[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all.
Due with #3 next month and needing help with girls names! So far we Can only agree on [name_f]Elke[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Olive[/name_f] also. We don’t mind [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and recently have been tossing up the idea of [name_u]Tully[/name_u] for a girl. It is my favourite boys name but is a unisex name and my husband likes it more for a girl. Our other top name is [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], Nn [name_f]Immy[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Immy[/name_f] but not sure about [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]…Today I came across a beautiful, very unusual name - Zimmy / Zimmi!
My questions are:
what do you think of the name
Zimmy /
Zimmi!
what do you think of [name_u]Tully[/name_u] for a girl?
middle name suggestions for both?
Our Girl is [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and boy [name_u]Lennox[/name_u] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] (usually called [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]). Thanks in advance!
Zimmy feels a little unfinished or informal to me. Seeing it made me look up Zimmia, but I guess I was thinking of the sunflower: [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f]! [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] could be cool with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and still go by Zimmy.
Not big on [name_u]Tully[/name_u] for a girl.
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Tyne[/name_f]), [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Elke[/name_f] are all solid choices
Zimmy sounds like a male cartoon character to me. Along the lines of [name_m]Jimmy[/name_m] Neutron or [name_m]Timmy[/name_m] [name_m]Turner[/name_m] (Fairly Odd Parents). Not a fan, sorry. I’m not super keen on [name_u]Tully[/name_u] either but it sounds much more like a girl’s name than Zimmy. I think [name_f]Immy[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] as well, if you’re not big on [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], or [name_f]Elke[/name_f] are your best options.
I like your more traditional options best, especially with the siblings. [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] are all beautiful, [name_f]Elke[/name_f] too.
[name_u]Tully[/name_u] is cool, but I much prefer it for a boy. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Tansy[/name_f], [name_f]Thandie[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Tulsi[/name_f], Tesni, [name_f]Tempe[/name_f], [name_f]Thisbe[/name_f], [name_f]Tulip[/name_f], [name_f]Tullia[/name_f]…?
I’m afraid I’m not too keen on Zimmy. I love the zippy Z sound but it sounds a bit incomplete to me. It reminds me a little of [name_m]Zimri[/name_m], but that’s a male name. [name_m]How[/name_m] about something like [name_f]Zosia[/name_f], Zelfa, Zazie, [name_f]Zelie[/name_f], Zari, [name_u]Zola[/name_u], [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]…?
Zimmy is a little too zaney I think. It sounds like a nickname for Zimmerman maybe? Or something that Unbreakable [name_f]Kimmy[/name_f] Schmidt would call herself. [name_u]Tully[/name_u] is OK but a little blah. I like your other options better.
Maybe…
[name_f]Zadie[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tibbie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] nn … [name_f]Sibbie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Libby[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Toula[/name_f]
[name_f]Petula[/name_f]
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sigrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is my top choice out of the options you gave! But I also think [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_m]Lenny[/name_m], and [name_u]Tully[/name_u] are definitely siblings!
I’m not a fan of Zimmy, but it’s fine for a nn - could you use it for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]: [name_f]Immy[/name_f] leading to Zimmy? [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] is my easy favourite of your names. I do like [name_u]Tully[/name_u] for a girl though - I find it feisty and fresh.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elke[/name_f] are lovely!
I wonder whether you might like Ylva, Ylvi, [name_f]Idony[/name_f], [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Calixta[/name_f], [name_f]Ione[/name_f], [name_f]Clover[/name_f] or [name_f]Eluned[/name_f]?
Are you open to Zimmy as a nn?
I feel like it might work for [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] or [name_u]Simone[/name_u], and maybe even [name_f]Imogen[/name_f].
Some more ideas:
[name_f]Eseld[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], Isobelor [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], nn. Zelly
[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] nn Zummy or Zundy?
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Hepzibah[/name_f], nn. [name_f]Zibby[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] or [name_f]Kezia[/name_f] nn. Zizzy
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or [name_f]Zabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] nn. Zabby
[name_f]Tziporah[/name_f], nn. Zippy
[name_f]Ziva[/name_f] nn. Zivvy
Zennor or [name_f]Azenor[/name_f] or [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] or [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] nn. Zenny or Zinny
[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f] or [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] nn. Zanny or Zuzzi
[name_m]Zorion[/name_m] nn. Zorri or Zozzi
One of my mum’s more frequent nns for me is Zimmy (my full name’s a variant of [name_f]Jamilla[/name_f]), so I can’t quite imagine it as a full name; I wouldn’t exactly want my friends to know about it. But I think it works fine as a nn for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. I slightly prefer [name_u]Tully[/name_u], it feels closer to names like [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] and [name_f]Millie[/name_f], which work well as full names in my opinion. Middle suggestions:
Personally, I don’t think that Zimmy/Zimmi fits with your other children’s names, but if you love it, I guess you can go with it! And not really a fan of [name_u]Tully[/name_u] for a girl, either. Apart from that, I really like all your other choices!
I don’t think Zimmy or [name_u]Tully[/name_u] really go with your other children’s names. I do like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] (could be nn Zimmy), or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Lennox[/name_u].
Zimmy feels like a child’s nickname to me. Not really a proper name in its own self.
[name_u]Tully[/name_u] works for a girl but I think it doesn’t go so much with your other childrens’ names. Of your other names I like [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] best with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_u]Lennox[/name_u].
Zimmy seems like a pet name you can call anyone. [name_u]Tully[/name_u] feels more like an actual name. [name_f]Talullah[/name_f] nn [name_u]Tully[/name_u] would be nice and go well with [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_m]Lenny[/name_m]. [name_f]Tulia[/name_f]/[name_f]Tullia[/name_f] is an option too.
Other idea:
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tibby[/name_f]/[name_f]Tabby[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] or [name_f]Milly[/name_f]
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f]/[name_f]Ottilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] nn [name_f]Milly[/name_f]
[name_m]Hi[/name_m]. I honestly just created an account so that I could comment on this thread. It caught my eye with an actual unusual name that I haven’t seen before, and I like it. It’s not crazy weird either. I don’t think it really “goes” with the other twos, but she’s not going to be defined by her siblings anyway. If you and your husband enjoy it, I say go for it. Use it as a nickname instead if that’s what you decide too, I just don’t want so much negative feedback to sway you from liking it. I do like [name_u]Tully[/name_u] too.
Zimmy/Zimmi isn’t my style & it’s so unusual that for me it doesn’t go w/[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] & [name_u]Lennox[/name_u]/[name_m]Lenny[/name_m].
I second the mention of [name_f]Tullia[/name_f] nn [name_u]Tully[/name_u].
Of your other options you mentioned, [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] & [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] seem too long to go well w/[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] too formal (although I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as a name). [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] to me has the same spritely informal feel that [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] does & goes w/a flower theme; [name_f]Tansy[/name_f] would fit too, as would [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] & [name_f]Holly[/name_f] aren’t quite as spritely, nor is [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] nn Primmy or even [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], maybe?
I do prefer Zimmy to [name_u]Tully[/name_u], but I think it makes a better nickname. Like a fun combo between Zippy and [name_f]Kimmy[/name_f].
I think it would be nice as a NN for a first name/middle name combo, for example: [name_f]Zara[/name_f] [name_u]Simone[/name_u], [name_f]Zilla[/name_f] [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_f]Zinnia[/name_f] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_f]Zella[/name_f] [name_f]Kimber[/name_f], [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Romilly[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u], [name_u]Mackenzie[/name_u] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] …
Please don’t name your daughter Zimmy. If you look it up in an urban dictionary it is not a very dignified meaning. Ugh!
Also, [name_u]Tully[/name_u] reminds me of the Seseme [name_m]Street[/name_m] character. Although he is cute, he is not suitible [name_f]IMO[/name_f] for a girl’s name.
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Tulsi[/name_f] or [name_f]Zelie[/name_f]? Both beautiful girl’s names.
Just to add to my previous post: I think all of Elke, Clementine, Olive, Imogen and Tully go fine with Poppy and Lennox.
I’m not a fan of Olive, but I love Clementine and Imogen, and Elke is nice. Clementine and Imogen both work well style-wise with Poppy and Lennox.
Zimmy would work for a nn for Imogen (not that it needs one).
I like Tully and think it would work well with Poppy and Lennox. It would also be great as a nn for Tallulah. Tallulah works well with siblings. I’m not a fan of making Tully a nn of Tulia unless you’re going to pronounce Tulia in the Italian way and it seems out of place with the sibling names.
