We’ve been going back and forth between Calandra and Callista for our second daughter, to go with big sister Seraphina.
On one hand, I think Calandra sounds a little bit better with our last name, but on the other, husband thinks the sound of Callista is a little bit prettier. However, he loves birds, so Calandra meaning “lark” appeals to him a lot. He also likes that with Seraphina meaning “fiery”, there’s a nature connection. I also knew a Calandra growing up, so I’ve had the chance to see how the name fares in real life (she didn’t seem to have any issues with it and wasn’t teased over it or anything like that, but she did go by Callie mostly). But, Callista has a Catholic saint connection like Seraphina does, with there being a St. Callistus. Regardless of the name, we’re good with the Callie nickname if it develops.
In the end, the pros and cons kind of balance out, so thoughts on either name?

I prefer [name_f]Callista[/name_f], but that’s just me. It sounds like both names could work for you! I vote [name_f]Callista[/name_f] though because I do love the saint connection. Good luck in your decision!!

i prefer callista! it’s fresher to me & has a nicer sound, plus it goes better with seraphina imo. the saint connection with seraphina & callista is a nice way to tie their names together!

Splendid name choices for both daughters I like the connection between sisters but I wouldn’t wanna force some sort of trend later down the line , I like [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] as the better option due to [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] flowing better than [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Callista[/name_f] (in my opinion)
However I can see [name_f]Callista[/name_f] as the winner since the connection seems to be there for everybody and it just has a more appealing sound (I know if I was named [name_f]Callista[/name_f] i would never not be confident lol )
I prefer the sound of [name_f]Callista[/name_f]! I had a friend named [name_f]Kallista[/name_f] when I was younger, so I think it’s usable. There’s also [name_f]Alondra[/name_f], which means lark too.
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] & [name_f]Callista[/name_f] don’t blend together like [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] & [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] do (to me) and I find them prettier together.
[name_f]Welcome[/name_f] back and congratulations!
Your choices are both gorgeous, but I’m going to throw in another vote for [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. I think the sound is softer and more delicate, but also long and strong, which pairs perfectly with big sister [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f].
There is a moon of [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u] called [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] (coincidentally, it’s the second-largest of Jupiter’s moons!) so there is a nature/night sky connection there too, as well as the saint connection.
Good luck!
I too prefer [name_f]Callista[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Calanthe[/name_f] would be even better - a great alternative to [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Calanthe[/name_f] sound perfect together!
I would go with Calandra. While Callista is beautiful as well, Calandra caught my attention immediately.
Additional pro for Calandra: a Catholic miracle
I really like both but I slightly prefer the sleek, elegant sound of [name_f]Callista[/name_f]
Echoing what others have said - both sound great with her sister’s name! I personally prefer [name_f]Calandra[/name_f], though. It sounds strong and elegant in the same way as [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], and I love the nature connection there.
Another vote for [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. I think she pairs well with [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], and I’ve always loved the meaning. [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] is lovely, but I don’t think it has the oomph that [name_f]Callista[/name_f] does.
I prefer [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. The sound is prettier imo, and I like the cool connection with Jupiter’s moon!
[name_f]Callista[/name_f] is a majestic name! It sounds beautiful next to [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] I also really like [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] for a girl
[name_f]Calandra[/name_f] sounds a little bit harsher to me, but I really like its uniqueness.
It’s definitely a tough one! Thank you!
I can definitely see the fresher feel! I do love the saint connection as well!
The nicer flow of [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] is what is keeping me from committing to [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. That and how [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] sounds with our last name. [name_f]Callista[/name_f] shares a few more sounds with our last name and is slightly more mushy, though it’s not the worst. But, you’re definitely right that a [name_f]Callista[/name_f] would definitely have a lot of confidence!
Good to hear that you know of someone who wore the name well! It always makes me feel better when people have good experiences with a name in the wild.

This was my initial thought too, and the main reason why I can’t quite let go of [name_f]Calandra[/name_f]! It is interesting that so far, most of the feedback has liked [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Callista[/name_f] together more, but I’m glad my ear isn’t the only one who thinks [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Calandra[/name_f] has a smoother flow!
Thanks for the heads up about [name_u]Jupiter[/name_u]! It’s a neat connection! I think my husband is more of a bird lover than a planet lover, but it definitely is another cool way to connect the names!
