Four little women that I can picture growing up together. <3 (@Evergreeninrain Iāve added backstories )
Elisabeth Joy
I donāt know if I can think of a more elegant name than Elisabeth. It is forever timeless and classy. Itās actually my middle name (spelled differently), and growing up I wished it was my first name. Giving it to my daughter would pass down a family name, and also in a way fulfill my own desire to be called Elisabeth. Joy is such a little name, but with such a powerful meaning. In Christianity, Joy isnāt the same as happiness. Joy comes from the Lord, and is something that perseveres through both happy and sad times of oneās life. I hope my daughter can always find this joy, and that she will know how much joy she gives me.
Susanna Ruth
I just think Susanna is one of the most beautiful, gentle sounding names. So sweet and comforting. My mom and I both love this name, which is very hard to come by! Ruth is for Ruth in the Bible, and also for the meaning ābeloved friend.ā
Caroline May
I was precepted by a nurse this semester named Caroline, and she was the sweetest, most wonderful nurse Iāve ever had. The love and care she showed her patients will always be inspiring to me. It is also an honor for may late grandmother, who would have named her daughter Carrie, but she never had a daughter. May is my nickname, and Iāve always loved it and wanted to pass it down in some way.
Rosemary Jane
This is a new addition to my list, but I think Rosemary just fits in so perfectly with the other three! I love that she could be Rose, Rosie, Romy, etc. Iāve always loved Rose, and I think Rosemary just adds an extra bit of warmth to it. Jane is just a simple, elegant name that I have recently fallen in love with.
iām doing this again, as my name taste has changed since last time!
~ sunday lyla
i just adore these names, sunday is bright and fun for a child however it could totally work on an adult feeling sophisticated and it just works! lyla is one of my favourite names, itās so gorgeous and just has a gorgeous sound when you say it out loud. these two as a combo make me feel bright and happy and just so lovely together!
~ olivet melissa
olive is actually my great grandmothers name and i have always wished it was my middle name ever since i can remember. so when someone suggested to me i thought this was completely beautiful, like i completely adore this name and think its so sweet! melissa is my favourite persons name, sheās the person i would trust with my life and to honour her with a childās name would be a complete honour!
~ clover bloom
i adore clover, i think its sweet, happy and bright. it has the adorable nicknames of clo clo and clove and itās just one of those names were i donāt have a reason to liking it i just do! bloom is after my favourite television show character, lauren bloom. i think sheās the most awesome spunky character and can also be such a badass, like even though the same itās sweet itās just that spunk which makes me think of her!
~ penrose ellen
such a sweet name, i love penrose! sheās unique but has the unique, sweet nicknames of penny and rosie so itās doesnāt feel unfamiliar at all. such a bright name! ellen is after my second favourite person, iāve loved this woman for four years (not romantically) and i miss her so freaking much. i would do anything to see her again, if i were to have a daughter now sheād be one of the first people iād want to honour!
i enjoyed doing this, took me a while though!
Somehow I donāt think Iāve ever responded to this thread!
[name_f]My[/name_f] quartet of sweet girls would be:
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Hallelujah[/name_f]: Anyone who knows me knows my love for this name. I first fell for the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] when I read The [name_m]Lion[/name_m], the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a child. I love that it is the name of so many amazing women, real and fictional ā from [name_f]Lucille[/name_f] Ball to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_m]Stone[/name_m] to L.M. [name_m]Montgomery[/name_m], a little girl named [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] has so many namesakes to be inspired by. The name also has a beautiful meaning, ālight,ā which encompasses my daughter both being the light of my life and a light in the world as a whole. It reminds me of some of my favorite Bible verses, as well as a quote from the novel [name_m]Gilead[/name_m], which speaks of someone being the ālight of lights,ā which my [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] would be. Her middle name, [name_f]Hallelujah[/name_f], is an expression of joy that I hope would remind my sweet daughter that I am praising [name_m]God[/name_m] for her every day of her life.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Love[/name_f]: [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is another name that Iāve adored since childhood. I think itās one of the most beautiful names that has ever existed. Itās as melodious as it is poetic, particularly within its connection to the [name_m]Longfellow[/name_m] poem. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] also has a beautiful meaning (bringer of good news), which reflects the immense blessing that a little [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] would be to my family. [name_f]Love[/name_f] would be Evieās middle name to serve as a reminder for her that she is unconditionally, unabashedly, forever loved. I would also hope that [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] would use her middle name as inspiration to spread love, light, and good news wherever she can in the world.
[name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]: [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is one that Iāve loved ever since reading it in [name_f]Anne[/name_f] of [name_m]Green[/name_m] Gables. While it was a name of a very minor character in the second book of the series, the name has loomed extremely large in my heart ever since. Corneliaās meaning, āhorn,ā may seem lackluster, but I love that it has a connection to a Bible verse and the idea of leaving an impression on the world through music and sound. I also adore that I could call a girl called [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] āCora,ā which is such a beautiful name that I love just as much as the full name. [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is so that Miss [name_f]Cora[/name_f] would know that she is innately the greatest joy in our lives.
[name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Remember[/name_f]: Oh, [name_f]Ada[/name_f]. This name is ever-so perfect! [name_f]Ada[/name_f], like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], has several incredible namesakes that she could draw inspiration from, like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Lovelace[/name_f] and [name_f]Ada[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] Comstock. Adaās middle, [name_f]Remember[/name_f], would be given so that she could remember how loved she is, no matter what.
These names are so precious to me, even though they arenāt for real children.

My favorite thread to catch up on recognizing a few of my favs today, but i love them all!!
This is such a beautiful, magical name and such a special way to honor your dad!
Thrilled to have you join, I loved reading the meanings behind your names This combo in particular makes my heart singggg!!
I love the classic simplicity of your names! I wanted to highlight sweet Lucy Josephine because I think she perfectly encapsulates how sweet your names are! What a joy!
āHazieā absolutely swooning!!
This sounds like itās straight out of a storybook, truly, Iām in looove!
And finally, a reminder, as the creator of this thread (if anyone is reading this !!) I created this thread because i love reading about what makes a name special. If you have the time and feel comfortable doing so, please share more than just āthe namesā, I want the backstory, the meaning, the heart!!! I want to know the āwhyā! (But of course, you donāt have to! Share however you would like!!)
itās been a while since iāve responded to this topic!!!
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Willa[/name_f]
evangeline is an honour for my two best friends and their mum, who is so important to me! evangeline was suggested to me by my own mum as well, after we found the name in our family tree, and the meaning āgood newsā ties into my [name_m]Christian[/name_m] faith. willa is an honour for my uncle, and itās a name thatās prevalent in my family tree. and as i canāt use william because itās my sweet little nephewās name, iād love to use willa.
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Melrose[/name_f]
i used to dislike beatrice but something just clicked about her a while ago! sheās one of my mumās favourite names (and it was nearly my name!) and i love the character beatrice from much ado about nothing! plus, my middle name is shakespearean, and i think thatās a cute connection <3 melrose is for a special place for my family and i.
[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
ruth is my mumās middle name! it has a great meaning (compassionate friend) and the story of ruth in the Bible has long been a favourite of mine. i love that if i had a ruth, sheād have two great women to look up to that share her name. amelia is another name in my family tree and one of my longest loves.
[name_f]Greta[/name_f] [name_f]Judith[/name_f]
greta is a super stretchy honour for my grandma! i love how clunky she is, and for me she evokes a beautiful magenta colour. judith is my grannyās name! iāve long loved names ending in -th and names that start with j, so sheās pretty perfect for me. greta leonine is another combo i have on my list, and one iād be more likely to use, but for the sake of only naming four girls i have to include my lovely judith!
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] āDellaā
- Iāve loved [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] for a while with itās plethora of nicknames! [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is a family honour name! (itās also my middle name)
[name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] āCeceā
- I think [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] is really pretty. [name_f]My[/name_f] momās name is similar to [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and she always says how she wished sheād been named [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. SO this is for her.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] [name_f]Coral[/name_f] āLuluā
- [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], again, just because I think itās pretty! [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmotherās name is [name_f]Carol[/name_f], which feels outdated to me, but if you swap the A and O you get [name_f]Coral[/name_f], which I really like!
[name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] āWinnieā
- [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] again, because itās pretty! [name_f]Adele[/name_f] is the middle name of a dear family member I would like to honour.
For me, itās important girls names have nickname options!
Using a mix of my all time favourites and current loves⦠(not using any honour names as I havenāt thought about that yet)
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f] [name_f]Marina[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love Soleilās meaning of sun and I love the (slightly stretchy) nickname of [name_f]Lola[/name_f], though I could also call her [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] which I absolutely adore as well. To me the name just rolls off the tongue beautifully and evokes imagery of brilliant sunshine bursting through the clouds. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] has recently emerged as my favourite āMarianne/Mariana/Maria/Marinaā name and I likes its contrast with [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] as sun vs water (Marina means āfrom the seaā) and together they kind of suggest an image of the light of the sun on the ocean, which I love. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] just has the most beautiful sounds to m, and would easily be in contention for the first name spot if not for my aversion to repeating initials within sibsets, and [name_f]Verity[/name_f] is my favourite girls name ever so. I just love the sounds of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] in general, I suppose.
[name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Dido[/name_f] [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] - As previously mentioned, [name_f]Verity[/name_f] is potentially my favourite name ever and natural she is to be included in any sibset I do. I like the nicknames of [name_f]Vera[/name_f] and [name_f]Rita[/name_f], but mostly I would just call her [name_f]Verity[/name_f] as that is what I really love. Although in general I donāt care about name meanings, I like the meaning of ātruthā. [name_f]Dido[/name_f] is a name that I adore but is a bit too GP to be realistically included as a first name, but nevertheless I adore it next to [name_f]Verity[/name_f], and I think it adds some more fieriness to the combo and even to the sibset as a whole. I love [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] as I think it just rounds out any combo beautifully, itās just a perfect middle, especially a second one. I love the sounds against [name_f]Dido[/name_f] especially.
[name_f]Ines[/name_f] [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Hero[/name_f] - [name_f]Ines[/name_f] has fairly recently been promoted to the first name spot. I love itās soft yet strong sound. Iām not sure on how well [name_f]Ines[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] go together but choosing these last two names was an issue⦠I just liked too many that sounded too alike! [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] narrowly missed out on the first name spot, but I still adore it in the middle spot. I love the reference to the moon. [name_f]Hero[/name_f], like [name_f]Dido[/name_f], is a massive GP for me and I had to include it somewhere. Maybe little [name_f]Ines[/name_f] and [name_f]Verity[/name_f] could have a connection over their similar middles?
[name_f]Xenia[/name_f] [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] [name_f]Esther[/name_f] - I donāt think this name flows very well but never mind. I also think the double 'xās look funny but, also, nevermind. [name_f]Xenia[/name_f] is just gorgeous to me, I love the unique first initial and itās repeating āeeā sound (i say it ZEE-nee-a). I think it definitely works as a little sister. I used to love [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] way more than I do now, but I still thinks its lovely and deserving of a middle spot. I like itās meaning of āradiantā and I think it really adds to Xeniaās charms, even if the flow isnāt the greatest. [name_f]Esther[/name_f] also just missed out on a first name spot. I love itās strong yet feminine sounds and itās meaning of āstarā.
[name_f]Soleil[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Ines[/name_f] & [name_f]Xenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sunny[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Ines[/name_f] and [name_f]Xenia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] - [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] was my mother in-lawās favorite auntās name. [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] is a flower in the world of [name_m]Tolkien[/name_m]. [name_f]Kate[/name_f] connects her to 6 different women who have different variants of [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] for either their first or middle name.
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] - my great grannyās name before she was married was Len@ M@ud Redd1ng, so same initials. I wanted to name both of my daughters [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and was talked out of it both times. Iāve adored [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] since I was a teen and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] since I was 5. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is also my husbandās great grandmotherās name.
[name_f]Maple[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - inspired by my other great grannyās name, Emm@ M@ebelle J0hnson. [name_f]Fall[/name_f] is my favorite time of year and I love the [name_f]Maple[/name_f] trees. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] was my grandmaās middle name.
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Wren[/name_f] - Iāve loved [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] since I was a kid. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband loves [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]. [name_f]Wren[/name_f] rounds out the CEW initials nicely which is what my dadās initials are and what mine were before I was married.
[name_f]Kelsey[/name_f] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] [name_m]Lee[/name_m]
[name_f]Kelsey[/name_f] is a name Iāve loved for as long as I can remember, [name_f]Azalea[/name_f] is one I really love but donāt think Iād be brave enough to use as a first name and [name_m]Lee[/name_m] is an honour name
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Maree[/name_f]
[name_f]Hayley[/name_f] is another favourite, [name_f]Anne[/name_f] is an honour name and [name_f]Maree[/name_f] is a family name
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] is one Iāve always thought was pretty (didnāt really think Iād use it because I love nicknames but MJ is really sweet), [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is one of two family middle names that are always passed down for a set of sisters (one sister gets [name_f]Jane[/name_f], one sister gets my middle name but Iām not very fond of mine) and I just love [name_f]Michelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]
[name_f]Bella[/name_f] was my favourite name when I was little and I still like it, same with [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] and [name_f]Cate[/name_f] is a variation for an honour
flora catherine - my love for nature and an honour name for my mother
daisy willow - a name Iāve loved since I was a child with willow as an honour for my brother
marnie juliette - meaning from the sea, marnie reminds me of one of my favourite places to visit
ruby arabella - my birthstone and a name with a meaning well suited for how much of a blessing it would be to have four daughters
[name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] [name_f]Annette[/name_f] - [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] is my newest addiction. I know it isnāt very in style at the moment, but I just love the classic yet not the most common names. I love the nickname options of [name_f]Clary[/name_f], or [name_f]Rissa[/name_f], or even [name_f]Issy[/name_f].
[name_f]Juliette[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] - [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] has been in my top 10 lists for a long time. To me the name [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] screams romanticism and femininity. Iām yet to find a name that I think does this quite as well. For a nickname I would pick [name_f]Julie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] or [name_f]Ettie[/name_f].
[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] - [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] is a beautiful, long, feminine name that has a biblical backstory. I love longer, girlier names a lot of the time and since Iām [name_m]Christian[/name_m] I felt a need to pick at least one biblically inspired name, [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] fits that perfectly. For a nickname I would go with either the obvious [name_m]Gabbi[/name_m], or perhaps [name_f]Bria[/name_f].
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]- A combo that has been on my list for years. I think it flows perfectly. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] has risen in popularity recently, but despite its popularity I canāt ever seem to let go of it. It is popular for a reason after all. The name [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is very pretty, and I love the Latin origins of this name too. For a nickname I would go with [name_f]Emi[/name_f].
So thatās my quartet of girls right now. [name_f]Clary[/name_f], [name_f]Julie[/name_f], [name_m]Gabbi[/name_m], & [name_f]Emi[/name_f]
