Christian? Too 50 shades?

Does this name immediately make you think of that God awful book and film franchise lol?

Not really for me, but I have quite a few other associations! I feel like the 50 Shades association will mellow over time.

It’s a handsome name but now all I can think of is Mr [name_u]Grey[/name_u] lol.
I like [name_u]Noah[/name_u] [name_u]Christian[/name_u] etc.

No I don’t think of the film or book at all!

The association is definitely there, but it’s such a common name, it’s not the main one for me.

Well, if it bothers you, then it’s probably too strong of an association. I’ve had names like that, where everyone will say that it’s fine, but it’s still all I can think about.

I think it’s a great name!

It doesn’t bother me it’s just annoying when a book series or film can hijack a name like that lol

I don’t. I think first of my uncle by the name and second of [name_u]Christian[/name_u] from Moulin Rouge!

Christian is a family name for me, so I have other associations. I also think the association with the book/movie series can be overlooked and will mellow over time. The name has been around since well before the series, and will be around for long after the hype of it fades. Also, there are plenty of well known people with the name, including some actors, athletes and royalty.

You make some good points.

Also can [name_u]Christian[/name_u] be an honour name for say your partner’s side of the family who are all religious? So I’m trying to honour them through the name of [name_u]Christian[/name_u] ( as a possibility) I don’t want to use partners mum or dads name as not very keen on their names. Does that make sense lol?

I have successfully avoided learning too much about that, so that is not my association. I do have plenty of others, though. It’s very handsome! I also think the association will fade.

I think, if it makes sense to you, it could definitely be an honour name. You may have to explain it to your partner’s family if they ask.

Honestly, I thought of the wrestler before anything else. I never read or watched 50 Shades so I would’ve never associated it with that

Also, [name_m]Hans[/name_m] [name_u]Christian[/name_u] [name_m]Andersen[/name_m] would be a great namesake!

It’s such a well established name that the association shouldn’t be a problem if it doesn’t bother you personally! (I think the same goes for [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ana[/name_f]. I know way too much about this series through YouTube think pieces… Anyway, the cultural relevance of 50 shades is definitely fading away, and by the time a [name_u]Christian[/name_u] born now is older I doubt it’ll ever even come up.)

Christian as an honour name for religious family members wouldn’t be immediately obvious but when you explain it, it makes perfect sense, and I think it’s sweet.

My eldest middle name is [name_u]George[/name_u] to honour my mum [name_f]Georgina[/name_f]. I happened to love [name_u]George[/name_u] anyway. [name_f]My[/name_f] youngest middle name is [name_u]Theo[/name_u] which was a suggestion my sister made so that’s kinda honouring her/giving her input. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother in law’s name is [name_f]Susan[/name_f]. I don’t like it for a girl and obviously not for a boy. She is a very religious lady, she is a [name_u]Christian[/name_u], so the creative way round it was to use [name_u]Christian[/name_u] to honour her?

You could always ask her if that way of honouring her would be appreciated but my guess is that her grandchild having that name would be meaningful to her either way? So even if the honouring connection doesn’t make sense to her or others, it would still be a meaningful name for the grandmother and be a connection in that way.

I don’t think of the franchise
