3 days late and name changes!?!?

Okay so I’ve posted before and with all your help we were able to pick out a name that we felt pretty good with. However, we have suddenly felt a little change in heart. Our girl name picked out was [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. We felt at times “[name_f]Ayla[/name_f]” seemed like an incomplete name. A couple nights ago we played with the name [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] and actually really liked it. But I’m just struggling with going back and forth between [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] and [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. If it’s a boy we are set on [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u].
Our other kids names:
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]
[name_u]Evan[/name_u] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Jade[/name_f]

Need some thoughts and advice. Thanks namers!

I like [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], I feel like it’s a name that she can grow into and it works well with her other siblings names.
I can see her being a cool confident teenage girl named [name_u]Sierra[/name_u].

I don’t know why I struggle with girl names so much, but this baby is due any minute now and I feel like I maybe stuck if this ends up being a girl. Happened that way with our daughter a couple years ago, very stressful.

I like [name_u]Sierra[/name_u]! [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] sounds really nice as well. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is a beautiful name, but you’re right when you say that it’s somewhat incomplete. Maybe you’d like [name_f]Layla[/name_f]? It’s a pretty established name like your other children’s.

I tired the other “forms” of ayla and I wasn’t or my husband wasn’t fond of them: [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], etc

Does [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] sound more soft and feminine and [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] sounds a little more hard/harsh?

What if you spelled it Aila or Aisla?

I love [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]! It’s soft, feminine and not super common.

I don’t think [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] sounds incomplete and I usually dislike incomplete or nickname sounding names (for the formal name). It’s very similar to [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - both are simple, feminine and pretty without being frilly. I think it’s a great fit with [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and your sibset. I much prefer it to [name_u]Sierra[/name_u].

I think [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] is beautiful. It has lovely imagery. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is pretty as well, but it feels a bit modern/trendy.

I really like the name [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]. What sticks out to me though is the ‘e’ sounds in [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u], which [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] doesn’t really have. (Yes it has an e, but makes a different sound.) I think the name [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] would balance the sounds in your sibset a bit more. But that’s probably not a good enough reason to not choose [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] if that’s the one you love!

Thank you all for the feedback. It’s a very hard decision.

[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is a very cute name, I remember I first heard of it on your other thread =]
I also remember thinking it could be perceived as looking incomplete, but the reason I thought you shouldn’t use it (despite it sounding just perfect with [name_f]Primrose[/name_f]) was because [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] and [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] are pretty rhymey.

[name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is gorgeous and I think that’s the one to go with! It’s a really beautiful combo.

This might sound stupid, but I would write each one big in marker on paper and put them up in your house in two different places where you will see them all the time. Maybe when u see them in daily life one will start looking more appealing and one will start annoying u a bit.

Both are perfect names. is [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] maybe a bit safer/more common? Is that why you are picking it? After putting so much thought into a unique name like [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], will u later regret kind of chickenjng out at the last minute and picking [name_u]Sierra[/name_u]? Not saying that’s what you are doing. I really like the name [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] too. But something to think about

[name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] sounds beautiful, especially with your children’s names. I feel it fits in better in the Sibset. One of my best friends is named [name_u]Sierra[/name_u], so I might be slightly biased, but I’ve always thought it was a wonderful name.

I think that you will ‘know’ when the baby comes. If it’s a boy you’re off the hook! I really like [name_u]Sierra[/name_u]. I taught a beautiful girl called [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. Her sister is called [name_f]Baylie[/name_f]. I have fond memories of her name. [name_m]How[/name_m] are you pronouncing [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]? A-la or Eye- la? She may find herself having to pronounce it more than she would like. Also have you considered [name_u]Skyler[/name_u]? It sort of combines them both haha.

I prefer [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]. I think it’s a really beautiful name, and I don’t see it as incomplete at all. I pronounce it the same as [name_f]Isla[/name_f], and I think with this pronunciation it sounds really nice with the sibling names. To me it just feels a little bit more rare and a little more captivating. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is a beautiful combo, as well.

[name_u]Sierra[/name_u] is also a very pretty name, and because it is more common it has less spelling/pronunciation ambiguity. If that is important to you, then it may be a better choice for you than [name_f]Ayla[/name_f].

[name_u]Sierra[/name_u] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] sounds very botanical to me. This is not a bad thing, it just has a strong nature feel, and sounds like the description of a plant that you would find in a mountain range (sierra). Actually I just looked it up and it IS a plant. So if you like this plant, that could be another pro to the name  Google

[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is adorable!

Thank you for your responses it brings up good points.
We are now 5 days late with this baby so I guess it gives us time to think!
We personally pronounce [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] as (A-luh) long A.

I much prefer [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] to [name_u]Sierra[/name_u]. Something about [name_u]Sierra[/name_u] always sounds too harsh to me. [name_f]Primrose[/name_f] is so sweet… I think [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] suits it much better.
