I was just posting about my doll names in another topic, and it made me think of these toys and the fact that they all had really unusual names (every one came with a birth certificate, so they were pre-named). At the time (1984), I remember thinking how ugly they were, but I bet they’ll fit right in with current naming trends. I did some research, and apparently the guy who created them used a 1930s baby name book so that the names stood out from people he knew (so that explains it!).
I looked online but couldn’t find a list anywhere of the names that were used, so (since I imagine many of us of childbearing age had these around that time!) I thought it might be fun to see if we could put one together here.
Mine was Shireen [name]Moira[/name] (could have been worse!)
I had quite a few, but for some reason the birth certificates always seemed to get thrown away. I had a mini one when I was two, named [name]Gretchen[/name], that I renamed [name]Corinna[/name]. When I was five I asked for a singing one for [name]Christmas[/name] and remember being sad that I got [name]Lindsay[/name], not [name]Juliana[/name] on the commercial. It wasn’t until I was older than I realized they all came with unique names.
Mine was/is [name]Genny[/name] [name]Agnes[/name], I physically still have her. I neglected to file her papers, I was kind of old for this at the time, but my mom wanted to make sure I wasn’t jealous because my sister got one. Her cabbage patch was [name]Ailsa[/name] something. My mom also got someone to sew her a lookalike soft doll. I didn’t get that. Anyway, I was kind of underwhelmed by the strangeness of a name like [name]Genny[/name]. [name]Ailsa[/name] was a household mystery - I think they settled on it being a misspelling of [name]Alisa[/name] - another tame example.
I tried looking online for Cabbage Patch Kids names from the 80’s. I only found a couple. [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Stacy[/name], [name]Lavinia[/name] [name]Loretta[/name], [name]Alana[/name] Fayme, [name]Cora[/name] [name]Tay[/name] and [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Marcheline[/name].
What a fun memory - mine were [name]Lannie[/name], [name]JoAnne[/name] and [name]Maddie[/name]. I think I remember a friend having a boy named “[name]Milo[/name]” ?
I loved my Cabbage Patch dolls. Her name is [name]Jessalyn[/name] [name]Starr[/name] (still have [name]Jessie[/name], my first and favorite). I also had a [name]Tara[/name] [name]Anne[/name], and [name]Keely[/name] [name]Eva[/name]. I had a boy too, but I remember his name being so horrible that I changed it, but I can’t remember what I changed it too.
My Cabbage Patch Kid’s name was [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Georgina[/name]. I thought it was ugly back then, but now, its not a bad name at all! The Cabbage Patch [name]Baby[/name]'s name was [name]Rosemary[/name] [name]Adeline[/name].
My cabbage patch doll was named [name]Mandy[/name] [name]Alisha[/name]. I hated the name because there was two girls in my class that were mean to me and there names were [name]Amandy[/name] and [name]Alisha[/name] i also wanto my doll to be a boy so i cut all her hair off never renamed her. I couldnt sleep with out her untill i was 15 and my friends would make fun of me. I still love her/him.
Maybe [name]Pam[/name] and [name]Linda[/name] can market pre-named “Nameberry Dolls.” Dollies dressed in Nameberry t-shirts. I think I’d buy one.

Cute idea, [name]Nephele[/name]–maybe we’ll get into some kinds of nameberry products one of these days. [name]How[/name] about I GOT MY NAME ON NAMEBERRY.COM on shirts or onesies for newborns?
aww, I wish I remembered the names of all mine.
My first one was [name]Broderick[/name] [name]Melvin[/name]. My mom changed it to [name]Melvin[/name] [name]Broderick[/name] because [name]Melvin[/name] was easier for me to say.
Then I had [name]Garth[/name] and [name]Karen[/name]…hmm I’ll try to remember the others…
My sister had one named [name]Cordelia[/name] something.
Mine was homemade (but very much loved! She was a 6th birthday present for me and now my 8 year old daughter has her…AND all her clothes in good condition).
