Pretty much as title. Our baby boy was born a week ago and we are drawing a total blank on names…
Looking for something a little unusual and quirky but equally something timeless that won’t date too much.
We’re British so nothing too American.
Already have 2 boys: [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] ([name_m]Oliver[/name_m]) and [name_u]Indy[/name_u] ([name_u]Indiana[/name_u]) so something that compliments…
Surname starts with an ‘eh’ (like elephant) which rules lots of names out…
Names we like but have ruled out:
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m] - love it but it doesn’t seem to fit with the other 2 and not sure how it would abbreviate
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] - love the meaning and vibe but don’t like the fact it’s one syllable
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] - again 1 syllable and ends with a consonant which doesn’t work well with our surname
[name_m]Koa[/name_m] - bit too unusual
[name_u]River[/name_u] - we love but have close friends who have named their son this so it feels wrong
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u] - too common and popular
[name_u]Austin[/name_u] - don’t want another American place name and not keen on abbreviations
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - love but hate [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m]/[name_m]Atticus[/name_m] - love [name_f]Atti[/name_f] but these both seem a little too pretentious
Oh and my personal favourite is Appo (I had a great friend many years ago called Appo and have loved it ever since) but hubby isn’t keen and completely vetoed [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] and [name_m]Apollinaire[/name_m] as full names
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_u]Theo[/name_u] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] I seem to teach every year so too common for my liking…
Doesn’t work with our surname unfortunately. [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] and [name_u]Indy[/name_u] work because of the “ee” ending… ideally I think it needs to end with an ah, er or vowel
What about [name_u]August[/name_u]? It starts with a vowel, is similar to [name_u]Austin[/name_u] but not a place name, and it can have cute nicknames like [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. And I think it would go well with your other two kids’ names.
Ugh I definitely understand the whole thing about associations. You’ve been given a ton of suggestions so I’m not sure mine would help. One thing to do that I’m not sure if you’ve tried yet is Nameberry a name generator. I did that use your two kids names in addition to adding [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], [name_m]Barnaby[/name_m], [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] and [name_u]River[/name_u]. These were the 100 names that turned up as suggestions based on those names. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] it helps!
Congratulations for your third baby boy!
[name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] are great names!! [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u] would be awesome

Or [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] ([name_m]Gabe[/name_m]) or [name_m]Raphael[/name_m]/[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] ([name_u]Rafe[/name_u])? Similar vibe to [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] ([name_m]Nate[/name_m]).
