I have daughters named Arwen (LotR) and Raven (for Ravenclaw). I’m trying to compile a list of girl names that feel “bad a$$”, magical or just dynamic due to a connection with a character, historical figure or goddess. What I have so far is below. What would you add and which ones do you like best with Arwen and Raven?
Alice
Austen (love this one, but I have a cousin named Austin and his brother is Haven)
Belle
Brigid
Clara
Cleo
Coraline
Dorothy
Echo
Elanor
Elora
Fern
Flora
Guinevere
Helena
Iris
Jane
Laurel
Lilou
Louisa
Magdalen
Olive
Persephone
Rhiannon (Raven’s second middle is Ann🫤. They just seem to have too many similarities)
River (too close to Raven?)
Rose
Ruby
Violet
Waverly (love this one, but I don’t think it works with Raven)
Of the ones you listed, [name_u]Austen[/name_u], [name_u]Echo[/name_u], [name_f]Elora[/name_f], and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] strike that same magic, particularly [name_u]Echo[/name_u] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f]. Of them, I personally would choose [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] to sib set with the others.
Some other suggestions (assuming you want a different fandom and/or mythos for the origin of this name):
Greek/Roman
[name_f]Thisbe[/name_f] (Greek myth of [name_m]Pyramus[/name_m] and Thisbe)
[name_f]Calliope[/name_f] or [name_f]Liriope[/name_f] (a muse and a nymph)
[name_f]Xena[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Ceres[/name_f]
[name_u]Joan[/name_u] (Joan of Arc)
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f] (Woolf)
[name_u]Jael[/name_u] (biblical woman who drove a tent peg through Sisera’s temple)
Absolutely LOVE [name_f]Phryne[/name_f] for you - assuming it’s a MFMM reference, another strong inspiration without overlapping with either of the sources already used for your girls. I also think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] work really well stylistically and have great origins too.
You’ve had some great suggestions already so sorry if I overlap, but how about…
@cms1512 I love [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] and I’ve actually been contemplating [name_f]Xena[/name_f]. I really like the sound of it, but is it cheesy? Also love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] Arwen’s middle name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I enjoy watching The Last Airbender and [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Korra[/name_f] with my kids, but I think I’d be more likely to use [name_f]Korra[/name_f] than [name_f]Jinora[/name_f]. Our dog’s name is [name_f]Suki[/name_f].
@Greyblue [name_f]Charis[/name_f], [name_u]Nova[/name_u], [name_u]Juniper[/name_u], [name_u]Kaya[/name_u], [name_f]Elara[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f] and [name_f]Amora[/name_f] are all great! Thanks!
@persephonescrown I love [name_f]Phryne[/name_f] too and yes, it’s for [name_f]Phryne[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]. I’m just not sure anyone else will love it. [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is unusual too, but it’s known within my family, so it made it easier to use for me. [name_f]Phryne[/name_f] isn’t known by anyone I know and I can just see the looks I’ll get which is the problem I have with a lot of these names. Maybe I’m not as brave as I was 10 years ago? I love [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f], [name_f]Sorsha[/name_f], [name_f]Sybil[/name_f], [name_f]Safira[/name_f] and [name_u]Calypso[/name_u]! Thank you!
