What a great date to get married!
[name]Molly[/name] and [name]Franny[/name] are adorable! It seems we have a similar style in liking vintage nicknames - our twins will have the nicknames [name]Dottie[/name] and [name]Maggie[/name].
Hello all, It’s nice to see there are many other name nerds out there. I’ve always loved names. I’ll be 33 this year. I’ve been married coming up on 3 years and trying to get pregnant for almost 2.5 years. [name]Even[/name] though there is no baby on the way yet, I still love to pick out names. My husband and I agree on some but not on others. My father is Scottish so I’d love something that brought his heritage out. My hubby and I both like [name]Isla[/name] for a girl but not sure about boys names.
I love seeing what other people pick and how much each other’s tastes vary.
I like the idea of having a few names picked out before hand but not actually naming the baby until we see it. What if it doesn’t look like the name we picked?
Since a lot of people have put their pets names up I’ll do the same. We have a dog [name]Jethro[/name] and 2 cats, Cow and [name]Zoe[/name]. My hubby named Cow and [name]Zoe[/name] came with her name. We both came up with the dogs name.
[name]Hi[/name] twinkle you are so lucky to be married to a [name]Rupert[/name], it is one of my all time favourite names, you have such style with your names, your children are very lucky to have the special names you have chosen for them.
As I reread your post I got another chuckle out of your description of your son’s name and what type of character he may be, (top hats and velvet jackets) it conjures up a vivid picture in my mind. You mustn’t have any second thoughts on his name - it is brilliant.
It is nice to meet you! I have to ask, how do you pronounce Rodaidh and Tearlaidh? I have never heard of either of them before but they are rather intriguing to me! Also, I love the name [name]Isla[/name], so pretty.

It’s nice to meet you too!
That always gets people! Rodaidh is pn rod-ee (like [name]Roddy[/name]) and Tearlaidh is pn tchar-lee (like [name]Charlie[/name])… aidh or idh at the end of a name is pn “ee”!
Oh and [name]Melissa[/name] sorry to hear about your miscarriage. All the best of luck in the future.

It’s fun getting to know all of you! I’m [name]Caroline[/name], I am 27 and have been married for almost 3 years. No kids yet, but I am seriously feeling the baby itch!! We’re thinking we would like 3 children, hopefully before I’m 35…
If you’ll allow me to ramble for awhile, I feel the need to vent a little bit! I’m a speech therapist and I like my job, but I am SO ready to be a stay-at-home mom. I wish we could start trying now, but (and I am definitely not complaining here!!!) we won a trip to Australia/NZ and we’re going late this year! We’re super excited, but I’m thinking it would be better not to be preggers for such a big trip. So we may well be waiting until [name]January[/name] to start trying. It’s going to be so hard for me to wait that long, though!! At least this will give me time to earn a bit more before I stop working (although I may go back to work when the kids are all school age, if necessary :D) I just feel so ready, so it’s hard to wait! Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better now!
Thank you so much, [name]Rollo[/name]! And I love [name]Rupert[/name]'s name, too (actually, when we first met he made quite a bad impression, and I send to my friend - his cousin - “Well, at least he has a nice name.”!).
Why did you decide on Tearlaidh instead of [name]Charlie[/name]?[/quote]
Because we are from [name]Scotland[/name] and everyone in our families has traditional Scottish Gaelic names… for example my name is Lilidh [name]Ailsa[/name] (lil-ee ayl-sa), my husband is [name]Micheal[/name] Ronaidh (mee-chul ron-ee), my children are Rodaidh [name]Lucas[/name] (rod-ee loo-kas), [name]Isla[/name] [name]Mairead[/name] (eye-la ma-rayd) and the twins will be named Tearlaidh [name]Taran[/name] (tchar-lee ta-ran) and [name]Mairi[/name] [name]Morven[/name] (ma-ree mor-ven)… you get the idea!

Oh okay, good to know! Where did you come up with those names from? Sorry for so many questions, I’m just curious what the origin of them is (name berry doesnt have any info on them). I’m always curious when I hear a new name! ![]()
Twinkle, I don’t post very often, but I had to reply to this! Not only is your [name]Raffy[/name]'s name my very favourite boys name I have ever seen on Nameberry, one that I would steal myself in a heartbeat, but I have a cousin [name]Raphael[/name] (I suspect his real name is [name]Raphaello[/name], but that’s beside the point.) He’s actually my mother’s cousin. He is in his late 40’s, and goes by [name]Rafe[/name] (rhymes with ‘safe’). If he isn’t the most boring man alive I will lose all my faith in humanity. He used to be an accountant actually, but about ten years ago he re-trained in computer science. This makes for riveting conversation at family reunions, as you may imagine. The most interesting thing about him is that he let his wife choose the names of his children, so instead of [name]John[/name] and [name]Jane[/name], he has a [name]Bruno[/name] [name]John[/name] and a [name]Cecily[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. My mother says he tried calling [name]Bruno[/name] ‘[name]John[/name]’ when [name]Bruno[/name] was little, but it never took. I WISH he collected top hats, but I am doomed to disappointment where he’s concerned. He doesn’t like me, because I have a degree in Classics and Latin, and WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO [name]DO[/name] WITH YOUR LIFE, [name]SOPHIA[/name]? is pretty much all he ever says to me.
Sorry for talking aimlessly myself, but I thought I should tell you that if a man is going to be dull and taupe, he prevail through the most extravagant of names. I have nothing against accountants, by the way, almost my entire family are accountants, and they are almost all wonderfully eccentric, or at the very least a little insane.[/quote]
Thank you, Phia; I am glad to know that [name]Raffy[/name] can be as boring as he likes ![]()
Your description of your cousin was hilarious; I’m glad that he let his wife pick their children’s names, as I love [name]Cecily[/name]!
I, too, have a boring cousin … actually, he’s an accountant. Poor accountants, they get such bad press. He is boring to the point that it is comical to listen to him talk, though - although this is probably highlighted by the fact that the rest of our family are so wacky/bizarre/eccentric/creative. My boring cousin likes to say that I wasted the money my parents spent on my education by becoming a primary school teacher, and now by being a stay-at-home mother. It used to bother me, but I don’t particularly respect his opinion, and I know my parents just want me to be happy, so I don’t mind now. My degree was in Classics, too!
Oh I love this thread!
So fun finding out everyone’s ages!
I’m 24. My son [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Scott[/name] is almost 2 (born just a few days before our first anniversary)! Our second Bean will be born in [name]June[/name] too! [name]Rowan[/name] was planned but Bean was a little unexpected! Only by a few months though, and he/she is plenty welcome in our lives!
I have a Liberal Arts BA (that’s about all you can get when you’ve gone to 3 different colleges and have had 4 different majors! I was clearly a bit indecisive in college…) and I’m happy to be a stay-at-home mom!
[name]Lemon[/name], I think you asked how we decided on working arrangements: it was a no-brainer for us. Me being home and raising the children was very important to both me and my DH, so we’ve made the sacrifices necessary to make it happen. I do have an online Etsy shop where I sell baby crochet things and nursery art though!
P.S. Lilidh, I would never have thought you were so young! You seem very wise for your age.
twinkle – Your children’s names are by far and away my favorite names here on Nameberry!
Oh okay, good to know! Where did you come up with those names from? Sorry for so many questions, I’m just curious what the origin of them is (name berry doesnt have any info on them). I’m always curious when I hear a new name! :)[/quote]
Question away - I know they are fairly unusual for most people… They are Scottish/Gaelic in origin… all our names are in a post a few above this one. The names are family ones or shortened versions of family names… You will probably find info on them if you google “scottish names”… [name]Hope[/name] that helps. Lilidh x
You are sweet! Yes, my entire life has been spent either at school or as baby producing, housework doing, food preparing machine! (Not that I’m complaining - I wouldn’t change it for the world!).
Good luck with your Bean!
Lilidh x
Thank you so much! [name]Rowan[/name] is very handsome ![]()

Wow it is so interesting learning more about all of you since I feel like I know so many of you from me commenting on your threads or you on mine.
