Agatha?

I loveeeee this name, DH says it’s “too old-ladyish” to which my response will always be “all old ladies were babies at one point.” :joy:

What are your thoughts?

More modern alternatives?

I really like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]! It has a good meaning, a gentle witch vibe, and its intuitive and feminine without being common or frilly. I think it is ready for revival.

I was strongly of the same opinion as your husband until maybe a year or so ago. Now I understand the appeal & think it’s such a nice name!

Maybe you guys would like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]? It has a similar sound, but feels a little more sleek and current than [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] this :joy:

I love vintagey names but i’ve never been a huge fan of [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is much prettier in my opinion x

I love it! It seems very elegant to me and sounds like it would fit an intelligent and sensitive girl/woman.

haha good point!

[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is the baby in [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] McPhee - I love the name on her!

Have a look through this thread as well – Agatha?

I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], especially with the nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f]. The [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] found in the Halloweentown series, though older, had the spunk and sass that certainly made her seem much younger.

Also, [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] nn [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] was seen as a teenager in Halloweentown 4 , so I can definitely see it working for someone younger. It’s a great name.

[name_f]Agate[/name_f] could work as well.

I too say that. “Also, those people in the nursing home weren’t nursing home residents when they were given their names… they were babies, children, teenagers, young adults and adults at some point too”.

I absolutely love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]! I don’t think you need to change it at all, but how do you (/DH) feel about [name_f]Agate[/name_f]? It’s got a very similar sound, but it’s a gemstone and much less seen. You might also want to consider [name_f]Athena[/name_f], which has similar sounds, but a different (less elderly) vibe.

I’m not keen on [name_f]Agatha[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] is sweeter, probably because of Despicable Me.

Agatha is cute and clunky. I like it.

Lavender, [name_f]Avis[/name_f], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], [name_u]Abilene[/name_u] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] could be alternatives

Agatha is cute! I do prefer [name_f]Agnes[/name_f] though.

I’m going against the grain here and say [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] is much much prettier than [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. I think it’s lovely

I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f].

Agatha is so great, nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] is super cute, I love it. Big fan of an “old lady name” though, they’re making a comeback :two_hearts:

Just going by the sound tone, it’s not great on my ears. But I guess you could look at it as super preppy if you wanted to.

Would you prefer [name_f]Agata[/name_f]? I am a bit fan of [name_f]Agathe[/name_f]/Agatha, it’s elegant and fun.

I like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], although it certainly is “old-ladyish”.

Vintage names are on trend! I love [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], I think the sound is so soft and sweet. It’s a shame your DH isn’t on board.

[name_f]Martha[/name_f] strikes me as a similar sound and vibe but a less “old lady-ish” name, maybe he’d like that? Or maybe [name_f]Ada[/name_f] / [name_f]Adaline[/name_f]?

I love the nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] better than [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. Plus, if you’re a mystery novel fan…

I prefer [name_f]Agnes[/name_f]. I like the nickname [name_f]Aggie[/name_f]!
