19th century nicknames (Scotland)

Yeah, I imagine it’s usually Eye-suh, maybe modelled after Gaelic names like Ailsa / Isla! (I’ll tag @judy.newstead for a further Scottish perspective here - would that be the natural way to pronounce Isa as a nickname for Isabella? :slightly_smiling_face:)

None came up but the data isn’t perfect - the nickname needs to be listed on their gravestone to come up which maybe they didn’t if the nickname was really obvious/less personal and unique? Also they needed to be formatted in the right way in the database to come up in my search so if it’s not formatted like Helen “Nell” then I wouldn’t have seen it! I think Jeanie would have been a lot more common than Janey in Scotland but I’m guessing there were a few Nells around.
