Recently I’ve been rediscovering my affection for the name [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. I think it’s a classic, extremely wearable name in the same vein as [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], etc. Therefore I just sort of assumed that it would be in the top 100 where I live, and was surprised to find that it wasn’t. This got me wondering what other people thought of the name. Does it seem dated to some?
Also, does anybody have any nicknames suggestions for [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], other than [name_u]Andy[/name_u] & [name_u]Drew[/name_u]?
It’s my husband’s name. I love the name. Classic and strong. You would never have a problem with the name [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. My husband doesn’t go by anything, just [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] but I kind of love [name_u]Drew[/name_u] but just never have called him that. I heard of one person recently name their son [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and it seemed a bit odd at first b/c no one uses names like [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] for babies anymore, but I think that’s what’s great. It won’t be common with little boys right now but yet still such a strong, classic name. Def can’t go wrong with [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] in my opinion!
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is a wonderful, classic name that isn’t over-used. I have a good friend named [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], and another friend’s 8 year old son has the name as well. Neither use a nick name (well, the 8 year old is Monkey, but that has nothing to do with his actual name, ha ha).
When it comes to classics I tend to extreme reactions - I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. I despise [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], [name_m]Peter[/name_m], and [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] suffers partly because I don’t really like [name_u]Andy[/name_u] or [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. [name_u]Andy[/name_u] and [name_m]Tim[/name_m] both sound terminally wimpy to me. I don’t hate [name_u]Drew[/name_u] as much, but it isn’t what I’d call a draw, especially since I like many other D names more. And [name_u]Drew[/name_u] doesn’t stand alone… and… well… I hate [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. Sorry.
I don’t dispute that it’s fairly classic though. I just don’t like every single classic name. Actually, I’d say [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is MORE classic than [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m].
I love the name [name_m]Andrew[/name_m], it fits that sweet spot of fitting in and standing out! I dislike the nicknames (if i had to choose one I’d choose [name_u]Drew[/name_u]), i prefer Andrews to be called [name_m]Andrew[/name_m].
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]! A gorgeous classic. I would use the full name [name_m]Andrew[/name_m]. I do love [name_u]Drew[/name_u] as well, but feel like it is it’s own name.
I’m wondering the same.
[name_f]My[/name_f] husbands grandfather was Andrija.
And all the boys born into the family are andrew or have it as a middle name andrew/andrija.
I prefer drew but my husband wont budge on ANDY.
I should add, he was born into this family as [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] as his first name. He was adopted out and his name changed. Now he is back to his natural family so he feels that strong connection name wise.
I like older names like oscar. As our daughter is rosie…
But I’m unsure if [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] is ok for a baby these days. It’s a kind of in between the times name like [name_f]Lynne[/name_f] or karen. Not old fashioned enough to be trendy and not modern enough to be cool lol I dont know…
I really want to love it but don’t have the best associations with it in real life or from television lol. However I do have okay associations with [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. [name_u]Andy[/name_u] just seems too little kiddish for me. I prefer [name_m]Anders[/name_m] or [name_u]Anderson[/name_u] but wouldn’t want the nn [name_u]Andy[/name_u]. [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] i just dont know - the associations hold me back but its not a bad sounding name.
