I’ve recently fallen for the name [name]Lesley[/name], pretty hard.
Which may surprise some of you who know that I don’t like male names on females. However, [name]Lesley[/name] is unisex to me which I have no problem with. [name]Lesley[/name] is like [name]Ashley[/name] to me.
Nameberry says it means “garden by the pool” which I adore, but I don’t think is accurate as every other reputable sources say it’s “garden of hollies”.
I heard that in the U.K. [name]Lesley[/name] is the female spelling, and [name]Leslie[/name] is the male? Could U.K. berries shed some light on that statement?
What are you general thoughts/opinions/feelings on [name]Lesley[/name]?
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Ava[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - SO’s favourite
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Aurore[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]Aurora[/name] is too much in the combo imo.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Aria[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - I like L.A.C. combos because it’s close to [name]Lace[/name], which would be cute.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - A bit much, but it could work maybe.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Ariel[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - Ehh feels too 80s but an idea.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Aubrey[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - Too much e-sound endings?
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Ashleigh[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - Same as above?
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Laurel[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - I really like the alliteration with the Ls. [name]Laurel[/name]'s also one of my birth middle names.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Leighton[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - Again, L alliteration!
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] / [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Aria[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is my favorite.
I like [name]Lesley[/name] and agree that it is in the [name]Ashley[/name]/[name]Whitney[/name]/[name]Tracy[/name] category of boys names gone girly. I do like [name]Lesley[/name] on a boy as well.
I think a modern middle like [name]Aria[/name] elevates [name]Lesley[/name] and makes it feel younger &fresher. [name]Lesley[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] sounds pretty, but feels dated.
I think [name]Lesley[/name] is alright. It does sound a bit dated to me, but I mostly think of [name]Amy[/name] Poehler’s character from [name]Parks[/name] and Rec, which I love, so it gets a positive thumbs-up in my book. While we at NB know it to be unisex, I do think that in [name]America[/name], I think that it will be considered a totally female name by 99% of people you meet.
[name]Lesley[/name] [name]Elaina[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] (I prefer [name]Elena[/name] usually, but [name]Elaina[/name] works), [name]Lesley[/name] [name]Ava[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Lesley[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Noelle[/name] are my favorites with [name]Lesley[/name] [name]Laurel[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] as a runner up. I think these all flow really well, don’t have too much “ee” like the ones where the first two names end in that sound, and they keep [name]Lesley[/name] sounding fresher instead of a little dated. Congrats!
From what I understand [name]Leslie[/name] is the masculine version and [name]Lesley[/name] is the feminate version of the name, but these days either spelling would work. Most people will probably reckon it’s a girl’s name, just how most folks don’t know that [name]Ashley[/name] used to be a male name.
As for what I think of it, it was my grandfather’s name, he hated it so he had always gone by another name. I think it works well though for a girl.
I am a [name]Leslie[/name], which is the more common US spelling for girls, though in the states the name is pretty much gone solely to the girls at this point. I’ve known girls with both spellings but mostly spelled like mine.
I have a very typical filler mn, and would love if it were more unique. If I were choosing, I’d pick [name]Leslie[/name] [name]Ava[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] from your list. Not on your list but has the alliteration I like [name]Leslie[/name] [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
It’s a nice name with a longish history and a pleasant sound. It suffers only from being commonly given in the 80s, so it will strike listeners as a bit ho-hum. However, she’ll be the only [name]Lesley[/name] in her class, but she’ll fit in well with all her little [name]Hayley[/name] and [name]Emily[/name] friends.
From what I understand, [name]Lesley[/name] is the more common female spelling and [name]Leslie[/name] more for males, but as the only male Leslies I know go by [name]Les[/name] anyway I don’t actually know how they spell their full name. The only hesitation I have with the name is when she hits her teens, when I was in secondary school ‘les’ used to be slang for lesbian, and that could incur a bit of teasing.
I am a [name]Lesley[/name] and prefer my spelling (just cause!). It IS the female version and you will not find any personalized items in the States! I have always understood it to me “from the [name]Grey[/name] [name]Fort[/name]” since -ley names are “place names” (given almost as surnames to describe where someone is from).
I did not like it as a kid but I do think it ages well.
[name]Hope[/name] that helps!
