Your thoughts on Colm?

Fit for use in US? Like? Dislike? NN’s? MN’s? [name_m]General[/name_m] impressions or associations? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it if you saw it in print?

Thanks for your help!

[name_m]Guy[/name_m] in my high school was named [name_m]Colm[/name_m]. People generally thought it was strange at first and then they would warm up to his name. I only associate it with this boy as I grew up with him. It was pronounced kinda like ‘comb’ but not quite it still had the ‘l’ sound in there but generally people pronounced it right.

I’ve never heard it before. I think it would work in the US. I would probably go with it for a middle name, maybe as a first… I kind of like it. It wouldn’t be my first choice.
[name_u]James[/name_u] [name_m]Colm[/name_m] nn [name_m]Cole[/name_m] I would pronounce it like comb.

I’m not fan of it. If I didn’t check Behindthename, I would have just thought it was a nickname for [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m]. I would pronounce it similar to how gjsg described it.

[name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]COLM[/name_m]!!! Its on my list. Too bad it really doesn’t fit in with any of the other names we like, or else I would use it in a heartbeat.

This is the name of one of my favourite Broadway stars! [name_m]Colm[/name_m] [name_m]Wilkinson[/name_m]. He was best known for playing in [name_u]Les[/name_u] Mis and Phantom of the [name_f]Opera[/name_f]. That being said, I find that it is a bit dated and doesn’t roll off the tongue all that well. I pronounce it the same as above, comb with a l. Maybe as a middle? Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

i am not a fan.

I find it a bit awkward to say. I prefer other similar names like [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m].

NOTE: I just read that pronunciation is 2 syllables, like [name_m]Colin[/name_m] but with an M. That changes things! I always tried to say it more like the word comb but with an L in there. I still prefer [name_m]Callum[/name_m] though.
