tw: cancer mention, death of a sibling
[name_f]Mariel[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u] Kellerman (nee Quinn) [32],
[name_u]Milan[/name_u] [name_m]Andreas[/name_m] Kellerman [8],
[name_f]Antionette[/name_f] ’ [name_f]Tia[/name_f] ’ [name_f]Frida[/name_f] Kellerman [6], and
[name_f]Paulina[/name_f] ’ [name_f]Polly[/name_f] ’ [name_f]Enid[/name_f] Kellerman [9mos] is a ‘sort of friend’ to [name_f]Nivaria[/name_f] as they have the mutual connection of [name_f]Cori[/name_f] and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]. [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] is the eldest sister of [name_u]Leon[/name_u], [name_u]Darcey[/name_u], and [name_f]Cori[/name_f], as well as mother to her own three children. Like her brother, [name_u]Leon[/name_u], she also had a love of travel before she settled down. While in Europe when she was backpacking around after college, she ended up sharing a room with a man who coincidentally went to the rival high school of the one that the [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] siblings went to. They ended up bonding over the strange synchronicity and became friends, one thing led to another and a few years later they began to date and eventually married just a year before [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] and [name_u]Leon[/name_u]. They named their eldest, and so far only, son after not the city they met in, but the city that they had both considered their favorite when they visited independently prior to meeting one another.
She and [name_u]Leon[/name_u] often bonded over their love for seeing the world and would compare and share pictures of their respective trips. Being the first in the family to have kids she often jokes that [name_u]Milan[/name_u] and [name_f]Tia[/name_f] were ‘practice kids’ for him that lead to him eventually becoming the great father that he was. The kids loved both their aunts, uncle, and ommer (a gender neutral name for aunt/uncle that was introduced to her by Cori), equally, but surely had a soft spot for their uncle. In their eyes he may as well have hung the moon. When he was diagnosed with cancer they were just 6 and 4, [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] and her husband put a lot of research into how to explain it to them in an age appropriate manner. Thankfully things went over well, and once he went into remission they were hopeful that the topic wouldn’t be coming back up.
Until a little just barely a year later and her brother called her and told her that he wanted to talk to her, their parents, and their siblings together in person. [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] had a gut feeling that it was bad news, and she had been correct when [name_u]Leon[/name_u] and [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] informed the family that he had relapsed and was given seven months to live. It was extra painful at the time considering that she was also pregnant with [name_f]Polly[/name_f] at the time. She was selfishly relieved when she did the math and realized that her daughter would be born in time to at least meet her uncle, even if she couldn’t remember it. The memory of her brother holding her newborn daughter in his, now quite frail, arms as he had already begun at home hospice care about a month before [name_f]Polly[/name_f] was born is permanently burned into her head.
During both Leon’s cancer diagnoses [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] tried her best to remain strong as the eldest of the family, but often found herself hiding away to have a moment to herself to release some of her pent up emotion. In those times she didn’t blame her sister one bit for being as reclusive as she was while she grieved.
In addition to trying to be strong for her siblings, she wanted to be a rock for [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]. The women had been close for a long time, especially as mothers. She was one of the first people who [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] told when she found out she was pregnant with her and Leon’s second child. They’ve been even closer since the revelation, sometimes [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] even tags along with [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] to her prenatal appointments if she feels she can’t face it alone. She was there to hold her while she became overcome with emotion at her sixth month check-in when she found out that she was having a boy, and they’ve planned for [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] and her husband to watch [name_f]Emi[/name_f] when [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] goes into labor.
Having a new life about to enter the world has certainly helped [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] and the rest of the [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] family focus less on the one that they lost, though as the long conversations between her, [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], and Mariel’s mother, the pain never really goes away completely.
[name_f]Mariel[/name_f] was also made aware very early on after the [name_f]Tressa[/name_f] situation, and the resulting Tressa-Kameron situation. She mainly just offered a listening ear to both the women as various emotions were processed but did try to help convince the women to mend fences once the feelings weren’t so raw. [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] was quicker to forgive once the initial shock wore off, she later reassured [name_f]Tressa[/name_f] that she was more caught off guard than truly offended. In truth she thinks that [name_u]Leon[/name_u] may have found the awkward encounter a little funny and even told her the story of how once when he had driven to the store to pick up a few things shortly sometime during his eight months of chemo the first time around. He parked in a handicap spot as he was often unable to walk length distances while receiving the fairly aggressive medications. A young woman approached him and angrily told him “You can’t park there!” to which he responded by pulling off the beanie he had been wearing to conceal his lack of hair due to the treatments and stated “I think I can.” with a smirk.
With the blessing of [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], [name_u]Kameron[/name_u] was able to forgive her sister as well. It was just a mistake and not worth throwing away their relationship over. [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] along with all the other women involved in the situations, are more than relieved to have the whole ordeal behind them.
[name_u]Milan[/name_u], [name_f]Tia[/name_f], and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] are all very excited to meet their new baby cousin in [name_u]July[/name_u], though [name_f]Polly[/name_f] to a slightly lesser degree considering she’s still practically a baby herself. [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] and the other [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] siblings are helping the kids, including [name_f]Emi[/name_f], put together a baby gift for the incoming baby boy. A scrapbook containing stories and mementos of their favorite memories of [name_u]Leon[/name_u] so that even though he won’t be able to meet his father, he’ll still be able to feel connected to him. Though if you asked [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f], she’d say that her unborn son already is. During one of her and Mariel’s usual brunch dates over at the Kellerman house, she told her all about how every time she plays [name_m]Frank[/name_m] [name_u]Sinatra[/name_u] in the house, especially It Had to Be You, he starts to kick.
