Hello Berries, I was discussing girls names with my SO and I found that he loves the name [name_f]Zara[/name_f]. It has since grown on me, however I prefer the [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] spelling so it isn’t so short and also because it is less common. I saw a movie with a little girl named [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] and fell in love with the name even more and it didn’t seem a big deal that it was set in Iran. Since then I have seen the name spelt that way at least twice more, and they were all from the Middle [name_f]East[/name_f]. Does that matter? People use [name_m]French[/name_m] names in [name_u]America[/name_u] often so I don’t think it is that big a deal, but will there be issues with spelling for her later on? At least the pronunciation will be clear lol.
What do you think? Simple [name_f]Zara[/name_f] or more unique [name_f]Zahra[/name_f]?
Any middle name suggestions would be great too! [name_f]TIA[/name_f].
I think that there are enough similarities between [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and [name_f]Sara[/name_f] that it makes it more approachable for cultural crossover – which ultimately most of our names are!
I like the [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] spelling better. I also like that this way provides a little more emphasis on that first syllable, making the name sound a little longer too.
I think I actually prefer the [name_f]Zara[/name_f] spelling. Apparently both names are Arabic in origin, but have different meanings. Also, I love zappy Z’s! Here are some middle options…
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Zahra[/name_f], I know a little girl with that name and think it’s very usable even if you’re not Arabic. I really like your [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] combo. (:
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Zahra[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
I would choose the [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] spelling only if I had Arab ancestry. Personally, I would feel strange using this spelling because I don’t have any ties. That’s just my comfort level talking.
I would choose the [name_f]Zara[/name_f] spelling if I was English speaking. This is the most familiar spelling for me and I would be more comfortable using it.
[name_m]Aren[/name_m]'t they pronounced differently? I’ve always heard [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] as “zah-RAH” with emphasis on the second syllable and [name_f]Zara[/name_f] as “ZAR-ah” with emphasis on the first syllable. I personally wouldn’t use [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] unless you have Arab roots.
Though, I do like that the [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] spelling emphasizes the long A in the first syllable to prevent it from being pronounced like [name_f]Sara[/name_f] with a Z.
Thanks everyone! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it will cause problems in Australia? I do like either pronunciation so that doesn’t bother me. I still like the [name_f]Zahra[/name_f] spelling best, just not sure if it’s usable here.
I like [name_f]Zara[/name_f], it makes me think of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and my cousin named [name_f]Zara[/name_f].
