Zamir (Hebrew/Arabic/Urdu/Albanian)

[name]Zamir[/name].
I haven’t yet decided if I like this name or not, but I think I like it quite a bit (just discovered it, need to let it settle in before I decide for sure). But I’m always on the look-out for names that are meaningful in several languages and could work in many countries.

In Hebrew it means ‘song-bird or nightingale’
In Arabic and Urdu it means ‘thought or conscious’
In Albanian it means ‘good voice’

What do you think of this name?

I don’t know if it realistically has a chance to make our top 5 or 10 list, but it feels like one of those names that could grow on me if I let it sit for awhile.

As a side not, our other sons name (Rayhan–瑞晗) also has great meanings in several languages (Chinese/Arabic/Persian/Sanskrit), which is one of the reasons I’m attracted to the possibility of choosing another name that has meanings in several languages.

I love when the same name works well in different languages; I think [name]Zamir[/name] would be great. And in addition to working in Arabic, Urdu, Albanian and Hebrew, it’s simple in English as well.
My name works in many languages (not always with the same pronunciation, but I really don’t care about that) and I really appreciate having a name that travels well.

It’s a very ethnic sounding name.

It would be a bit strange on a blond/blue eyed child in the midwest. But depending on your own cultural background and location I think it could work. It’s a beautiful name.
[name]Samira[/name] is one that really attracts me, so I can understand the love.

Appreciate the comments!
I do agree that it might sound strange, or at least very foreign, in some communities, but I’m not too averse to that. Myself I’m a European mutt (Welsh/Irish/Polish/[name]German[/name]/etc), but my own name is Arabic/Persian/Sanskrit (Javad-- yes, I’m male). Our kids will be half me and 1/2 Naxi (a Chinese ethnic minority from SW [name]China[/name] near Tibet). I’ve always loved my name and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. So in some ways the ‘foreign feeling’ of a name almost makes me more attracted to it. I just can’t figure out if that’s the main reason I like this name or if I like it independent of that as well or not.

I like [name]Zamir[/name]. I think it works well with Rayhan. It’s familiar enough that no one will butcher it, but different enough that he’ll be the only one in his class. I don’t know if you ever call Rayhan “[name]Ray[/name],” but I think a little Zam and a little [name]Ray[/name] would be super cute.
