Hopping on to say, from my experience there wasn’t a whole lot of difference in the more expensive vs cheaper cribs unless that’s what they’ll be sleeping in right from the start. With our 2nd we decided to spend more money on whatever they’ll sleep in when they’re in your room at the beginning (bassinet/ Co sleeper/ pack n play etc.) It was worth it to make those early postpartum days easier. And didn’t make much of a difference when they moved into the crib.
This!! Same here. I invested in a bassinet that was almost as expensive as the crib its self and it was worth it for convenience and peace of mind in the early months!! And that I will be able to reuse for every baby.
We went for a quite expensive bedside crib, mostly because we’re using furniture as a way to stop people buying clothes… our bedside crib was £270 with all the sheets etc.
Our nursery crib/toddler bed (it converts) is coming free from a colleague of mine and its really not our style but we weren’t going to say no to the free bed!
Thanks for all the responses! One thing I can’t say for sure is whether he’s going to have a little sibling down the road, so this crib might get used only once.
I think I’m leaning towards the fancier crib, partially because I’ve been so practical with my other registry items. This can be the one splurge… ![]()
Last night [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] jumpscared me… it’s not like I forget I’m pregnant, but when he is asleep and still for a long time, I’m not expecting to get kicked. So I was lying in bed thinking about what I needed to get done when out of nowhere he delivers this massive kick to my right side where my hand was on my belly.
[name_m]Little[/name_m] stinker couldn’t even warm up with some light jabs!
i actually jumped a little and gasped because it kinda spooked me in that half second before realizing it was him and not me getting punched by a ghost or something else ![]()
Hahaha, I love that! ![]()
Had my 28 week appointment on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f], and after a ROUGH and tumultuous second trimester, it was such a good appointment and a welcome relief.
CBC shows I’m anemic—which isn’t a surprise, my iron is usually low even when I’m not pregnant—so I do have to be on supplements for the remainder of pregnancy. But luckily my body is tolerating that way better than it did in the first trimester/early second trimester. I’m unable to do the glucola drink, so we checked my sugars with a glucose monitor in office 2 hours after breakfast & a sugar filled orange juice and then took my A1C as well. The glucose monitor was normal but A1C was a tiny bit elevated (normal range maxes at 5.7%, mine was 5.9%). [name_m]Doctor[/name_m] said not to worry and we’ll do a fasting A1C next appointment, but he doesn’t suspect GD.
And to top off that good news: since I haven’t had any new or concerning symptoms since my L&D trip 2 weeks ago (in fact the concerning symptoms have resolved), and since I’m now in third trimester, my doctor officially took me off pelvic rest & we are reevaluating my modified bed rest!! Obviously still have to take it easy and monitor my body, but that was such a nice treat after spending nearly 10 whole weeks on pelvic rest and feeling like I couldn’t do anything in my normal routines.
[name_f]Baby[/name_f] girl is measuring right on based on fundal height and even gave a strong kick to my doctor when he tried to get the measurement. And doctor made me feel great about my body (I’ve been dealing with massive dysmorphia the last few weeks bc of the weight gain) and said “oh that’s all baby in there, I don’t feel any soft spots”.
Now we get to officially move on to appointments every 2 weeks! Next appointment we’ll be discussing birth plan—I’m very much a go with the flow person, but I’m hoping to get in the books for a c section around 38+2 if baby girl doesn’t decide to come on her own by then. [name_f]My[/name_f] office usually shoots for 39 weeks, but with being due so close to the holidays I’m hoping they’ll let that slide… and if they do, that will put us just after Thanksgiving and 3 weeks out from [name_m]Christmas[/name_m].
Yay, I’m glad to hear that a lot of the scary symptoms have passed and things are going well for you & baby girl ![]()
31 weeks and getting to the point of being a bit done with being pregnant
obviously I would very much like baby to stay in there and cook a bit more so they can be good and healthy when they come out. But if we could perhaps speed up that time a bit so I don’t have to deal with this for another 6-11 weeks, that’d be great.
Our boiler is broken (we have no heating and it’s about to be [name_f]October[/name_f]
) so we need to get a new one, the car needs to go into the garage, we need to find time to pick up the cot/s and travel system, and I am getting increasingly tired/unable to do things. I’m so excited to meet this baby, but I am also absolutely excited to no longer be pregnant!
No huge updates here, but I had my second glucose test and urine screens for protein, and those turned out fine, so we are still rocking with no gestational diabetes or blood pressure-related issues. I feel like at this point that probably means it won’t happen, considering I’m now third trimester, so cue sigh of relief. I think I’ve been apprehensive because my doctors have always been so vocal about the pregnancy being high risk due to my weight, but thankfully all seems well.
Aches and pains are starting to set in more lately, mostly left hip, low back, and a lot of stretching/aching type pain in the belly. Also, [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] has become a lot feistier with his kicks, sometimes to a point where that too is uncomfortable… I love to know he’s moving but he has found a few spots that hurt to get hit.
Lastly I have been doing a lot of shopping/window shopping for him, and finally picked out my breast pump. The store clerk was very informative, and between her and the other mom I met in the store, I feel a lot less clueless about pumping and upkeep like washing the parts. Now I just need to get going with labor and newborn classes.
Can’t believe we’re all in the third trimester already now, it seems like those early days aren’t that far behind.
Updates… well, I’m pretty pissed this morning. I just got back from my appointment, which went well, except that I was supposed to do my glucose test and something is wrong with their system. [name_m]Lucky[/name_m] for me it’s time-sensitive, so I’d have to retake the drink all over again. I’m already worried I might have GD, so I just want to get the test over with. I asked if I could do it before my MFM appointment tomorrow, but the soonest they could schedule it is [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] morning. So that means three days in a row going to the hospital. ![]()
[name_f]Baby[/name_f] boy seems doing good. Kicks a lot but nothing too painful for me so far. Definitely get a lot more aches and back pain though. I also wish this last couple months could go faster, lol.
We did some shopping recently and will start organizing his nursery (baby dragon theme) soon-ish. Booked a couple preparation classes too, so hopefully soon enough I’ll feel less unprepared.
Aww I love the idea of a baby dragon theme, that’s one I haven’t seen before! Too bad on your glucose test, but as someone who had to redo my test due to a mess up on the labs end, I wouldn’t recommend it! ![]()
[name_m]Will[/name_m] say this second test (technically 3rd time drinking the liquid) was better because I had a different flavor. The one this time was fruit punch.
I know, right? The choice is both for TV series I watch and the Chinese year of dragon, lol. We’re getting a lot of dragon stuffed animals, sheet and decor, etc from baby shower. They’re all so cute.
Ouch, sorry to hear you had to redo the test because of them. Mine is orange flavored. I actually don’t mind the drink itself, just the fast (I have excessive thirst problem) and the fact that I need to go back to the hospital again on different day. Fingers crossed there will be no more issue next time!
Things here have settled down. I’m managing my diet and my blood sugar numbers are looking good so far. And we’re getting ready to paint the nursery this weekend. Lots of prep work, but I’m excited to see how it looks when it’s done!
It’s so wild that we’re at that stage where nursery prep is a thing, but exciting!
I’ve had a productive couple of days. Found an incredible deal on Craigslist for nursery furniture and got a convertible crib (crib-toddler bed-full size bed), nightstand plus dresser from a bougie brand for cheap. The retail price for the set would’ve been more than 1k over what I paid…
it was a lucky find considering everything is in mint condition and not marked down for wear/tear or something.
Then my mom and I went shopping and found nursing friendly pajamas for my hospital stay and a cute dress for baby shower. Still need to pack a proper hospital bag but I think me and little guy now have all the clothing we need at least.
Lastly [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] had a 3d scan and it was honestly the sweetest experience I’ve ever had. I think I see some features in his face that look like they might be mine
and some unfamiliar (nose seems different than any in our family so I’m guessing that’s from his donor).
We have a very gentle theme that is (again, loosely) British wildlife - so foxes, hedgehogs, rabbits, kingfishers, magpies etc. Lots of variation so we’re not going strong into one specific animal or big theme. The room is white and a deep orange (sort of halloween-y, but more sunset/less vibrant).
Had a midwife visit this week where the measurements were seemingly off and suggested baby wasn’t growing properly, so I was sent for a growth check scan. Baby is absolutely fine! And quite big - actually about 75th-80th percentile (current estimate is 1.9kg, I don’t know what measurement non-Brits/Europeans use?). Rollercoaster of a week emotionally, but good to know baby as is fine and a nice excuse to see them again because I wouldn’t have had another scan at all otherwise. Baby is consistently uncooperative in scans - moving just after the sonographer has found the right view, they love resting with their hand over their face, they like to not quite be the right way up/twisted slightly (nothing concerning for delivery, but annoying for scan purposes!).
We start our antenatal classes next week and have been put into a whatsapp chat with the other people who are in our set of classes (6 evening classes over 6 weeks). Everyone is introducing themselves with due date etc. So far there are 8 couples including us - five of the couples are expecting boys (including one set of identical twin boys!) and then there are three of us having surprises, so there could be more boys. So many boys!
Wow that’s a ton of boys! I know in this thread we’re going pretty even, so it’s going to be fun to see what your little one turns out to be!
Had my 30 week appointment on [name_m]Thursday[/name_m] and everything is looking great. We did a repeat glucose screening since my A1C was high and that looked good— no GD for me!
Well, I do have GD. Not fun. Not especially when I already have thyroid issue as well. I’ve come to the acceptance phase when it comes to monitoring blood sugar four times a day, but needing to watch carb intake is stressful. For now I was told not to restrict too much if it stresses me out and that it’s ok “experiment” first what my body can take, but I guess I’ll see what’s next.
I’ll be 30 week tomorrow. 3 different appointments the following week. Fingers crossed there will be no more surprises.
That’s so frustrating @luneth, fingers crossed it is absolutely temporary and in 7-12 weeks you’ll have a baby and be able to eat as many carbs as you want!
We bought out first baby clothes today and met up with some friends who have a 17mo and have given us their neutral clothes as well as a bouncer, bath, feeding pillows, and play mat. Which is so lovely of them. The deal is that we can have them for no cost at all as long as we promise to give them back if/when they have another. Which seems like a very fair deal to us!
So we’ve gone from having no clothes to two big bags full
need to wash them and get the room sorted, and probably start thinking about a hospital bag - 33 weeks today and no free weekends left
But only 4 weeks of work to go!
