Zane for a girl?

[name]Hi[/name], I’m looking for thoughts on using [name]Zane[/name] as a first name for a girl. I know it is traditionally a boy’s name, but I love it for a girl. What do people think? Thanks.

I don’t like it at all for a boy, so I especially don’t like it for a girl. It just sounds like insane and doesn’t give a very good first impression in my opinion. Its not feminine at all so I’d stay away from it.

[name]Zane[/name] is a pretty masculine-sounding name for a girl so I personally wouldn’t choose it. If I saw [name]Zane[/name] written out, I would automatically think it’s a boy. I know actor [name]Eddie[/name] [name]Murphy[/name] has a daughter [name]Shayne[/name] [name]Audra[/name] so maybe if you do decide to use it, you could spell it similar to her name: [name]Zayne[/name]. A lot of people think if they spell names with the trendy “y” that it miraculously “feminizes” them (eg. [name]Addisyn[/name], [name]Madisyn[/name], [name]Emersyn[/name], [name]Ellyot[/name] etc…). I don’t see the logic in this trend and most of the names just look misspelled but it seems to be common practice and the way of the future.

I don’t like it at all. There are a ton of other really pretty Z names for girls.

I like [name]Zane[/name] OK for a boy but agree it lends itself to “zany” as a nickname and that might not be most positive, and I think that’s especially true for girls since people are more prone to adding -ee to nicknames for them than for boys.

Also, I think if I heard this, I would think the girls name was [name]Jane[/name] and she was saying it wrong, or if the parent said it, I would think the name was [name]Jane[/name] and I heard it wrong.

I wouldn’t recommend this. I think you could do [name]Jane[/name] nn [name]Zane[/name], or [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Jane[/name] nn [name]Zane[/name], or another Z name, especially with [name]Jane[/name] in the middle.

I particularly like [name]Zara[/name], [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Zinnia[/name], and there are some other nice ones out there if the Z is the main thing you like.

[name]Zane[/name] is one of my favorite boys’ names, so I of course prefer it there. It’s such a cool name, full of life and so sprightly, I think, haha. It’s definitely all-boy to me, but with so many -ane names on both genders ([name]Shane[/name], [name]Jane[/name], [name]Lane[/name], [name]Raine[/name], [name]Cain[/name]/[name]Kane[/name], [name]Thane[/name], [name]Wayne[/name], [name]Zane[/name], [name]Dane[/name], etc.), I can see where people would get the idea to use it for a girl. It’s definitely all boy to me, though!

I agree that there are more attractive “Z” names for girls (imo, anyway). [name]Zara[/name], [name]Zinnia[/name], [name]Zenobia[/name], and [name]Zuzanna[/name] are the first to come to mind. I’m not sure how usable [name]Zenobia[/name] and [name]Zuzanna[/name] are, though…

My friend has a daughter named [name]Mallorie[/name] [name]Zane[/name] so I think it could work for a girl. I would just give her a very feminine middle name like

[name]Zane[/name] [name]Arabella[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Gabrielle[/name]
[name]Zane[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Zane[/name] isn’t one of my favorite names on a boy to begin with, so on a girl I’m not exactly cheering. There are other nice girls names that begin with Z, such as (as others have pointed out) [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Zenobia[/name], [name]Zadie[/name], [name]Zaferina[/name], [name]Zaheera[/name], Zabelle, [name]Zanne[/name], and [name]Zamora[/name].
However, if you really love [name]Zane[/name], then use it. I agree with names4real, and suggest you use a very feminine and frill name, like [name]Arabella[/name] or [name]Helena[/name].

[name]Every[/name] time I look at this name I see “zany” not a name. I don’t really like it on boys, but its a definite NO for girls.

Zane is for boys for me, but it could work with a feminine middle name. Also, Nameberry has the girls name Zaneta listed when you search Zane, if you want to consider that. I agree there are other beautiful Z names for girls, one of my professors names is Zabelle [name]Katherine[/name]… but it’s all your decision. If you think you can make it work, you do it.
I would suggest:

Zane Marissa
Zane Isabella
Zane Victoria
Zane Gianna

Under no circumstances.

Maybe in the middle spot but sorry no way

I don’t like [name]Zane[/name] on a boy, much less on a girl.

I dont like the name for a boy so especially not for a girl. I like Jesbas idea of [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Jane[/name] nn [name]Zane[/name] or another Z first name. I nanny a baby girl named [name]Zalia[/name] which is more feminine and softer sounding than [name]Zane[/name].

I don’t care for it as a girl name at all. I also agree that using it as a nickname would be a good solution – whether you use something like Zanita or [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or another Za- name.

I think [name]Zane[/name] is very much an all boy name. There’s a similar name [name]Zanne[/name] that a previous poster mentioned. What about [name]Zara[/name] or [name]Zoe[/name]?

[name]Don[/name]'t really like the name [name]Zane[/name] for a boy, and I think it’s pretty unattractive on a girl. There’s plenty of pretty Z names for girls out there.
