Liana Katrina Ramirez (20) is an actress, dancer, and choreographer who lives in Bakersfield. She is also a mommy to a 2 year old daughter.

A playful, sweet natured baby, he’s usually with his grandma when his parents are working and absolutely loves spending time with his extended family. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] DeCodo (2) is Fabian’s older sister and Liana’s daughter. Ophelia’s a lot shyer than her baby brother, only coming out of her shell properly around people she knows well, and is a very caring, affectionate girl. She’s developing an active imagination and loves being read to, especially stories about fairies and princesses. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] was a bit jealous when her brother was born, however she’s warmed to him given time.

Elliot ‘Teddy’ Stefan DeCodo (21) is Christopher’s friend and Liana’s boyfriend. Outgoing, charismatic and charming, he loves his family more than anything. He had somewhat of a reckless phase during his younger years that led to the birth of his eldest child, Liana’s stepdaughter, who’s just turned 5. Teddy stepped up when it was required though, splitting custody with his ex and his grandparents (who raised him), helped support him as he applied for the military.

Hadlie Joanna DeCodo (5) is Teddy’s eldest child. She loves to do gymnastics and dancing.

An easygoing person now, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] was very impulsive and wild as a teenager, having come from a disruptive home where there was little support. After becoming pregnant with her daughter, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] matured quickly and made the decision to move in with her cousin for a while, as she did her best to become independent and stable. Now she works as a teaching assistant, sharing Hadlie’s passion for gymnastics, and her younger sister lives with them, having wanted to leave home too thanks to the unhappy environment.

[name_m]Marco[/name_m] loves art more than anything, being interested in trying out sculpture alongside his usual painting, and takes after his mother mostly in terms of his quieter, more openly affectionate nature. [name_u]An[/name_u] astute student, [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] intends to go on to be a veterinarian. [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] has always been a very empathetic person, especially towards animals, and her dreams seem within reach as of right now. [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] doesn’t know [name_u]Landon[/name_u] all that well, as he’s only in one of her classes- their watercolor painting elective that they both picked out. [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] doesn’t know him, but she does think he’s cute and wants to get to know him a little better, though it’s not a full-blown crush.
[name_f]Elfie[/name_f] only has one sibling, a twin brother who’s older by 14 minutes. They’re like two peas in a pod and love to hang out, and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] considers him her best friend and confidant. [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] does have many other friends, though, including her little friend group she’s just made at high school and hopes to keep forever as they’re very dear to her.

[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m] ’ [name_m]Aldo[/name_m] ’ [name_m]Antonio[/name_m] [name_m]Stanton[/name_m] (16) is Elfie’s twin brother and best friend. Unlike [name_f]Elfie[/name_f], he has multiple classes with [name_u]Landon[/name_u] but hasn’t quite understood why [name_u]Landon[/name_u] is awkward when talking about [name_f]Elfie[/name_f] until very recently. [name_m]Aldo[/name_m] pretty much figured this out when announcements of a spring dance were coming up. [name_m]Aldo[/name_m] himself asked out someone but this was more of a casual dance partnership and not quite a love match, at least for now. [name_m]Aldo[/name_m] is also a smart and mature individual but in no desire to make any “adult decisions”, instead enjoying that sweet spot between childhood and adulthood for now. He’s really looking forward to getting a car and despite failing his driver’s test, he’s prepared himself to try again and get the licence and freedom he yearns for. One of he and Elfie’s mutual friends knows about Landon’s crush on [name_f]Elfie[/name_f], even more than the twins themselves.

[name_f]Salome[/name_f] " [name_f]Lola[/name_f] " [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] (16) is Aldo’s upcoming date for the aforementioned dance, not that it’s anything serious for either of them. A serious relationship really isn’t something [name_f]Lola[/name_f] wants to pursue right now, not when she has a lot of time taken up by band practice with her punk/alternative fusion group: N.O.K, and doesn’t feel it would be fair to either side trying to date. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] plays both rhythm and lead guitar interchangeably, depending on what’s required in the makeup of their songs, many of which she’s written. She isn’t someone who feels comfortable pouring her heart, soul and personal life into lyrics yet, so her compositions more focus on social critiques and perspectives she has, spliced with slithers of insight into the girl behind the fringe and amp.
[name_f]Music[/name_f] runs in her family as well, although in a hobby sense instead of major fame or fortune. Her dad’s a jazz artist who performs casually with his friends and her younger siblings - fraternal twins - are currently learning violin, although her sister’s a lot more dedicated to this than her brother. Being of Czech heritage, [name_f]Lola[/name_f] can actually speak Slovak and there’s one N.O.K song called ‘herb garden’ that she’s written entirely in the language, being one of the rare times she actually sings by herself instead of just providing occasional backing vocals [which are few and far between]. She has provided a full translation for her bandmates but as of now isn’t making things super clear to those outside the group as you’ve got to upkeep some mystery…and the song is literally about how relaxing she finds going the allotments with her mom, to disappoint anyone expecting gossip or profound revelations about her life.

[name_m]Václav[/name_m] " [name_m]Vance[/name_m] " [name_m]Abel[/name_m] [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] & [name_f]Ondrea[/name_f] " [name_u]Odie[/name_u] " [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] (13) are the twin siblings of [name_f]Lola[/name_f] who play the violin. [name_u]Odie[/name_u] takes the activity way more seriously than her brother does, as she has more of a competitive spirit and really wants to be the ace of the school orchestra, having quite the rivalry with one of the girls who plays the alto there. [name_m]Vance[/name_m] is more of a free spirit and loves riding his bike everywhere or spending some time by the lake, but his mom always warns him to not try to swim in said lake.
The twins know both Czech and Slovak , just like their sister, but use Czech more often and were surprised when [name_f]Lola[/name_f] recorded a song in Slovak with her bandmates. Honestly speaking, they find N.O.K 's growing popularity on TikTok a little bit cringy and [name_u]Odie[/name_u] has even recieved some teasing from her rival as a result - after all, according to [name_u]Odie[/name_u] 's rival , punk isn’t even real music.
[name_m]Vance[/name_m] however doesn’t mind the popularity of the band as much and has even formed somewhat of a friendship with the bass guitar player, who’s 15 and a fellow nature lover. [name_m]Vance[/name_m] loves taking care of the allotments with his mom as much as [name_f]Lola[/name_f] does - they often go there with her while [name_u]Odie[/name_u] would rather stay at home listening to music, reading or hanging around in the local park with her friends from the orchestra discussing the lastest middle school drama.
[name_m]Vance[/name_m] however, admits that he doesn’t love the allotments enough to compose a piece of violin music about it. He even contemplates leaving this activity behind him altogether and focus on his school Environmet Club which is organising a nature-themed photo contest this month and [name_m]Vance[/name_m] is pumped to see if his photo of a woodpecker will win it or not.

[name_f]Mayflower[/name_f] " [name_f]May[/name_f] " [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Tenley[/name_f] (13) is Odie’s rival and self-appointed decision maker where music validity is concerned. While she dresses in a style conveying a relaxed, laissez-faire image - and even at concerts opts for very minimalistic dress: a black turtleneck and either grey trousers or long pleated skirt - [name_f]May[/name_f] is tenacious where her goals are concerned. This naturally led to her clashing with the like minded [name_u]Odie[/name_u], and there’s an added prickly edge to the girl that made her decide she needed to voice her attitudes where punk music’s concerned - after all, all ammo is good ammo, even if you’re just thinking up digs on the spot.
In reality, May’s reasons for criticising both [name_u]Odie[/name_u] and N.O.K. are more personal than she lets on. Her older half-sister’s a fellow artist, specialising in sculpture, who has a prominent online profile and following, leading to a bit of imposter syndrome developing in [name_f]May[/name_f]. She always feels she has to live up to her sister, in spite of their dad trying to remind [name_f]May[/name_f] she’s just as important and obviously hasn’t had the time to build herself up in the wider world, which has led to her spreading the mentality any kind of online presence is ‘cringe’ and to be looked down on - a secret hypocrisy, as it’s something [name_f]May[/name_f] knows she desperately wants. Of course it’s more ironic that her greatest rival came to take on this mindset too, but she’s not taken credit as obviously it could stop if she’s revealed as the creator of this trend.
While she isn’t dead set on terrorising [name_u]Odie[/name_u], it doesn’t mean [name_f]May[/name_f] plays particularly nice when they have a spat, and deep down, she fears how people compare them, making her more combative. Her over it outer persona does a good job covering her insecurities though, and May’s very socially astute for her youth. People can’t ever imagine her as so dominated by uncertainty and hangups as she seems one of the most self-assured 13 year old’s imaginable, and barely lets her mask slip.

tw: mean girl character, foster care/turbulent family life, mention of a parental death
[name_f]Apple[/name_f] [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] [name_u]Bennington[/name_u] [13] is a classmate of [name_f]May[/name_f] and fellow opinionated young teen. Though if you asked their shared teachers, [name_f]Apple[/name_f] is the worse offender when it comes to comparing the two. She’s very mouthy towards teachers and authority figures in general, often disrupting classes with snide comments and heckles. She’s also landed in detention many times since she’s pretty much a textbook mean girl who likes to bully and harass her classmates, both [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]Odie[/name_u], and [name_m]Vance[/name_m] have unfortunately been victims of her tirades. With [name_f]Apple[/name_f] calling the twins “Chief of the Bore-chestra” and [name_m]Vance[/name_m] a “Enviro-snob.” She seemed to almost come to their aid once when she interrupted one of May’s digs about punk music with a declaration of “Who cares what you think? You dress like a depressed freak!”
Pictured here with her namesake she’s often happiest out in nature and away from the chaos in her home. Apple’s been in and out of foster care for the last year. Raised by a single mother after her father died when she was ten months old due to an overdose on illegal drugs. Her mother was scared into sobriety by the incident. She managed to stay on the straight and narrow for nearly a decade. Until the pandemic caused her to lose the job she’d had for eight years. The loss combined with the additional stress of covid caused her to relapse in 2021.
This lead to [name_f]Apple[/name_f] learning how to care for herself when her mother was unavailable due to her being under the influence. She got good at making her own meals, getting herself up for school, and even doing the shopping for the household with the money she earned doing odd jobs around the neighborhood. Though often her mother would skim off the top of her earnings to pay for her habit. This routine ‘worked’ fine until a teacher noticed that [name_f]Apple[/name_f] was bringing less and less food to school for lunch due to her needing to purchase less groceries to accommodate for the money her mother was stealing from her.
The teacher tried getting her to talk to her but Apple’s lips were sealed. Eventually CPS was called and a single home visit exposed the neglect that [name_f]Apple[/name_f] had been living in. She was removed from her home for the first time that night. After six months she was placed back with her mother once she completed her required tasks and met all the requirements. But addiction is a terrible disease and she soon relapsed again, returning [name_f]Apple[/name_f] to foster care.
She’s ‘lucky’ in that she was able to be re-placed with the same family she was with during her first stint in foster care, which made a terrible situation at least a little less painful. Though she still maintains that things were fine with her and her mother, constantly trying to convince the adults in her life that she’s good to go back home. This accounts for her erratic behavior as she is unable to rationally and healthily express her emotions during such a crazy time in her life.
Her foster mother is very understanding of the situation as she’s been a foster mom for many years. She always gives [name_f]Apple[/name_f] lots of space to process things but is trying to work with her on learning how to safely process her feelings. Her foster mom is also in close contact with Apple’s bio mom and is feeling very confident that she’s in a much better place than she was before her last relapse.
Reunification is hopefully soon to be in the upcoming future for [name_f]Apple[/name_f] and her mom. She now has a much more stable support system in place to help her out, which she lacked during Apple’s first stay in foster care. She’s very happy to have Apple’s foster mom’s support in her journey to getting her daughter back, and of course Apple’s foster mom is just as excited as to see another one of her foster children reunited as the mother-daughter pair are. Both women are hopeful that a much brighter future is in store for the girl that they both care about and are both working with Apple’s teacher to help coordinate a plan to help her through her behavior issues.

[name_f]Arban[/name_f] [name_u]Erdene[/name_u] (14) is another student at [name_f]Apple[/name_f] and May’s school who also has a sense of behavioral issues. Being of Mongolian descent, she was overjoyed when her Uncle [name_u]Gary[/name_u] moved from Mongolia to the States, but wasn’t the same since her uncle ended up passing away. She’s always been grateful for her family and they’ve always been grateful for her. She’s made [name_f]Apple[/name_f] greatly dislike her when she stated Apple’s mother had terrible morals for stealing her daughter’s lunch money to buy narcotics. [name_f]Arban[/name_f] doesn’t blame the addiction, she blames the actions. As for how justified Arban’s hate is for Apple’s mother, it’s about 50/50. She’s right about some of the responsibilities Apple’s mother won’t take but she’s not justified because she often dislikes people without knowing the whole situation. [name_f]Arban[/name_f] doesn’t hate [name_f]Apple[/name_f] as a person however and does wish her the best, but [name_f]Apple[/name_f] despises Arban’s hate for her birth mother. Thankfully the two girls don’t share classes so they don’t talk much.
As for [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_f]Arban[/name_f] actually admires her lifestyle. The two share a common taste in music and [name_f]Arban[/name_f] doesn’t really care for [name_u]Odie[/name_u]. [name_f]Arban[/name_f] tends to be harsh towards the [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] twins, teasing [name_m]Vance[/name_m] that he never gets to swim in the lake while she loves the lake and her parents allow her to swim there. She’s in the Environment club with him and is great with the environment so despite the drama, she’s staying in the club. [name_f]Arban[/name_f] is still quite rebellious on swimming anyway, once swimming in a pond that was forbidden to swim in and also swimming at her house’s pool at night for fun while everyone is asleep. She is more personal to [name_u]Odie[/name_u] and more catty with [name_m]Vance[/name_m] but secretly, [name_f]Arban[/name_f] has a crush on [name_m]Vance[/name_m]. She acts like a rival to him but secretly she likes him. A good friend of the [name_m]Kafka[/name_m] twins is starting to catch onto that and even [name_u]Odie[/name_u] believed it, but [name_f]Arban[/name_f] immediately nipped it in the bud by telling people that [name_u]Odie[/name_u] is secretly falling for her enemies. Thankfully this lie didn’t last long, [name_f]Arban[/name_f] didn’t want it to last, she just wanted [name_u]Odie[/name_u] to “shut up” and stop believing she liked her twin brother. [name_f]Arban[/name_f] doesn’t care who supports her and who doesn’t, but she’s glad she and [name_f]May[/name_f] are still on each other’s good sides.
