What are you thoughts on [name]Beau[/name] for a girl? I’ve loved it ever since I saw it used for the adorable little girl in the movie “Signs.” I like double first names, so what could [name]Beau[/name] be paired with to make it more feminine?
I love it for a boy so I never really thought of it for a girl. But I think it could work. [name]Beau[/name]-[name]Marie[/name] or [name]Beau[/name]-[name]Lynn[/name] or [name]Beau[/name]-[name]Elizabeth[/name]. Or the other way… [name]Eliza[/name]-[name]Beau[/name], [name]Anna[/name]-[name]Beau[/name], [name]Marissa[/name]-[name]Beau[/name], [name]Claudia[/name]-[name]Beau[/name], [name]Maria[/name]-[name]Beau[/name]
Personally, I don’t really care for it, especially due to the meaning. I just think it should be kept strictly male and I have a bad association with the name also. But that’s just me. Sorry to burst your bubble. Maybe with a pretty middle name it could change my mind
To me, [name]Beau[/name] is quite masculine–I’ve only met/heard of boy Beaus/Bos, and “beau” is the French masculine form of [name]Belle[/name], meaning “handsome”, so I really can’t see anything girly about it. I think it could be a cool nn, though–for something like [name]Isabeau[/name] or [name]Ambrosia[/name] or something, or even the initials [name]BO[/name] (like [name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Olive[/name] or [name]Bryony[/name] [name]Odette[/name] or [name]Bethany[/name] [name]Olivia[/name], etc.).
[name]Beau[/name] is all male to me, however, as a nickname to [name]Isabeau[/name], it could be super-darn-gorgeous! [name]Isabeau[/name] “[name]Beau[/name]” [name]Louise[/name] would be lovely.
I have fallen for [name]Bo[/name], since becoming completely addicted to ‘Lost Girl’ and the gorgeous, kick-ass of a character with the same name. Personally, I’m loving [name]Bo[/name] as nickname for [name]Boheme[/name].
I don’t like [name]Beau[/name] on a girl at all. It’s all boy to me. As the poster above mentioned, [name]Bo[/name] could work as a nn for a name like [name]Boheme[/name].
I actually knew a girl named [name]Beau[/name], so I like it a lot on a girl. As kids, we all called her [name]Beau[/name]-[name]Beau[/name] - which is more of a nicknamey double-name, but you could name her just [name]Beau[/name] and then have [name]Beau[/name]-[name]Beau[/name] as a daily nn. Personally, I don’t really like [name]Beau[/name]-hyphen-name, but that’s just me
I would leave it in the middle if you’re set on using it. It’s so masculine up front. [name]Louisa[/name] [name]Beau[/name] or something would be cute.
I generally don’t have a problem with Boy’s names on Girls but this is one I can’t get my head around. Too many years of French class drilled into my head that you don’t use masculine adjectives on femine articles (and vice versa.) So for me it’s not really about [name]Beau[/name] as a name so much as misuse of [name]Beau[/name] as a word. Basically to a French speaker it would be the equivalent of naming a boy “Beautiful” only worse because it’s not only going against convention but grammatically incorrect as well.
I like it. But what about possibly switching the spelling from [name]Beau[/name], which is super boyish, to Beaux, which is french for sweet, I think. Sweet, or beautiful, or something like that. Much nicer, in my opinion. I’ve been thinking about using this myself, I love it so much!
I have heard of it, but [name]Beau[/name] means handsome and I would not someone to call my daughter handsome!!! I think [name]Belle[/name] is a much MUCH better alternative. They have a similar sound and [name]Belle[/name] means beautiful! Someone could call my daughter beautiful anytime they wanted!
This. But I love the pp’s suggestion of [name]Beau[/name]/[name]Bo[/name] as a nickname for [name]Boheme[/name] or [name]Isabeau[/name]. Or [name]Bodhi[/name]? I could see [name]Bodhi[/name] on a girl.
I love the name [name]Beau[/name] on a boy! I’m not sure on a girl? I wondered the same thing recently. I think a girl could definitely pull the name off similar to girls named [name]Drew[/name]. The meaning of the name throws if off for me though. Making it a double name, paired with a very feminine name is a great idea. [name]Mary[/name] [name]Beau[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]Beau[/name], [name]Clara[/name] [name]Beau[/name] all sound pretty [name]IMO[/name].
French is a language with grammatical gender, and “beau” is a masculine adjective. French-speakers would find it completely bizarre to call a girl [name]Beau[/name] (and would assume ignorance on the part of the parents).
Since its a masculine noun to me, I find it utterly too masculine on a girl. Plus, its a slang term for a husband or a boyfriend. However, I do love it as a nickname for [name]Isabeau[/name].
