Caroline--classic or boring?

Growing up in the Carolinas, [name]Caroline[/name] was a very common name, but now I live in Michigan and I rarely hear the name. It isn’t even in the top 100 for girls in the state, which is a plus. [name]Caroline[/name] also happens to be one of the few names my husband hasn’t vetoed and sounds nice with our last name. I’m fairly traditional when it comes to names, but I’m wondering what people think of the name [name]Caroline[/name]–is it a little stale, or is it pretty and classic?

Also, what do you think of the nickname [name]Callie[/name]? Is it too “90s” or is it usable?

For a middle name, I was thinking [name]May[/name] or [name]Louise[/name].

I love [name]Caroline[/name]. I think of it as a classic. I prefer it to [name]Carolina[/name] (as a name, please don’t hit me, lol!) and also to [name]Charlotte[/name].

[name]Callie[/name] doesn’t set my heart alight the same way [name]Caroline[/name] does, and if I can ever get my husband to put [name]Caroline[/name] on our list I’d probably use [name]Carrie[/name], but [name]Callie[/name] isn’t bad.

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] makes me really happy as an idea.

I like [name]Caroline[/name]. I do think it’s a classic name. [name]Callie[/name] isn’t for me though…if I met a girl called [name]Callie[/name], I would never guess she was a [name]Caroline[/name]…plus I don’t like the sound…it does feel a little 90’s/trendy compared to classic [name]Caroline[/name]. [name]Cara[/name] is cute.

I love the name [name]Caroline[/name] and the middle name and nns you shown go well!

I don’t think [name]Caroline[/name] is boring. It’s classic and familiar, and yes, right now it is more popular in the south. If your taste in names is traditional, [name]Caroline[/name]'s a good choice. I don’t see the nickname [name]Callie[/name] as belonging to any particular decade. It’s usable.

I love [name]Caroline[/name]! I agree that it’s pretty and classic. It might be a nice nod to your home state, as well. [name]Callie[/name] can definitely work as a nn–it seems more modern than dated to the 90s to me–although I do prefer [name]Cara[/name] and [name]Lola[/name], personally.

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] is sweet!

Good luck!

my names [name]Caroline[/name] and I have to say, I’ve never disliked it, never used a nn, and was always the only one in my school with the name. I think it stands out, but as a classic. Only gripe I ever had was people saying [name]Carolyn[/name], but that was the 80s/early90s…I think those days are over.

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] is adorable!

I like it, but I’m not crazy about it! But with the nickname [name]Callie[/name], I think it’d be a good name for a little girl! I definitely think that the middle name should be [name]May[/name]…[name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] is crazily sweet!

Thanks for the opinions everyone–I feel much more confident about the name now!

[name]Caroline[/name] is a classic imo. [name]Callie[/name] is very usable, the more modern spelling of [name]Cali[/name] is a bit better imo though.

[name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] or [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] both seem very dated to me.
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Amy[/name] is fresher, or [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Eloise[/name]. Or even [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Maya[/name].

Classic! [name]Love[/name] the more modern nn [name]Cally[/name].

I personally feel [name]Carolina[/name] (lee-na) has more swag but the name [name]Caroline[/name] is a classic.

Call me old fashioned but I love the nn [name]Carrie[/name] for it.

I love my name,(it’s [name]Caroline[/name]!). Now that it is more popular it doesn’t get as mispronounced, but I have always had to correct people that it is not [name]Carolyn[/name], and I never had a nickname, and I really love its sound, it just has a lot of nice satisfying qualities. I don’t look like a [name]Caroline[/name] [name]IMO[/name], but I think it’s a great name.

I like [name]Coraline[/name] instead of [name]Caroline[/name]. Always have. Idk. :stuck_out_tongue:

[name]One[/name] classic I will never tire of. I am not a nickname fan, so I would just use [name]Caroline[/name]. It is so classy.

I love the name [name]Caroline[/name], and the nickname [name]Callie[/name] is adorable! I think [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Louise[/name] and [name]Caroline[/name] [name]May[/name] are stunning!

I think it is beautiful, classic not boring. [name]Callie[/name] is an adorable nn that softens [name]Caroline[/name] which to me sounds very strong.

I like the name [name]Caroline[/name]! It is a very pretty and classic name. I know several Carolines, all ranging in age too, so I don’t think you could go wrong with the name! I really like both of your MN choices, however, am not really a fan of your NN. Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I always thought [name]Caroline[/name] as the only classic name that I could stand. I really only ever met one in my entire 20 years of existence… And it took me until my twentieth year to meet one! Haha. I’ve met Carols but never a [name]Caroline[/name].

[name]Caroline[/name] is a lovely name to me, regardless if I’d met a hundred Carolines.

Also, I think I like the nickname “Care”. Not: [name]Carrie[/name], [name]Carol[/name], or [name]Callie[/name]/[name]Cali[/name]. That’s my preference.

I love the nn [name]Callie[/name], and I think [name]Caroline[/name] is a classic choice you can’t go wrong with. Not too popular but instantly familiar and very wide nn potential.
