Zaccheus

What do you think of [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] Edwards ? Is it too weird ? [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? I was thinking either [name_m]Zack[/name_m]-ee-us or Za-key- us.

I honestly think [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] sounds really harsh. [name_f]My[/name_f] instinct is to pronounce it [name_m]Zack[/name_m]-ee-us.

I much prefer [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] Edwards, or if you really want to keep the ‘S’ sound [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] Edwards - though it can be rather off-putting when both first and last name end with the same sound.

There’s always [name_m]Zachary[/name_m], though that feels very tied to the 80s/90s.

Nah don’t like [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m] and [name_m]Zacharias[/name_m] or [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]. Only [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] unfortunately. It doesn’t sound that bad having s ending first and middle… I can think of worse things.

If you really love [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] / [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] then go for it! It’s not to my taste, but it’s certainly not horrible.

Thanks  I’m sorry if I came across as rude or anything we all have different tastes, I’m just a bit nervous I’ve never been able to find any record of the name use ever on the net so worried its a bit out there.

Well, I’m a big fan of obscure biblical names…so I love it. It has easy recognizable nickname with “[name_m]Zac[/name_m]”. The way I’ve always heard it pronounced in the bible story is Zah- KEY - us. I think it sounds good in the combo you created as well. If you love it, more power to you!

Thanks fair child, I love it, it’s obscure but not indistinguishable as biblical. I remember him as the guy who climbed the tree to see [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] and I think that the namesake is cool too. Thanks for the encouragement glad I’m not the only one loving on [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m]/ [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m]

[name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] is my favorite of the [name_m]Zac[/name_m]- names and I’ve often wondered why I never meet any little boys named [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m], so I’m really happy to see someone considering it! It’s one of those names that feels like it should be popular, but isn’t. I pronounce it [name_m]Zak[/name_m]-key-us, but both pronunciations sound really similar to me.

Did you go to [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] School as a little kid? I did and there was a song about [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] that would make me not use it on my son. The song started with:
“[name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] was a wee little man and a wee little man was he…”

One of the most offensive things you could do to a man is calling him wee/little/small. Your son might have to endure teasing with that song. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if people don’t know the song, if they know [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] then they know he had to climb a tree because he was so little.

To me, it sounds like a made up name…the [name_m]Zach[/name_m]-ee sound if off-putting (at least for me). Perhaps a little boy with this name would be ok but I’m imagining a grown man with the name [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] and I just don’t think it works, sorry :frowning:

I have a soft spot for unusual Biblical names and [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] fits the bill. It’s pronounced “zah-KEE-us”. I like the story of the wealthy tax collector whom [name_m]Jesus[/name_m] visited. The man was so impressed that he decided to give half of what he owned to the poor. Since he’ll probably get [name_m]Zac[/name_m] or [name_m]Zack[/name_m] anyway, I don’t see the name as being too much of a problem. Is it rare? Yes, very. [name_m]Will[/name_m] it be mispelled or mispronounced. Maybe. Is it too “out-there”. With boys being named [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Maximus[/name_m] and [name_m]Titus[/name_m], I shouldn’t think so. If you love the name, I would encourage you to choose it. It would truly be a bold and memorable choice.

Yes, [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m] in the Bible was small and he had to climb up a tree to get a view of [name_m]Jesus[/name_m]. I don’t see what the problem is. I watch a program called “The [name_m]Little[/name_m] Couple” and I find their story quite inspirational.

I like this name! It’s different, but has the familiar [name_m]Zach[/name_m]/[name_m]Zack[/name_m] as a nickname so it’s not too out-there. I also say Zah-KEE-us.

I did think of the “[name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] was a wee little man” song, but if you’re not in an area with a big church-going population, I can’t see that being an issue. I’d never heard the song until I started attending church in my 20s, and I doubt many people in my circle would know it. Plus, as [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said, it’s a great story.

[name_f]My[/name_f] only thought is “[name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] was a wee little man and a wee little man was he. He climbed in a sycamore tree for the [name_m]Lord[/name_m] he wanted to see”. I think it would be a hard name to pull off.

[name_f]My[/name_f] father wanted to name me [name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] if I was a boy (my mother vetoed that, and I would have been [name_m]Zachary[/name_m].) I’ve always had a soft spot for the name because of him. It is unusual, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It has the infinitely usable nickname of [name_m]Zach[/name_m] to bring it back down to earth.

I think it’s a great alternative [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] or [name_m]Zachariah[/name_m], both of which I’m not a big fan of. I think [name_m]Zacchaeus[/name_m], is nice, and I really like [name_m]Timaeus[/name_m] as well. I’d say it [name_m]Zack[/name_m]-ee-us.

I pronounce it Za-[name_u]KAY[/name_u]-us.

It’s not really my style, but if you love it, use it! Fair warning though: it’ll probably be shortened to [name_m]Zach[/name_m] sooner or later.

I’m ok with it being shortened to [name_m]Zach[/name_m]/[name_m]Zac[/name_m]

Za-kee-us is how I’m saying.

As always, [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said my thoughts perfectly.

[name_m]Zaccheus[/name_m] is definitely zah-KEE-us.
