DH was born and raised in [name]England[/name] and I was raised primarily in [name]America[/name]. We haven’t had any real culture issues until we began TTC. I like vintage names and names that are recognizable but not popular. He likes [name]Jennifer[/name]. He thinks it’s unique, as he has never met one. I think it’s dated, as it was one of the most popular names of the '70s and '80s here in the States. Is [name]Genevieve[/name] a good compromise? They could both theoretically be called [name]Jenny[/name]/[name]Genny[/name] (although I think I prefer the nn [name]Evie[/name]). [name]Do[/name] you have any other suggestions?
I think [name]Genevieve[/name] is a great choice, here is a list of names related to [name]Jennifer[/name] according to wikipedia
English: [name]Gaenor[/name], [name]Gaynor[/name], [name]Geneva[/name], [name]Gwenevere[/name], [name]Guenevere[/name], [name]Guinevere[/name], Gwenovier, [name]Jenny[/name], Jenneigh, [name]Jennie[/name], [name]Jen[/name], [name]Jeni[/name], [name]Jenni[/name], [name]Jenn[/name], [name]Jenifer[/name], [name]Jenniffer[/name]

Portuguese: [name]Ginevra[/name] or Genebra
Serbo-Croatian: [name]Genoveva[/name]
Spanish: [name]Ginebra[/name] or Genebra
Welsh: Gwenhwyfar
They have [name]Genevieve[/name] on the list but I’m not sure it’s right, I don’t know much about most of those names but there are some nice sounding choices, I especially like [name]Ginevra[/name] and [name]Geneva[/name]
First I want to say that I find it fascinating that he has never met a [name]Jennifer[/name]. Second, I do think [name]Genevieve[/name] is a good compromise or even [name]Jenna[/name] maybe.
[name]Juniper[/name]! Hands down.
I second that
Thanks, Berries. I do love [name]Genevieve[/name], but it’s really nice to have other ideas in case DH nixes it. I’m really liking [name]Juniper[/name]! I hadn’t thought of that one. I love nature names, and it’s got the same sort of flow as [name]Jennifer[/name] has. Thanks so much, tammylou & bluejuniper
I love [name]Genevieve[/name]! I think it would be a great compromise.
I think [name]Genevieve[/name] is the perfect solution. You could also go with [name]Virginia[/name], nicknamed [name]Ginny[/name], or just [name]Jenna[/name].
[name]Love[/name] the nn, [name]Evie[/name] (I can’t use it though :(. Lol). I like [name]Genevieve[/name] more than [name]Jennifer[/name] of course. Lol. But they are similar :).
What about [name]Gemma[/name]? It would really stand out in the states.
[name]Genevieve[/name] is lovely. The patron saint of [name]Paris[/name], quite a classy namesake.
Also, for the “[name]Jen[/name]” element:
[name]Geneva[/name]
Ginerva
[name]Eugenia[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
Jenness
[name]Genesis[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] / [name]Virginie[/name]
Same flow:
[name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Lavender[/name]
[name]Sojourner[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name]
I agree with the previous posters, [name]Juniper[/name] or how about [name]Jensen[/name] or [name]Jennica[/name]?
i like jenna
[name]Genevieve[/name] is a beautiful name and a wonderful compromise. Sweet, fresh, classy!
My daughter is named [name]Jennings[/name], which is a family name, but has always gone by [name]Jenny[/name]. I think it suits her perfectly now (in elementary school), but I like that she has the option of a more “formal” name when she gets older. Bonus: she is the only “[name]Jenny[/name]” we’ve ever met who is her age. While tons of her friends’ mothers are “[name]Jens[/name]” and “Jennys”, it’s nice that she’s the only one in her school/church/team, etc. All that to say, whatever long-form name you use, I’m a fan of the [name]Jenny[/name] nickname
some alternate spellings:
[name]Jenifer[/name]
[name]Jennipher[/name]
Jenipher
Gennipher
[name]Gennifer[/name]
Jennyfer
Jennypher
Gennyfer
Gennypher
Genipher
Yes, [name]Jennifer[/name] was popular in the 70’s and 80’s…but you can hardly find any little girls named [name]Jennifer[/name] these days. I have yet to meet anyone 15 and under who’s name is [name]Jennifer[/name]. I do know one who’s an older teen and even she has never met another [name]Jennifer[/name] her age. Because it’s ‘out of style’ now, it wouldn’t be such a terrible choice…and it still sounds pretty! But then again, I might be biased (because it’s my name)!
My favorite alternative is [name]Guinevere[/name]!
Funnily enough the only [name]Jennifer[/name] I know is an eight year old. It obviously didn’t take off in the UK quite the same way, so I think his never knowing a [name]Jennifer[/name] and thinking it unique isn’t completely alien.
If you’re living in the States, I can see why you wouldn’t want to use it, but I think it could actually be quite nice to see on a child again. She’s definitely not going to be [name]Jennifer[/name] X in the class, and it’s a pretty name.
I second the vote for [name]Gemma[/name], I find it really pretty.
I think you will find [name]Juniper[/name]/[name]Jennifer[/name]/[name]Guinevere[/name] (can be said to) have similar origins if that helps that arguments with your husband.
As a [name]Jennifer[/name] (who goes by Jenzie since I am from the [name]Jennifer[/name] craze) I think it’s an awesome name and I would love to go by [name]Jen[/name] or [name]Jennifer[/name] if there wasn’t so many other [name]Jens[/name] and Jennifers! Since it is rarely used I think you should use it! It’s a wonderful name. [name]Alas[/name], I do love [name]Guinevere[/name] & [name]Juniper[/name] as alternates.
