Hello, I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Anna[/name_f] (pronounced Ah-Na, like [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f] from Frozen) but there is a problem, which is that I live in [name_u]America[/name_u] where the name would always be pronounced the other way (like An-ah). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you still think I should use it? [name_u]Or[/name_u] do you think people would always mispronounce it to the point where it was just frustrating?

I think it’s usable! I would probably pronounce it ANN-ah at first (though with the [name_f]Ana[/name_f] spelling I would assume Ah-na) but it’s an easy correction and I think people will remember once they learn.

I agree with @EagleEyes. I’d instinctively pronounce Ana this way. Anna I would pronounce ANN-ah. You’d probably have to correct a majority of people initially, but it’s easy enough to remember after that.

Here usually ah-nah is [name_f]Ana[/name_f] and the other pronounciation is [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but it can vary.

I think most people would instinctively say ANN-ah in the US, but [name_f]Ana[/name_f] I think would probably work for that pronunciation. I know someone who has a daughter named Onnah pronounced AH-na.
I knew someone named [name_f]Ana[/name_f] who said it the way you’d like. I don’t think anyone would instinctively say [name_f]Anna[/name_f] that way but it would be an easy enough correction to say “like Frozen”.

I knew an [name_f]Anna[/name_f] who pronounced her name that way. Some people called her Ann-a at first, but after she corrected them, no one had a problem calling her Ah-nah. It’s a pretty name!
Honestly I feel like you’ll correct people if you go with a remotely different or differently pronounced name. I have a different name and so does my daughter. It’s not the end of the world. Actually makes for good conversation!

I definitely think it’s beautiful, but I think it would be pronounced wrong at first by almost everyone. If it was spelled [name_f]Ana[/name_f], I would be more likely assume it was pronounced like [name_f]Princess[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f].
I never knew people pronounced Anna this way until Frozen. I think Ana would get you that pronunciation more easily. Anna seems to be Anne-uh for most in the US.
Though for me and my family, Anna is Ah-nuh (first A like Albert)

I think it might be a constant source of frustration… On the other hand, I don’t think [name_f]Anya[/name_f] would have problems…
I have a friend [name_f]Ana[/name_f] who goes by the pronunciation you’re looking for.
Use it anyways!!! Americans may pronounce it wrong, but once they are corrected, I think a lot of them will remember the pronunciation (in part thanks to Anna from Frozen - I’d remember a girl named Anna pronounced Ah-nah because of Frozen)!
so my name is anna (pronounced ann-uh) and people actually pronounce my name ah-nah a lot more than you’d think! i get a pretty even ratio of ann-uh’s to ah-nuh’s on a daily basis, and tbh, i think you could name your daughter anna without people getting her name wrong all the time. if you like the name, use it!

I would spell it differently. [name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Anah[/name_f], [name_f]Ahna[/name_f], [name_f]Onna[/name_f].
Same here. “My” Anna was well before Frozen, as well. If anything I think it would be easier now.
