Zaia

Thoughts on the name Zaia? Would you pronounce it Zeye-ah?

I’ve never heard of Zaia before, but it looks lovely! After a quick google search it seems to be a Greek name, yes? With that in mind, at first glance, I would pronounce it zeh-ah. Though intuitively I want to pronounce it as you do. I am curious about what the “correct” pronunciation would be…

My first thought was ZAY-a but then I questioned that with “zeye-ah” with the beginning sounding like [name_u]Kai[/name_u]. I would probably think it was a play on the [name_f]Kaia[/name_f]/[name_f]Maia[/name_f] trend.

I actually really like it

Theres a character in a program I watch named Saya ([name_m]Sy[/name_m]-ah) and i always thought it was pretty. I like better with the Z

I’d say Zaia with the eye sound.
I actually looked up what @mellona said and Zaia is a type of plant that’s been used for flour that’s been used since ancient Greece. Pronounced ZEH-ah or [name_f]ZEE[/name_f]-ah. You can find it as zea in English.

I’d say it with the first syllable rhyming with [name_u]Kai[/name_u], yes. I like it! Z names are always zippy and fun, and this one feels very bright and energetic.

I actually know of someone with a baby boy called Zaia – I love it even more for a boy (but I’m a sucker for a-ending boys’ names, and super-quirky boys’ names).
