What are your thoughts on the name [name]Imogen[/name]? [name]Do[/name] you think it’s pretty? Quirky? Plain? Dreadful? What type of person do you picture with this name? Can it fit a baby, child, teen, adult, grandma etc.? Is it accessible in the US or will I get constant mispronunciations and, “huh?” responses?
I personally think it’s an awful name - and I know a lot of people on here will disagree with me. It doesn’t sound like a “real” name to me when I say it aloud… Imma-gin? [name]Emma[/name] [name]Jen[/name]? [name]Imagine[/name]? I always feel like I’m mispronouncing something else. I personally don’t get the “quirky” appeal.
I think its unattractive sounding, I know its a nameberry favorite but it sounds like “imagine” mispronounced, medication or rock (I dont know why I think it could be a rock!), I picture a plain pug nosed frumpy bland girl. I think [name]Imogene[/name] sounds much better and I dont know why it isnt more popular on the site among the [name]Imogen[/name] fans.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but thats my opinion.
I think it’s nice in a quirky, unusual way. Definitely vintage sounding, and it’s not [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Isla[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], or [name]Evelyn[/name], which is a relief. It’s not impossible to spell or pronounce, although on first seeing it most people may stumble the first time around. If you’re going to go for an usual name, this is a great one.
[name]Imogen[/name] is lovely and the [name]Imogene[/name] pronunciation drives me absolutely NUTS!
[name]Imogen[/name] is as British as can be, it is now becoming a well loved favourite around the world. It is quirky, it isn’t too frilly, it is distinctive and it is classy.
Out of ten it gets a ten from me.
rollo
I hate it. It is awful and just sounds awkward.
I have come to really like it and think maybe it’s the spelling that makes it so off-putting (there’s something about those I names!). I do favor the [name]Imo[/name]-gene pronunciation because I think it makes it sound more feminine.
I hate it ! Its really really awful…
I can’t stand it, I totally miss the appeal that nameberries see in it. It reminds me of injun, or emma jen…
Honestly, I think it sounds like a medicine of some sort (like, I feel awful, I’m going to take some [name]Imogen[/name])…sorry…
I actually really like it. I’ve only ever known one [name]Imogen[/name] my whole life, and she was a tall slender red-head (we were both teens when we met), with the most gorgeous red hair I’ve ever seen. [name]Long[/name], thick chunky curls, and perfect skin. On top of that, she was an annoyingly good soccer player (our teams played each other often). When I hear that name, that’s all I can picture! To me it sounds sort of vintage-y and quirky classic.
I’m surprised by all the people who say they don’t like it, because on this site especially, it seems to be a favourite. I’m not a fan of [name]Imogen[/name]. I just don’t get the appeal. I understand how to pronounce it and all that, and it has a lovely meaning, I just don’t like how it sounds.
I don’t get what’s so amazing about this name? I really don’t like it. Does seem like a beautiful name and wouldn’t consider naming a future daughter [name]Imogen[/name]
Its definitely usable in the U.S. I think it is a lovely name, strong yet feminine.
I really like it. I like the simple -gen ending, the classical quality, the Shakespearan thing is a bonus.
My sister prefers [name]Imogene[/name], but I don’t find the -jeeen sound very enticing. I did play around with [name]Imogenia[/name], but I can’t figure out how to keep it from being like a cupcake with too much icing. I like girls’ names that are unmistakably feminine but not necessarily -a ending, like [name]Lilith[/name], [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], etc.
I think it’s definitely usable, and I love [name]Imogen[/name] Heap so that leaves me wanting to like it… unfortunately it’s not one of my favorites, but I think it would get a find response.
