I posted the other day asking for alternatives to [name_f]Julia[/name_f], and this caught my eye. I love the rich sound, the familiarity, the way it rolls off the tongue- I know it would be a bit of a challenge in the US, but I’m not naming kids right now that doesn’t matter so much. What do you think?
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Yulia[/name_f]… it looks a little too unique/smoosh to me ([name_u]Yule[/name_u] + [name_f]Julia[/name_f]).
Americans would always be asking, “You mean [name_f]Julia[/name_f]?”
It sounds very Russian to me. I prefer [name_f]Yula[/name_f] to [name_f]Yulia[/name_f].
I know a little [name_f]Julia[/name_f]-pronounced-[name_f]Yulia[/name_f]; she lives in [name_u]Sweden[/name_u]. I’ve always liked that version of the name. I do think you’d get a lot of “you mean [name_f]Julia[/name_f]?” in [name_u]America[/name_u], though.
