[/name_u], [name_u]Adair[/name_u], [name_f]Tess[/name_f])
I tend to be a little all over the place style wise- but do like “familiar but not common” and names with meanings/inspirations behind them.

Here are the ones we do jointly like( last name is pronounced B-Real)

Boys: (middle name would probably be a family name : [name_m]David[/name_m]/Allen/Ray/Anthony)

-[name_u]Taj[/name_u]
-[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
-[name_u]Bailey[/name_u]
-[name_u]Porter[/name_u]
-[name_m]Knox[/name_m]

  • Otto

Our girls name list is much weaker! (Middle name would be [name_u]Kay[/name_u]- it’s old family tradition from my Mom’s side always has the middle name [name_u]Kay[/name_u] <3)
Girl :

  • Rosemary “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]”
  • Drew
  • Neve
  • Senna
  • Bella
  • Lane
  • Imogene

would love to hear your thoughts on first impressions/opinions of the above names and any additions or inspirations of like names to add to our lists/discussions - thank you!!! this is so fun

I love [name_m]Knox[/name_m], [name_u]Lane[/name_u], and [name_u]Kay[/name_u]. I think I would use [name_u]Laney[/name_u] [name_u]Kay[/name_u], though, to avoid two one-syllable names.

Elaine [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_u]Lane[/name_u]
[name_f]Elaina[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u], [name_u]Lane[/name_u]
[name_m]Dawson[/name_m] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]
[name_m]Layton[/name_m] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]

Duncan and [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] are two of my favorites! [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] feel like vintage small town Scottish siblings.

Hi there.

Here are my thoughts on your list-

Boys:

Damien-I’ve never even seen that movie, & I still can’t shake the [name_f]Pet[/name_f] Cemetery association.

Shaw-This is beautiful. I rarely see it on these boards, & I really like it. It’s handsome & masculine, but soft & has a nature-y feel. It’s simple but totally unique.

Taj-I don’t know. It’s okay…I think that [name_u]Taj[/name_u] Mahal isn’t a bad association, but it’s a strong association.

Duncan-It’s kind of cute, but just a little too cute somehow. Almost too quirky.

Bailey-I personally like the sound & vibe of this, but it’s way too used for girls unfortunately.

Porter-This isn’t great or bad. It’s just kind of okay for me.

Knox-I like this. It’s kind of posh, but not in a snobby way. It’s just sort of sleek & smart, but sporty & friendly too.

Otto-Oh, I don’t know. It reminds me of the bus driver in The Simpsons. That may be a dated association. It’s kind of fun, I guess.

Girls:

Rosemary ‘[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]’-I adore [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. It’s hard to say w/out a smile. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] is my least favorite ‘[name_f]Rose[/name_f]’ name. It’s also associated w/a creepy movie that I’ve never seen. It’s probably not a big deal.

Drew-Meh, I don’t care for this. It’s popular for boys, & pretty boyish in my opinion.

Neve-I really like the sound of this. It’s sleek & almost a bit pixie-ish. I’d stick w/the authentic spelling of [name_f]Niamh[/name_f] though. It’s worth it for a few corrections here & there to have it spelled this way, I think.

Senna-I’m really starting to like this. Seen it on a few lists lately. It’s sleek & smart. Simple, unique, feminine but far from frilly.

Bella-I quite like this. It sounds vintage & charming to me. It is really popular though. Mainly [name_f]Isabella[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bella[/name_f].

Lane-Meh, I kind of like this for a boy.

Imogene-Well, I don’t know. I like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] said Im-oh-gin. . Is this ‘gene’? That’s not a elegant for some reason.

Thank you @tori101 ! I love your suggestion of [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], it’s such a handsome full name and the nickname of “[name_u]Dash[/name_u]” is great.

Ooooh I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Romy[/name_u], as an alternative nickname for [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]!

@pamjsg991 Thank you!!! you hit on one of my all time favorite yet unusable for us names : [name_u]Leighton[/name_u]! it’s near perfection to me but shared with an longtime friend of my husband. I really like [name_m]Dex[/name_m]! i wonder if [name_u]Dexter[/name_u] evokes a less “murdery” image by now…

@Paxramena that made me smile  thank you!

@MichelleM I so appreciate and enjoyed your honest feedback; thank you for taking the time!!!
-Boys: [name_u]Shaw[/name_u] has been a name I’ve loved but wondered on reception…so your comments were so reassuring, that is the image it gives to me as well, strong ands sure but lovely, soft. it’s back in the top 3! Sigh on [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]; i think the same problem persists with my other boy/girl love, [name_u]Madison[/name_u].
-Girls : YAY for [name_u]Senna[/name_u]!! similar to [name_u]Shaw[/name_u], has been a name I have been curious to reception. And [name_f]Imogene[/name_f], was my attempt at making that into an honor name for my Grandpa [name_u]Gene[/name_u], but agree on the elegance.
Your suggestions : LOVE [name_u]Holden[/name_u], [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], [name_u]Noel[/name_u], [name_u]Rafe[/name_u] ( this one is new to me!) and [name_u]Shea[/name_u] for boys and [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f] and [name_u]Skye[/name_u] are now on the top of our girls list - thank you
