[name]Just[/name] curious if any other Nameberry-ites had Cabbage Patch Kids growing up. I still remember how excited I was to open up the box and open the birth certificate only to discover I was horrified at the name: [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Rorie[/name].
Funny how, as an adult, I find this to be a beautiful name. Any others remember the names of their dolls?
I was just thinking about this as someone had posted about their dilemma with the name: [name]Ansley[/name].
I had a CP doll (female) with the name [name]Ainsley[/name] (don’t recall mn).
My other doll was named: [name]Emma[/name] [name]Kelly[/name] (At the time–early '80s–, [name]Emma[/name] was still an old-lady name. I was a bit horrified by it.)
My boy CP was named: [name]Maxwell[/name] [name]Eric[/name]
I don’t remember any of my CP dolls’ given names because I would change them as soon as I got them! My first CP doll was given to me when I was about 1-1/2, and I named her [name]Nessa[/name]-Na, a contraction of my name, [name]Vanessa[/name], and what I called my Grandmother at the time, [name]NaNa[/name]. That’s the only CP doll who’s name I still remember!
Mine was [name]Genny[/name] [name]Agnes[/name]. I was somewhat disappointed that her name was [name]Genny[/name] because [name]Jenny[/name], or [name]Jennifer[/name], was still the most popular name at the time. Kind of a rip-off if you ask me! I was expecting something pretty gross. Well, [name]Agnes[/name] sort of fits that requirement. I was kind of old to get a doll by that point, but I had a younger sister and for some reason, my mom caught the craze, my sister was the right age for it, and I was convinced that I will have wanted one if I didn’t hop on the bandwagon too. I did not change the name because the whole point of them, as I understood it, was that they were already named something unique, and if you were lucky, something completely unfashionable and hopefully really disgusting. If you were too young to know this and you were upset by the ugly name, I feel like you missed out a little on the experience of owning an icon of toys, as they were marketed to be such, a little like calling [name]Barbie[/name] or Raggedy [name]Ann[/name] some other name. I also feel like the whole fad of Cabbage Patch dolls might have had a little to do with catapulting those old-fashioned names to popularity they have now, even so far as hipsters still plucking unfashionable names than the warmer, gentler rocking chair names like [name]Eleanor[/name] or [name]Emily[/name]. For any of us to consider a name like [name]Agnes[/name] now is pretty monumental a shift.
i loved loved loved my cabbage patch kids! the only one i remember the name of was my first, Joyus [name]Rissa[/name]. i think i was too young to think of naming her something else, i was told that was her name and so it was. when i was older i got like a preemie or something and it had a variety of names over the years. but the original was always Joyus [name]Rissa[/name].

I had
[name]Broderick[/name] [name]Melvin[/name]…which my mom switched to [name]Melvin[/name] so I could say his name
[name]Garth[/name]
[name]Karen[/name]
i really wish i would have kept there tags…i cant remember the others…i think one was [name]Diana[/name]
My CPK’s name is [name]Margery[/name] (cannot recall her middle name). My daughter now plays with her. I was VERY dissapointed when I discovered her name and would avoid telling friends at all costs!
When I recently went to purchase a new CPK for my daughter I was pleased to find that you can see the names on the birth certificate before you open the box. I was able to avoid all the really trendy names. Her name is [name]Elise[/name] [name]Penelope[/name].
haha brillient post, yes i had a cabbage patch kid, mine was called [name]Fiona[/name] [name]Iona[/name]!!! If you sent back their ‘birth certifcate’ you could change there names, i changed her middle name but can’t remember what i changed it to now! My sisters doll was called [name]Beatrice[/name]
I had [name]Margie[/name] [name]Adria[/name] and [name]Jane[/name] [name]Avril[/name]. My sister had [name]Bunny[/name] [name]Claire[/name]. Now that I think of it, [name]Jane[/name] [name]Avril[/name] is a pretty good name.
lol, love this post. I loved my Cabbage Patch Kids. My very first one was called [name]Georgeanne[/name] [name]Dore[/name]. I think I was about 6 when I got her. My second one was a premie and his name was [name]Felix[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]. I then got a set of twins that were in Scottish outfits. I was very disappointed with their names since I didn’t think they were very Scottish. If I remember correctly they were [name]Giselle[/name] [name]Cristabel[/name] and [name]Peggy[/name] [name]Delta[/name]. I changed their names to Annamhari (my middle name) [name]Catriona[/name] and [name]Flora[/name] [name]Fiona[/name]. I looked in a book that had scottish names in it to get them. My last one was called [name]Tanya[/name] [name]Lesley[/name], I remember being disappointed because her name seemed so “normal”. My brother also had one that was [name]Jose[/name] something or something [name]Jose[/name], he changed it to [name]George[/name] [name]Rae[/name] after our Uncle, lol.
Let’s see if I can remember them all…
[name]Charity[/name] [name]Brandy[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name] [name]Harriett[/name], [name]Thurston[/name] [name]Bud[/name], [name]Sibyl[/name] [name]Octavia[/name], [name]Abigail[/name] [name]Irene[/name], [name]May[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]. I think I got all the spellings right. I had another that was [name]Sabrina[/name], but I can’t remember her middle name. What a fun thread!
I don’t remember the middles, but my first doll was [name]Stanley[/name]. I remember thinking it was kind of a dorky name, but in a cute way. I like the name even more as an adult, although I could never use it. I also had a [name]Louis[/name], [name]Eric[/name], [name]Erika[/name], [name]Tess[/name], and a [name]Rudy[/name]. I didn’t rename any of them.
I think it is so interesting how we all remember their names so well!
The originals came out while my mother was pregnant with me… so between her and I my father ended up buying two. I don’t remember their names but my mom probably does. I’ve emailed her to find out. We only ever had those two until they brought out the 25th anniversary special edition dolls. Mom got me one to celebrate, and looked for the BIRTHDAYS on the certificate to match them as close as she could to my brother and I. As a result? I got [name]Hortense[/name] [name]Rosella[/name]. Yep. Sounds like a hacking cough and a disease!
My first one was [name]Edna[/name] [name]Patty[/name]. I just called her [name]Patty[/name], because [name]Edna[/name]… I had a preemie that was [name]Joyce[/name] [name]Sabina[/name], and a boy that was [name]Joel[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]. My last one was [name]Rosanna[/name] [name]Iris[/name], which I liked pretty well!
I don’t remember one, but my preemie was [name]Frederick[/name] [name]Hugo[/name]. I thought it was not a very nice name at the time, but now I love it!
