Your thoughts on Feriel/Fariel?

I heard the name Feriel/Fariel (Fair-ee-uhl) recently on a teenage girl and I thought it was absolutely beautiful. [name_m]Reading[/name_m] up on it, it’s also commonly used on boys, and it’s a Persian name meaning “star”. Information could be incorrect as it’s from the internet, but I think you berries are a more reliable source, so correct me if I’m wrong!

I just want to know what you think of this name on a girl? And which spelling do you like, Feriel or Fariel?

NMS, but I like the meaning. I think I prefer the look of Fariel, especially for a girl. Maybe it just looks more feminine to me because it has the name [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] in it, which I associate with “The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid”? LOL!

It looks like ‘feral’ to me, and sounds like ‘Fair [name_f]Isle[/name_f]’ (like the place, and also the style of knitwear).

It does have an exotic-royalty feel that I like, and the meaning is lovely. Maybe I’d like it more if I met one.

It sort of puts to mind something from a Tolkien novel to me, haha! I think I sort of did associate it with feral, or even feline. It also sort of comes across as [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] with an “F” slapped on front, which doesn’t particularly earn it any brownie points from me. I do think it’s interesting, and I do think I prefer Fariel (looks less like feral to me!), but I’m not sure about it in actuality. I’m not sure how well it’d work in real life.

My first thought was also feral like feral cats. But when I heard how it was pronounced I liked it better. Still don’t love it though.

It’s kind of pretty, but my first thought was feral. I prefer the Feriel spelling, as it looks more like an actual name as opposed to someone just took [name_u]Ariel[/name_u] and slapped an ‘F’ on.

Another vote that it looks like feral.

It sounds and looks like “feral.”

Another person who think about Tolkien’s elf here. No, there is no one with this name in the story, but I can easily imagine Fariel fits there.
I like the meaning. I never heard of it before but I think it sounds lovely.

I second this.

Too close to ‘feral’ for me, but I do like the meaning.

It actually reminds me of fairy.
Like an attempt to make the word fairy a name. I sort of like it.

It reminds me of the word feral, so I don’t like it.

I’d probably pronounce them differently. Feriel = fairy-el and Fariel = Far (rhymes with car)-ee-el

I think the first sounds feminine, the second masculine. I like it. It feels so familiar to me. I’m wondering if I’ve read it in a book or something. Or perhaps used it in a story of my own? Anyway, it’s quite pretty.

It sounds like a character out of [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings, and it also sounds too much like ‘Feral’ to me :frowning:

Feriell was on my name list about 13 years ago when my daughter was born but couldn’t convince my hubby at the time…I heard the name from a friend who was from [name_m]Amsterdam[/name_m]. I think it’s a pretty name and unique. My daughter thinks it’s a silly name and brings up once awhile that she’s glad I didn’t name her that. I still love it regardless

I like the spelling Farial…

It also reminds me of Feria, which is a legitimate word in it’s own right, but one that I cannot separate from the hair dye.

It doesn’t look nice on paper, reminds me of ‘feral’ , the pronunciation is better, reminds me of [name_u]Ariel[/name_u].

I love it! I love the “angel” names (the ones that end in -el or -iel), and I’m a huge sucker for F names. And the meaning is beautiful! Like [name_f]Fey[/name_f], I would be inclined to pronounced them FAIR-ee-ehl (Feriel) and FAHR-ee-ehl or fahr-ee-EHL (Fariel). I love the light, airy, liquid sound and the similarity to “fairy.” This one is going on my GP list for sure!
