I tried to change my profile picture, but there is no option for that. Only the option to switch to the default pp is there, so I clicked that and now I can’t switch back to the old one.

I believe they said at this time they do not intend to bring that feature back, somehow being connected to the decision to no longer allow pictures to be uploaded to the forum. I think maybe more about it can be found here[name_f][/name_f], but it hasn’t really been outright explained anywhere else that I have seen. If you have any specific questions you may try sending a DM to a mod or admin

if you look at the discourse help forums, it seems to be a known issue where if you disable uploading photos, users are no longer able to upload profile pictures. based on this thread[name_f][/name_f] though (someone says “We as admins can change users’ profile pictures but regular users strangely cannot.”) i wonder if admins could change profile pictures, as a workaround? i’m not sure this is applicable to the Nameberry settings, or plausible as it would be extra work for the admins, just thought i might mention it

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know why they made these changes and aren’t planning on “fixing” the profile picture thing? I haven’t changed my pic in years (despite not loving it, haha), but it’s sad seeing the users profiles turn into simple letters on colored backgrounds. Obviously, I get the reason for not having photos on the forums anymore, despite wishing it didn’t have to be like that, but so many other sites have profile pictures. No worries if not, and I’m not mad about it or anything, just curious on the reasoning and if we’ll ever have those options back!

I don’t have the very latest information so if other admins want to jump in and correct me that’s totally fine.
[name_f][/name_f]Basically had to get rid of pictures for the legal reasons as you know. This inadvertently took away pfps. There are big changes coming to Nameberry and the Forums, so the energy is being focused there. I presume that profile pictures will be back at some point though.

I am reading up on how to change profile pics from the admin side (thank you @lagoon_moth !) and I want to give it a try - does someone want to be the guinea pig? 
If anyone is open to volunteering let me know and I’ll have you send over your profile pic of choice. Important note: I would only volunteer if you currently do not have a profile pic, because if this does not work I can’t guaruntee I would be able to put back your old one!
If this works out I may be able to help people change their profile pics on request.

I would love to see this return, too. I feel like the site has lost all customisation and individuality. I miss seeing everyone’s signatures and profile pictures, it felt a lot more personal and people were recognisable. Now we all have the same profile pic that’s just a letter, so if I see the S it could be me [name_f][/name_f], it could be someone else. It felt more like a community when we had more ways to customise our appearances. When talking online it feels more real when I can see a picture or a signature or something! [name_m]No[/name_m] profile pic screams bot to me on a lot of sites so it’s kinda jarring to see almost everyone without one!

Me, too. Even though I do like my profile picture, it’s getting old. I have had it for a while and it would be nice to have other options again. I doubt this issue will ever get fixed, though. That’s how it’s been for pretty much every problem this site has had in my 12 years of using it…

I miss seeing the profile pictures. I also think the removal of the non-names discussion section (Everything But Names) was a mistake and it diminished the social atmosphere of Nameberry. It seems Nameberry it losing the things that made it fun and distinctive in the first place.

@choupette[name_f][/name_f] I agree to both of your points! I never really interacted on there, but the “Everything But Names” seems like such a cool section. I’d love to see it brought back, even if it’s just on a “Regular” tier like “Lounge” is!
[name_f][/name_f]As stated by the rest of the people on this discussion, I would love to see profile pictures brought back! I loved creating my pfp on something like Picrew, and updating it from time to time. Tbh I get really confused by the new defaults, making it hard to tell who you’re responding to unless you directly respond to their post. It also just added a fun level of getting to know everyone and their personalities!

please feel free to ignore my whining but i am so sad that i cannot change my pfp! i love the artistic aspect of changing it with the seasons, or just when i update my uc. i think at the very least we should all get one more[name_f][/name_f] pfp change so if we have[name_f][/name_f] to have it forever we can choose one we’d like to have forever

I noticed when looking at my badges that there’s a badge that requires you to fill out your profile and add a profile pic.
There are several users who were given this in [name_f]April[/name_f], all of which have profile pics. Is there a way to upload a profile pic somehow? [name_m]Not[/name_m] sure how these new accounts have done it. For what it’s worth at least two of them look like spam/bot accounts but I still wondered if that meant we could have a profile pic somehow?

i think @The_Bookwyrm figured out they might have used Gravatar, a website that automatically assigns you the same profile picture for every account you sign up for based on your email (:
