My daughter had 3 epigastric hernias she had to have surgically repaired. But when we went to meet with the surgeon he said if they had been an umbilical hernia (that’s what we thought she had) they wouldn’t have done the surgery unless it had signs of strangulation, they dont like to do the surgery before 5 years old if they dont have to as it has a greater risk of failing and reherniating. So if it isn’t getting stuck (hers wasnt popping back in when she laid down in her back and getting stuck in the out position), they probably will put it off if they can.
With that being said it really was a quick in and out surgery and my daughter was back on her feet by that evening and had to take very little pain meds for it. It barely seemed to bother her.
