@northernlights, I felt the exact same way when I was pregnant w/ my 2nd; I felt super guilty because I was not even thinking much about my pregnancy. When you have one child already, you’re just focused on them. I think a lot of people have those feelings with a subsequent pregnancy.
We haven’t told our kids yet. I think we will tell them relatively soon. We’re going to visit family for a week in MI, and after that maybe we’ll spill the beans. Two of my cousins are getting married (not to each other, haha) and I don’t want to overshadow their big day(s) in any way while we’re there. Anyway, I feel like my boys will be happy either way, and my daughter will be annoyed either way (she decidedly doesn’t want any more siblings, not even a sister!). Fingers crossed that there aren’t too many tears shed.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all, just checking in. [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to hear there have been some sneak peeks of healthy little babies!
I’m having a pretty rough time of it at the moment. I’m feeling nauseous every minute of the day and it’s. just. so. hot. I’m really struggling with the heat and trying to stay upbeat all the time for two excited toddlers who just want to run and play and shriek all day long!
Sorry for the rant. [name_m]Add[/name_m] me to the list of people excitedly waiting for the 2nd trimester! 10+3 now and I felt ill until 16 weeks last time, so it still feels like a long road ahead…
So sorry about the horrible nausea, @katinka! If I had to pinpoint the worst part of pregnancy it would be that. I have been unable to keep anything down myself and the nausea and heartburn have been plaguing me. I have been drinking plenty of coconut water though which has been great at keeping me hydrated and a tiny bit of plain crackers here and there.
As for names I think we have a nice list going for boys which I don’t think has room for growing: [name_m]Felix[/name_m], [name_m]Edmund[/name_m], [name_m]Franklin[/name_m], [name_m]Eugene[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m], [name_m]Harry[/name_m] and [name_m]Caspian[/name_m].
And for girls I simply cannot decide between [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. We’ve also been smitten with [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_f]Eugenia[/name_f], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] (I don’t mind it’s popularity at all), [name_f]Maxima[/name_f] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f], so I have a feeling a girl would be harder to name. We have also been debating on [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]/[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] which has always been “the perfect name” but that we had bestowed on the baby girl we lost. We’re wondering whether or not we could still use it despite everything…
What about you, @katinka? Still have your heart set on [name_f]Anouk[/name_f]? I absolutely love it BTW, and think it’s perfect with J and K’s names.
Ooh, what a stunning list! I especially love [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] for boys and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] and [name_f]Frida[/name_f] for girls, but all truly gorgeous.
I also absolutely adore [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], but totally understand your mixed feelings on that. I’m sorry to hear about your loss.
As for us, we’re all set for a boy. I’ll keep that a secret since we only have the one name; it’s a longtime love that I can’t see us wavering on.
For a girl, I keep going round and round with our shortlist of [name_f]Anouk[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Ramona[/name_f]. I feel like there are pluses and minuses to them all, and I’d love to use them all! Sigh.
Other loves that haven’t quite made it to the shortlist (yet) are [name_f]Clover[/name_f], [name_f]Ines[/name_f], [name_f]Ismay[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], Mabli, [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], [name_f]Sunday[/name_f], [name_m]Sol[/name_m]… why are there so many wonderful girl names to choose from?!
@katinka, I am so sorry, that is the worst feeling. I know you say you felt like that until 16w last time, but at the point you’re at (10+3) they say the nausea should start to decline. That’s what I’m telling myself, anyway (I’m only 9w though, haha). “It’s getting better from here, it’s all getting better from here…”. People are reluctant sometimes to take the anti-nausea meds, but I could not have survived my last pregnancy without them.
@thomasina, I really like your boy name list! Especially since we have a [name_m]George[/name_m], and [name_m]Franklin[/name_m] is on my shortlist (not sure if DH will go for it) if it’s a boy. Actually, your girl name list is awesome, too. [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] is one that I’ve been eyeing since I have a brother named [name_u]Max[/name_u] whom I adore; it’s so spunky and cute. [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] are so lovely, too. So many good choices. Can’t wait to see what you choose!
So I’m by myself for the weekend—an amazing thing. My DH took the littles and went down to pick up the big kids from camp, so I have the next two days to myself. Cue angels singing. I was bored last night (also an amazing sensation), so I took to the internet to try to make sense of the very-unscientific [name_m]Ramzi[/name_m] [name_m]Theory[/name_m]. From my u/s at 8w0d (which is admittedly a little bit late for [name_m]Ramzi[/name_m]), placental formation appears to be happening on the right (which is actually the left, due to it being an abdominal scan)…so, the coin flip says: could be a GIRL. I might die of excitement if this is true.
Top names if I had to pick today:
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_f]Adele[/name_f] (“[name_f]Tibby[/name_f]” or “Tibs” or “[name_u]Tab[/name_u]”)
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] (“[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]”)
Hoping all of you can experience some peace and zen going into the second trimester
Name talk has been going pretty smoothly & much easier than I thought it would. My partner and I have very similar naming styles, which has been a blessing, really. The biggest hurdle has been to rein it in and not get too unusual, since the twins will be joining an older half-brother and we want the overall sibset to be cohesive.
So, joining their older brother [name_m]Malachi[/name_m], we have the contenders:
g- [name_f]Elisheba[/name_f], [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f], [name_f]Taraja[/name_f], [name_f]Kalila[/name_f]
b- Issachar, [name_u]Jericho[/name_u], Naashon, [name_m]Gavril[/name_m]
I’m sure there will be more added to the list, but having a few names so far that we like was a pleasant surprise.
I’m personally loving [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f] & [name_u]Jericho[/name_u] at the moment.
10+1 and add me to the list of people eagerly awaiting 2nd trimester! Last few weeks have been really tough.
I am taking an overseas trip with my mum and sister next week (booked 10 months ago) and I feel bad because I’m dreading it… any tips for 24 hours on a plane?! I will get to break the news to them in person though, so that’s exciting!
On the name front we are still negotiating, haha. Honestly our shortlist is still about 10 of each. I think I am quite set on girl’s name ([name_f]Norah[/name_f]) but haven’t found “the one” for a boy yet.
@mill1020 I love both of your options! We actually considered [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] for [name_u]Kit[/name_u], but decided it’s a bit too much name for our rather long and stately-sounding surname. [name_f]Tibby[/name_f] is an adorable nickname, and I have to confess that I have a real soft spot for [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] too.
@al.vy [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know they’ll be BG twins already? [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Zipporah[/name_f] and [name_u]Jericho[/name_u] together — how incredible would that be?! My other faves are [name_f]Elisheba[/name_f] and Issachar (I’ve never heard of the latter before but am really liking it).
@jessiemxo [name_f]Norah[/name_f] is really lovely! I also adore [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] for girls and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_u]Jude[/name_u], [name_u]Ennis[/name_u] (hardly ever see this!), [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] and (of course) [name_u]Kit[/name_u] for boys… so basically all of them, haha.
What awesome name lists you guys all have! Lots of my favourites mentioned (great minds!) but sadly not ones I can use. I’ll have to live vicariously through you lot!
[name_f]Frida[/name_f] is my absolute number one girls name, followed by [name_f]Odette[/name_f], but my OH vetoed both - and pretty much everything else I’m kind of in mourning for my extensive, lovingly compiled, years in the making list, all of which has gone straight out the window now there’s a second person with a say! We have very different girls name styles so I think it might be tough. One name we’ve found recently that we both quite like is [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u], so for now that’s our list although I’m definitely hoping to add some more! It’s very different from the names I usually like but there’s something that really appeals to me about it.
We’re doing slightly better on boys. [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] is the current number one, closely followed by [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m]. We’ve loved both for ages, but now there’s an actual baby on the way we’re starting to worry whether they’re just too much name? I don’t know. I don’t want to chicken out of a name we love and then regret it, but I also don’t want to saddle a child with an over the top name. Recently we’ve been discussing less… weighty? (not sure if that’s what I mean) names including [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_m]Angus[/name_m] (a family name). [name_u]Robin[/name_u] especially has been getting a lot of air time. But we’re still far from decided. We also love [name_m]Innes[/name_m] (a variant of [name_m]Angus[/name_m]), but are worried it will always get mistaken for [name_f]Ines[/name_f].
@jessiemxo: tbh, I may have just decided against an overseas trip due to being pregnant. It’s time for our yearly visit to see my parents in Germany and I’ve been struggling with the decision for a long time. But I simply don’t have it in me right now. I also have a bunch of other stuff going on though. I hope you’ll find it in you to go and enjoy your trip… I’d suggest bringing sea bands!!
I am 10 weeks today! I had my MC at 11 weeks last time, so I’m counting down the days until I’m past that date. I’m also finally seeing my OB next week, which will ease my mind hopefully. Can’t wait to hear heartbeat and get reassurance that everything is okay.
THANKS to whoever started the name conversation! I force-started the conversation at our home tonight. We haven’t discussed names in earnest since I was pregnant with our first one- I may have overdone it then bc my poor husband has been name-avoidant ever since.
Well, he suggested [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and our son suggested my dad’s name! I’m impressed with both of them
I announced that I would like to find a Slavic name this time around. We also discussed honor names, my biggest name regret being not having used one from my family last time. This will likely be our last child, so I’ll have to check all my boxes this time around!!
For a girl, [name_f]Zora[/name_f] is my current favorite. I think last time I mentioned it (a while ago), husband was not a huge fan, so we’ll see what happens this time around.
For a boy, I got nothin’! Same as last time, actually Boy names are really hard for me.
@lirio [name_f]Frida[/name_f] is a real favourite of mine too, what a shame your husband doesn’t like it. But [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]!!! I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] that name, it’s really been on my mind lately, though we can’t really use botanical names with our surname. It definitely gets a big thumbs up from me!
[name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], [name_u]Robin[/name_u] and [name_m]Innes[/name_m] are firm favourites of mine too… and another considering [name_u]Kit[/name_u]! It seems like everyone on NB is thinking about it at the moment, I hope there isn’t a huge [name_u]Kit[/name_u] influx, haha Also, if it helps, I love your longer, more weighty front runners and they have the benefit of lighter, cuter nicknames like [name_m]Woody[/name_m] and [name_m]Pip[/name_m]/[name_m]Pippin[/name_m] too, if you wanted to go down that route. You can’t go wrong with options!
@vc2013 [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] is great! And [name_f]Zora[/name_f] is beautiful too, lovely imagery.
Well, I think I wished too hard for symptoms. Raging headache all day today (I’m assuming hormonal) followed by all-afternoon nausea and two bouts of vomiting, then a sobbing meltdown in the shower about how I won’t be a good mum for the next however many weeks because [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] was sat in front of the TV almost all day today because I just could not. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you do this with a toddler?!
Anyway, sorry to all those in the midst of nausea. It is hell!! So glad I have that perscription to fill if I need it. I think I’m going to need it.
For names we’re still not decided. I got a lot of great suggestions on the boy name thread I posted, but DH is still feeling pretty average about all of them. We are terrible at boy names! Right now our top pick would still probably be [name_u]Sullivan[/name_u], or [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] for a girl. Not sure about middles yet.
Oh I’m so sorry you’re there right now! I had those days for sure and asked myself the same question.
I bought my son kinetic sand, which has helped on a few days. I also ask him to build me something out of LEGO, so he goes and does that and when he’s done, he comes a shows me. And we’ve watched nature documentaries on YouTube while I was bedridden. Puzzles would be another idea, but of course it depends on your kid’s temperament and what they like to do…
Hey everyone…
I’ll have my sonogram on the 6th but blood test confirmed I am indeed pregnant.
It’s going to be a rollercoaster of an emotional mess this pregnancy around as I got my BFP the 1 month we didn’t try as I had just been diagnosed with pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. (They were scheduled to be removed tomorrow but now it’s hopefully going to be able to wait till 6weeks post delivery). Needless to say DH and I are both super excited but also a little freaked out and concerned about the situation.
If I did the math right (and the sono should confirm next week) [name_u]Baby[/name_u]’ would be due around [name_u]March[/name_u] 21st, 2019.
Congrats and welcome, @lexiem! I’m sorry this pregnancy comes at such a worrying time for you, but wish you all the best for a healthy pregnancy and quick recovery after the birth.
@northernlights It’s tough being pregnant with older kids; that’s hit me hard too this pregnancy. Be kind to yourself and recognise that this won’t be forever and it’s not the end of the world if Peppa Pig helps out a bit more often than normal in the next few weeks!
[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! We went in for our scan on Friday and it so happens that baby is measuring a bit ahead than I imagined, so we are now 10 weeks and 4 days, making my due date [name_f]February[/name_f] 20th 2019. I thought that the due date would fall towards the very end of [name_f]February[/name_f], about the 26th or 27th… The heartbeat was great to hear and very emotional for me since my nausea and morning sickness sort of disappeared a few days before the scan and I thought we were going to lose him/her. My next appointment is at 12 weeks with my doctor. I’m feling very positive this time around and I think the fact that I was able to deliver [name_f]Odilia[/name_f] safe and sound and with a relatively smooth pregnancy, I’m confident this baby and I will be just fine.
Another thing that’s on my mind lately and that my husband and I have been discussing is a return to the Czech Republic for good. He applied for a really good job there and we would all benefit from being closer to [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] and [name_m]Lukas[/name_m] who live there. I would be honestly very relieved to deliver our baby in Prague because the health system is spectacular and free, and I worry that with me being an older mom complications could arise and medical bills in this country could sky rocket, and we really don’t have that kind of money right now. If we were to move to Prague it would have to be in [name_f]September[/name_f]. It’s very close and we would have to put our current home on the market to purchase a nice apartment with more rooms there, which means paying rent for a while until things are settled. Lots to decide upon!
We don’t know genders yet, hopefully finding out this Friday! We do know that they’ll probably be fraternal twins though (we for sure thought they’d be identical since twins don’t run in our families). I’m secretly wishing for a g/g pair, though I’ll be happy no matter the gender.
Those are also my 4 favorites from the list we’ve created so far! They’re all biblical names, which seems to be largely the category of names my partner and I both really love.
As for every day life, I feel like I’ve doubled in size this week lol. Having to adjust my lessons & schedule at work has been overall pretty inconvenient, but (luckily) it’s only temporary until my schedule changes on the the 11th.
With our next scan so close & being approved for the apartment we wanted, I don’t think anything can really break my giddiness this week.
@northernlights. Your [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] is just a little older than my [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] and I get you. We have days where we just spend all day in front of the TV because I’m exhausted and this way I can curl up with her and nap while she stays out of trouble. I had forgotten about how exhausted I was last time around and also nauseated/not wanting to eat. (I mean the second isn’t bad at all but the fact that I am makes the exhaustion worst cause I know I’m not getting enough fuel to get me through the day). I think I need to start planning more art activities where I just need to sit at the table with her and help a little while she explores - finger paints in the bathtub are a favorite of mine. Super easy to clean up once done!
@katinka: Thanks for the welcome! [name_m]Ah[/name_m] yes, this pregnancy will be a roller coaster to say the least!
