And the nicknames [name_f]Babs[/name_f] and [name_f]Barbie[/name_f]?
I donāt really like it.
[name_f]Barbara[/name_f] remind me of the character from Batman & [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] couldnāt be used where I live thanks to the doll but [name_f]Babs[/name_f] is cute.
I think itās cute, but Iām personally not a big fan of either nn
I think youād definitely be ahead of the curve bringing it back. It has that peppy āB,ā itās easily recognizable, but sheāll be the only [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] in her class. I think the nickname [name_f]Bobbi[/name_f] for [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] would be cute! For me [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] is really tied to the doll
Iām not too fond of it, unfortunately. It just strikes me as really dated, and it doesnāt have any modern nicknames to help with that. Babs also feels middle-aged to me and Barbie too tied to the doll.
I like [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]! [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] is a no-go, but [name_f]Babs[/name_f] is sooo cute.
Really prefer [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] for a throwback B name. Itās a good choice if you want your kid to have a stand out name for their age. Actually [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] is really cute! I could see it being used despite the doll. [name_f]Barb[/name_f] is an obvious nickname.
I really donāt like it, either. The only Barbaras Iāve ever come across were over 65 and I donāt think it is going to make a comeback.
Iām not fond of it - to me it has an unappealingly chunky sound. (Not to say that all chunky sounds are unappealing, but to me, this one is.) I see how [name_f]Babs[/name_f] could be a cute nickname, but [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] is tied really closely to the doll to me.
Itās definitely not my favourite but still a perfectly lovely name that does deserve a comeback imo. Iām personally not a fan of [name_f]Babs[/name_f] or [name_f]Barbie[/name_f], but I like the suggestion of [name_f]Bobbi[/name_f] / [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u].
I find it a bit clunky
I love [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]!
I also still find it too dusty/dated for my personal taste, but I agree youād be ahead of the curve reviving it!
[name_f]Babs[/name_f] is quite sweet, if a bit Chicken Run, but I think [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] will always be too tied to the doll and the stereotypes associated with it. [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u] and [name_f]Bee[/name_f] are sweet suggestions! I think you could do [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] too.
British comedians [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_u]Coren[/name_u] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] have a young [name_f]Barbara[/name_f], probably around 5 or 6 now, and although I was surprised when I first heard it, that kind of uber-vintage name is very much in fashion especially here in the UK right now. I can think of other British celebrities with daughters called things like [name_f]Ethel[/name_f], [name_f]Doris[/name_f], [name_f]Patricia[/name_f], etc. Very cool in the right family!
Grew up with one but I think was old on her and it sounds old to me in general (Iām 25). One of my youngest aunts is also named this (early 50s, if that) and I think it even sounds old on her.
I donāt think the nicknames do it any favors. I would rather go by [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] or [name_f]Barb[/name_f] than [name_f]Babs[/name_f] (almost sounds mocking to me) or [name_f]Barbie[/name_f] (like the doll, and I find [name_f]Barb[/name_f] sufficient).
Sorry, I donāt like it. I still think of a 65 year old woman (not exactly a nice one, even though the one I know is nice!), and, whatās more, it sounds harsh to me.
I like it! Well, I really really dislike the bar-bra prn. and much prefer bar-ba-ra, with rolled rās. Itās not an old lady name at all where I live (Croatia), and I actually know 3 Barbaraās, one is 22, one is 20, and one is 18/19, and there is a famous TV presenter here with that name. Babbling aside, itās a beautiful gem of a name that definitely deserves more appreaciation. I like the nickname [name_f]Bebe[/name_f]! [name_f]Barbi[/name_f] is the default nickname here and while it does bring the doll imagery to mind, itās easy to look past it.
I know a [name_f]Barbara[/name_f] in her 30ās and sheās one of the sweetest most beautiful girls I know.
I donāt like it muchā¦ sounds a bit frumpy.
I think youād be ahead of the trend in reviving it, as right now it does feel a tad dated. But [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], or [name_u]Bobbie[/name_u] would make great nicknames for a more modern [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]. [name_f]Babs[/name_f] is sweet, but it does feel a bit old.
I like the suggestion of [name_u]Beverly[/name_u] though, which does feel a bit closer to revival than [name_f]Barbara[/name_f]!
