What is your opinion on the name [name_f]Amaya[/name_f]?
Gorgeous! [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
It’s a nice name.
I know an [name_f]Amiya[/name_f] (pronounced uh-my-uh) and no one ever pronounces her name right. [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] might do better because of the [name_f]Indian[/name_f] Fast food chain called [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] (pronounced the same way as [name_f]Amiya[/name_f]). My only concern would be pronunciation. I think it’s nice though, and very unique!
I slightly prefer the [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] spelling and while I like the name, I think it feels less unusual considering the popularity of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and company. Her sounds appear ordinary and on trend, and it sort of diminishes her actual striking, unusual aura.
Are you familiar with [name_f]Aminta[/name_f]? Its just a couple of letters different, but is a lot more unusual. I also think it goes better with [name_f]Florina[/name_f], having a more European vibe.
I love it, but I tend to naturally say the ah-may-uh prn. rather than ah-my-uh.
I’ve actually know a couple of Amayas. It’s a pretty name but I do think the [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] spelling might make the pronunciation clearer.
Thanks guys,
We’ll think about the [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] spelling
I prefer the spelling [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] but I really like [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] too.
It’s a pretty name and I don’t think the pronunciation is an issue. Uh-My-uh. If [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (as in [name_f]Angelou[/name_f]) is pronounced such, why would this change by adding an “A”? I think [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] looks weird. Too many vowels.
[name_f]Amaya[/name_f]. Pretty.
I think [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] is pretty and feminine and would be a lovely addition to a family with an older sister called [name_f]Florina[/name_f]. [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] and [name_f]Florina[/name_f] have a nice ring to them, don’t you think?
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], so beautiful!
I like [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] a lot! More than just [name_f]Maya[/name_f], personally. But I like [name_f]Alaia[/name_f] and [name_f]Adaya[/name_f] even more. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], though, and I think it’s a beautiful name. It sounds very lilting. It reminds me of Spain, too, because I’ve always heard it was a Basque name. Very airy, almost like the breeze on a tropical beach. I remember when I was in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u], the group I was with climbed this huge sand dune just off the beach (it was huge! More like sand mountains than a sand dune. :)), and we just sat on top and watched the sun set over the ocean. It was absolutely beautiful. When I think of [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], I sort of think of the view from there. Absolutely breathtaking and airy and free.
I really like [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], but I prefer the sound of [name_f]Amira[/name_f], so I just want to throw that out there!
I love [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], and [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] even more. I hope it doesn’t get lumped with all of the “frilly A names” that are popular when taken as a whole: [name_f]Ayana[/name_f] and [name_f]Aliya[/name_f] and [name_f]Aryana[/name_f] and such, because [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] is a lot more solid to me. I agree that [name_f]Amira[/name_f] feels similar, as do [name_f]Amina[/name_f] and [name_f]Amara[/name_f].
[name_f]Amaia[/name_f] is a very Basque name, super popular in the Basque Country it was the most common girl’s name in the 4 grades I taught there. It really is lovely! I, too, prefer [name_f]Amaia[/name_f]. You do see [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] in Castillian-speaking Spain, though, and it’s nice as well.
I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Amaya[/name_f] since I hear it a lot near me. It’s rather trendy in my area. Ditto with [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. It is alright I guess, and I see the appeal, but I’m not a fan.
