@elanorelle thank you lovely I just want to avoid trendy names really there’s a massive difference in my eyes in [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] skyrocketing and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] skyrocketing [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] could look trendy it has a potential trendy vibe!

Same here!

This is how I feel about [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

My top boys’ name is [name_u]James[/name_u] which is currently #6 and has pretty much always been top twenty…I don’t think it’s ever been #1 at least not in the US but if it was I think I would still use it. Popularity isn’t a big concern for me. [name_f]My[/name_f] girls’ names are mostly also pretty familiar but less common, but I think I would still use them as well in a hypothetical. I might be a bit irritated they got that high, but it wouldn’t stop them. I also do think there’s a difference between a name skyrocketing out of nowhere and coming off as trendy versus a name being a popular classic. A lot of my favorites are traditional classics, so they’re popular, so I accept that.

If [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_f]Acadia[/name_f], [name_f]Naida[/name_f], or [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] became #1 I’d still use the first three on account of them being honor names. But it would bother me very much.

Probably not, it would feel a little selfish to me. I feel kids lose a lot of their identity in classes where they have to be ā€œ[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] Mā€ or ā€œ[name_f]Emma[/name_f] Pā€. A lot of the time when someone mentions an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Emma[/name_f] I can’t assign the name to a face. Names that have strong nicknames would probably be fine for me though!

Names are popular for a reason — They’re good, strong, ageable names that work wonderfully on both kids & adults.

And if you’re really that worried, even the #1 most popular name is only given to a handful of kids each year.

I would still use my favorite name. I have a super popular name (actually a nickname that several names feed into) and was one of those kids that occasionally needed a last initial to differentiate but it never bothered me or made me feel less unique. Actually one of my long time best friends has the same name as me! Honestly the number one name in the US now is on fewer kids than my name was at the time so… I’m hoping they could get over it lol.

Popularity doesn’t bother me, so I’d use it  [name_m]Can[/name_m]’t say I can see [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] skyrocketing though :joy:

I would probably still use it. It’s been my favourite name since I was a teenager and I think I would regret not using it. Plus, fewer babies receive popular names nowadays because there is a greater variety of names to choose from.

I’d still use it. All the first names in my UC are already in the US top 200, and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_u]Noah[/name_u] are both in the top 10. I haven’t checked UK statistics recently but I’m sure most of them are top 100.

No. The shine would be gone.

No, I wouldn’t use it. [name_f]My[/name_f] #1 name is already pretty popular, but the top of the charts is a little too much for me. I have a good backup combo though.

This! If anything, I’d be glad that I’m not the only one who likes the name.

This is actually very reassuring to me too! :joy:

This is a really hard question. I really do hope that my favourite names don’t even enter the top 500! So number 1 would be a huge blow. If I did use the name a part of me would regret it but if I didn’t use the name another part of me would regret it. So whatever I do I will regret my decision. Actually I think I would use the name as a middle name. Yes thats what I’ll do!

I’d probably still use it. Most of the names I like (especially the ones I’d actually use) have been relatively common for decades.

If one of my favorites that is currently (and has always been) uncommon was suddenly #1, I’d probably scrap it.

Basically [name_m]John[/name_m] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] stay but [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] goes.

I’ve known a ton of [name_f]Emily[/name_f]’s my age and younger (I’m a teen). It’s gone down a little bit but I think this is gonna one of those few names that will always be popular, almost even turning into a classic.

As for the question, I would be HEARTBROKEN. Like if my #1 boy name [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] suddenly shot up to #10 in the charts I would be so so sad, and I don’t think I would use it anymore. I think part of its appeal is the fact that it’s more unusual and if everybody suddenly had a kid named [name_m]Osiris[/name_m], it wouldn’t be as appealing or special to me. Doesn’t apply for more classic names though, if one of my top names, [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], suddenly was at #30 I’d be more willing because it’s a vintage name and the name of my great grandmother. I think if it’s been in the top 500 consistently for decades it’s easier to use it for me because it’s been at least somewhat popular for a long time, but if it was off the charts for years and years the same thing for [name_m]Osiris[/name_m] would apply.

No, I would go with my second favorite which I love almost as much.

If my favorite name was classic or popular to begin with, I would consider it, but I don’t like the idea of using a flash-in-the-pan name.
