A sculptor, who teaches metalwork freelance, Rudy’s gone by numerous names throughout life, and only a small handful of people know his birth name - [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] Melainey is someone aware of it - however he feels [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] Blomford is the true name for him. There isn’t any deep meaning behind it, linking to ancestors or close friends, not even fellow artists like [name_m]Rudyard[/name_m] Kipling; it’s merely what [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] feels most connected to - quite the feat given his lifestyle.

His most famous pieces were released under the alias [name_u]Barrett[/name_u] Minskip in the late 80s, during whch time the worst instance of Rudy’s behaviour occurred. He was actually married for 12 years to a woman using his legal name and fathered 2 sons and a daughter, who he appeared devoted to. [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] taught his kids how to fix cars and attended their school plays, however shortly after his 12th wedding anniversary, he upped and left.

Due to their similarities, Rudy’s spoken to [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] a few times about what prompted this: he just felt bored by a stable lifestyle. Spending most of his youth bouncing around various states, making lots of friends on a short term basis, [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] never had constant attachments, however this was the cruelest of his vanishings; leaving no means for anyone to contact him. Using one of his aliases, [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] [name_m]Brix[/name_m], [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] had a bigamous second marriage a couple years later and fathered another daughter, but once more he moved on, shortly before the 3rd birthday of his youngest child.

Since then, [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] hasn’t settled in this manner, arguably the most selfless of his recent actions. [name_m]Art[/name_m] has once more become the center of his world and he spends a lot of time sculpting, as well as doing script editing for low budget films, where his many aliases come in handy. [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] has no desire to reunite with his relatives, solely because facing the aftermath of his callous betrayal is something he doesn’t want to face, just like [name_u]Jessie[/name_u]. Sometimes he contemplates if he could make amends but it doesn’t appeal much to him. After all, running’s never done him harm, has it?

[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_u]Marie[/name_u] " [name_f]Eve[/name_f] " Rothschild (24) is another artist who has seen both [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] and [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] in passing, although she doesn’t know them too well. She’s cordial with them and would consider them nice people. If she knew their histories, though, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] wouldn’t give either of them a second glance.

[name_f]Eve[/name_f] is a painter at heart and has been painting since she was five years old. The only daughter to a CEO father and a stay at home mother, [name_f]Eve[/name_f] knows that she is very lucky to have been given the privilege to pursue art as a career without having to worry about jobs in the future.

Maitane " [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] " Fiomara Venancio (23) is one of Eve’s roommates, the baby of the household as they’re jokingly called on account of being the youngest. Having majored in creative writing, their current job isn’t what they expected, but it’s not exactly one they’ll complain about: Tayn’s the secretary of an experienced publisher, who’s responsible for communicating regarding releases and stock of novels being printed for sale. They hope to one day have a book of their own being distributed, but that’s a slow process right now, as Tayn’s a self-confessed perfectionist who takes a long time to finish a short story, never mind a whole epic saga. That and the matter of [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] having a pet cat of their own - Munchkin, a rescue named for her size - and they’re very prone to getting distracted watching her and [name_u]Sora[/name_u] play together, or caving when one of the cats is requiring affection.

[name_m]Born[/name_m] into a Portuguese-Canadian family, Tayn’s actually avoided by [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] at all costs. Their dad’s a detective after all, and since abandoning his families in the US years ago, he’s dreading the idea of one day being identified. The fact his children were of an age when they needed financial support still means he could be prosecuted for the money owed, and while he’s not that materialistic, the fear of that confrontation keeps him treating [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] like the plague in human form. As they and [name_f]Eve[/name_f] are oblivious to this, they just found it funny how he suddenly went for a trip south when Tayn’s parents came round for a long weekend, joking he must have some secrets he needs to keep.

Within the family, Tayn’s still the baby, something that furthers their roommates title. They’ve got an older brother and sister who are both still living in [name_f]Canada[/name_f], however their brother’s job has seen him go to [name_m]Montreal[/name_m], and their sisters’ now mum to an eight month old child - Tayn’s nephew - so they’ve not seen as much of them recently. Growing up, [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] absolutely idolised their older siblings and frequently followed them about: something their brother loved but their sister wasn’t always too keen on [not that it deterred [name_m]Tayn[/name_m], who has their dad’s tenacious spirit]. It was their mum - a prison doctor, who’s unshakeable even by Venancio family standards - who’d stop any feelings getting hurt, and by the time [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] was in their mid-teens, they and their sister had formed a very tight knit bond. There are plans for Tayn’s nephew to visit them soon [instead of going to their parents or the home their sisters’ partner renovated for his growing family], although they’ve made [name_f]Eve[/name_f] promise to not let him near any paints, as he’s very mobile and absolutely will want to begin creating a masterpiece on the walls, floor or even his own face.

In a coincidence that would have [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] running in a similar manner to her confident, Tayn’s actually been in correspondence with [name_f]Grace[/name_f] more recently, thanks to outsourcing books to smaller shops such as One More Chapter. Although they aren’t friends yet, [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] have found mutual passions for not just books - shocker - but also crafting jewelery and customising clothing, as Tayn’s partial to iron on patches and decorating things with badges. Some might say that fate, or a mischievous deity, is determined to see the past catch up with one or both of [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] and [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], however it’s not like [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] will bond enough for them to invite her to visit…right?

He works as an investigaive journalist and is trying to get the publishing house where [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] works to consider his book idea, so naturally [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] took part in their meetings being the secretary of the publisher. [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] works undercover in the local art world , exposing things like nepotism , enitlement , poor treatment of staff , workers , interns and even customer service. [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] tries to make it seem like he is just an art whiz going regularly to galleries and some artists seem to chat with him often because [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] knows how to listen , give compliemtns and make people feel important - which is something that a narcissist like [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] sees as their supply and so he plays along. [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] has even invited [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] to his house in order to show him scuplters that are in progress. On the walls, [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] saw [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] 's photos of his first wife and family - the two sons and daughter - as well as his youngest daughter with another woman, who stood out because she’s mixed race. Upon being asked who the people were , [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] despcribed it to him as an “art project from over 20 years ago” which in his mind is true because spreading his genes if for [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] something that can be compared to art. [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] knows that [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] is hiding something and he knows that if he exposes the secret it can be an explosive sensation if you look into it , both from a journalistic perspective as one of the strongest in his series of articles as well as from the perspective of an hopeful author of a non-fiction book.

Privately, he’s a father of three - an 8-year-old daughter, 7-year-old son and 4-year-old son. He and his wife wed in [name_u]January[/name_u] of 2014 and so they celebrated their 9th wedding anniversary pretty recently , with both sides of his family present other than [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] 's father who’s currently for pneumonia. Shawn’s father is a long-time smoker and has lung-related problems. so [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] swore never to smoke and swapped one bad habit for another - he drinks way too much coffee and sometimes even six ones a day. He jokes that it’s what gives him energy for keeping up with his energetic kids and the new member of the family , and [name_u]Irish[/name_u] setter named [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m]. However, his wife worries about him because he knows that both caffeine addiction and investigative journalism can be risky - that’s why she advised [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] to make contact with a detective if he wants to continue exposing [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] pretty quickly stumbled upon the detective agency of [name_m]Tayn[/name_m] 's father.

[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] " [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] " [name_f]Ailis[/name_f] (Beauchamp) Treharne (34) is Shawn’s wife and source of advice. Currently working as a doctor’s secretary, its the medical field and all its woes that makes [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] prone to checking in on her husband: be it how much coffee he’s drinking or the brutality some people will employ to see their secrets kept. [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] actually met [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] when he was starting out in his career: specifically he was investigsting one of the partners at the business she was employed by, who had been suspected as an embezzler. She became his main source of intel about the company as a whole, partly because she’d come to dislike working there thanks to all the backstabbing and objectification female employees were subjected. On multiple occasions higher ranking staff members attempted to dictate how they thought [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] should dress, and another was very degrading about one of her colleagues, which led to her wanting to expose not just the criminal activity going on, but also the blatant sexism allowed to brew within the environment.

Although currently unknown - at least in terms of the full picture - [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] has a lot she can relate to with [name_u]Rudy[/name_u] Blomford’s children. Her father abandoned her, her mum and brother when [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] was 7, following a midlife crisis and decision he needed to ‘free himself’ [which meant abandoning his children in the process]. Unlike [name_u]Rudy[/name_u], Minnie’s dad wasn’t quite as able to keep up his callous ways, and came crawling back two years after his great emancipation, which wasn’t received warmly by anyone. She doesn’t have much contact with him now she’s an adult, aside from the occasional phone call and birthday cards for her children, which is facilitated by the fact he remarried when she was 18 [although no more children were born to him, a relief given his hands off parenting], and her stepmother isn’t someone you could mistake as warm.

Minnie’s remained close with her mum - who absolutely adores her grandchildren, born to [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] - but isn’t super tight with her brother. It’s not that they dislike each other or have any conflict, they’re just very different people: she’s quite emotional and open, he’s closed off and aloof. [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] attributes this to their dad’s abandonment, however her brother refuses to speak about it, and she suspects he suffered more thanks to the betrayal, as prior to the walk out, father and son had a very tight bond. The siblings main shared love is animals: Minnie’s brother works at a shelter, which is where they got [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m], and she knows her kids would love another animal - however she and [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] are holding off due to the excitable nature of their trio, and no doubt another pet would unleash anarchy. For how some people think Minnie’s a little high strung [she was diagnosed with anxiety at 16], she handles her kids with patience and ease, being especially good at providing them comfort when they’re overwhelmed thanks to her personal understanding of those moments.

Ermingarde [name_u]Truly[/name_u] [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] [name_f]Brei[/name_f] (41) is a doctor at the clinic [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] works for, and the one who was being degraded by the higher ranking staff members. She is unfortunately very familiar with sexist treatment. She is one of the top doctors in the area, and she was a top student at her university, too, but that doesn’t mean people take her seriously, especially because she specializes in women’s health, and we all know how biased the medical field is against women. But she stays at the clinic because it’s the closest one to the lower income districts, where she was born and raised, and she is passionate about giving those people good, affordable, compassionate care.

She also stays because she’s friends with [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]. When [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] started working there, Ermingarde felt a special kinship with her because her mother, [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f], used to call her [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]. She used to say it like a song while they danced around the living room when the power got turned off: “Minnie and [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f], [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f] and Minnie.” But it was too painful to keep the nickname when she grew up, because her mother died when she was 17–and Ermingarde is sure that her mother would still be alive if doctors had taken Mitzi’s health concerns seriously. But they dismissed her as a poor, paranoid, unintelligent woman with a thick, [name_m]German[/name_m] accent. This tragedy was what sparked Ermingarde’s decision to become a doctor. She worked double shifts and multiple jobs and… well, if only it were that simple to afford college, food, and rent. In the end, she needed to take out student loans (what doctor doesn’t?) and she’s still paying them off. A part of her regrets that, but she doesn’t regret the overjoyed, grateful faces of all the patients she helps.

A humanitarian and activist at heart, Ermingarde also volunteers at youth, women’s, and homeless shelters, and has started many petitions for them to get more funding. She knits blankets and baby clothes and is currently on a wait list to be a hospital newborn cuddler. She shares articles and TED talks on social media and is even writing her own speech, if she ever gets up the courage to give it. That’s one of the things that bugs her about herself–she is much more confident and outspoken in writing than in person. Sure, she thrives with one-on-one conversations with her patients and friends, but she shuts down when people confront her or make her the center of attention. She also struggles with the conflicting feelings of not doing enough and constantly living near burn-out because she’s doing too much. And she’s lonely. She misses her mother terribly and she never knew her father, and she’s never been successful or happy with dating (during the very few, very brief times when she gave it a try). She doesn’t necessarily want or need a romantic partner, and she doesn’t want to become co-dependent on anyone, but she’s very aware that she could be slipping into depression. It’s just like her mother used to say: “Give whenever you can, but make sure you let others give to you, too.”

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] Treharne (8) and [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m] (3,5 years ) are quite close to Ermingarde. [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] is also Ermingarde’s goddaughter. She admires Emingarde for her compassion towards others even though she knows Emingarde had a difficult life. She doesn’t really know the history of sexism or all the complicated facts about women being more prone to be victimized by medical malpratice due to them being dismissed as paranoia - however she’s really into sports and it kind of hurts her when she sees boys play volleyball and shout at each other insults like you play like a girl! so she tries to be smug about it and tell them that it’s rude towards girls, however she gets laughed at. That’s what ultimately discouraged her from playing volleyball or any other team sport because she didn’t want the rivarly or bickering between players to ruin her mood. Instaed, [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] joined the swim team where she competes only with herself and always counts the best time in which she can swim through the whole pool. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though getting a dog was the idea of [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] 's brother , who’s a year younger than her, taking care of [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m] is a shared responsibility within the family and [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] loves going to the dog park with him and playing dog sports like frisbee or agility - she even made friends there with a fellow young dog owner who also goes there with her furry friend and mom - even though [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m] and the other girl’s dog vastly differ in size , they’re friends too.

[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] 's passion however is writing and she loves modifying her experiences to fit the fantasy quasi-medival world of forest fairies and water nymphs. She’s encouraged to write by both Emingarde and her father , [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] , although her mom [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] thinks she should think about something more practical and devote more time to chores than a fantasy world. Emingarde knows how it is to have a life overwhelmed by responsibilities so she tells [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] to never lose her imagination and enjoy her childhood while she can. [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] thinks that her godmother helping the homeless, youth and other women is really admirable and her applying for the position of a newborn cuddler at the hospital is the " cutest thing ever" . She wants to be involved in the local community just like her godmother is and dreams of the day where she will be old enough to be student body president. If girls can do anything, then they can change the world starting with their school…

Hamish ’ [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] ’ [name_m]Alban[/name_m] Treharne (7) is Roxanne’s younger brother and the middle child of [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]. He has a godmother and father himself, although they’re the close friends of his dad, who just so happen to be brother and sister. The spirit of pursuing justice is very much alive and strong in [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], who offered to intervene when [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] was being teased, although his sister managed to talk him out of it, as she didn’t want to stir up trouble between those boys. Still, it never stops [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] from stepping in if someone’s taunting someone else at school, although his mum’s been trying to convince him to alert an adult instead of going in himself, as he isn’t intimidated by older or taller kids.

Like his sister, [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] is very much enamoured by fantasy. He’s more of a dragons, knights and giants kind of guy, but he is thoroughly impressed by magic, and this has translated into him actually learning card tricks. [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] isn’t sure if he’d like to pursue a professional career as a magician or anything, as he’s content to just do whatever he finds fun right now: be it playing basketball or engaging in elaborate zombie games with his friends. The one thing he’s committed to is joining his parents when they take [name_m]Carnelian[/name_m] for a walk, and if it was up to him, they’d have another dog right now. In the meantime, [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] lives vicariously through his godfather, who’s dog just had puppies, and the Treharne siblings adore fawning over them.

[name_u]Darren[/name_u] [name_m]Arnold[/name_m] Wunsch (40) is the godfather of [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] and older brother of his godmother. [name_u]Darren[/name_u] 's sister is six years younger than him and he has always been protective of her , that’s why he was very worried about her when she faced some difficulties during her college years studying journalism and was about to fail a few classes , including [name_m]History[/name_m] of Journalism with a particularly strict professor. Fortunately , [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] Treharne helped [name_u]Darren[/name_u] 's sister by lending her his notes and studying together in the library. [name_u]Darren[/name_u] was relieved when she passed the course on the second try by writing a very impressive essay. A friendship blossomed between [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] and [name_u]Darren[/name_u] ’ s sister because of their love of cheesy shows and coffee. [name_u]Darren[/name_u] for the longest time thought that [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] and his sister will become a couple , only for her to get sick of the teasing and reveal to Darrren that she already did have a boyfriend - but due to him being an [name_u]East[/name_u] [name_f]Asian[/name_f] man, she didn’t tell anyone about the relationship because she was afraid that the extremely backwards views of [name_u]Darren[/name_u] and his sister’s father will cause the relationship being destroyed and the parents no longer paying for her college tuition. [name_u]Darren[/name_u] unfortunately agreed with that sentiment and has made the promise to keep the relationship a secret. A year later, [name_u]Darren[/name_u] and his sister’s father died and so her boyfriend got introduced to the family. They had some warming up to do in terms of accepting the boyfriend (especially aunts who were plotting to set [name_u]Darren[/name_u] 's sister up on dates with sons of their friends, typical “boys next door”) however their views weren’t as bad as the father’s & they eventually fully accepted him.

[name_u]Darren[/name_u] is happy for his sister and thinks that she does a good job as the godmother of [name_u]Hayes[/name_u]. The man never considered himself to be good with kids (or people in general) being very socially awkard , keeping to himself and generally doing most things on his own. People who get to know him get a little weirded out by the fact that he frequently goes to the cinema or fancy restaurants alone and mostly talks to his dogs - [name_f]English[/name_f] setters [name_u]London[/name_u] (seen in the picture) & [name_m]Winston[/name_m] . He has a kennel complient with American Kennel Club standards and trains dog sports like agility and obedience with them. He doesn’t realise how cool [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] thinks that all is - at least he hadn’t until recently when [name_u]London[/name_u] gave birth to six beautiful puppies - 4 girls and 2 boys. [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] and [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] are already coming up with names for them being aware that they have to start with the same letter. [name_f]Roxanne[/name_f] and [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] love visiting [name_u]Darren[/name_u] 's house for Halloween , [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] and [name_f]Easter[/name_f] because he is awesome at decorating the house in a themed way and making it magical for family gatherings. He even dresses up for Halloween each year and [name_u]Hayes[/name_u] thinks that his impression of a zombie is world-class. His mother is very much pressuring him to look for a wife but [name_u]Darren[/name_u] doesn’t see it as the path that he wants to go. He would much rather devote time to his dogs , the few friends that he has and increasing the prestige of his kennel by caring for the well-being of puppies. He however freqently invites his mother to his house and is worried about her because she starts showing serious signs of memory loss and he’s having a hard time talking about it to his sister , who’s in denial about that fact because she lives far away.

[name_f]Velma[/name_f] [name_u]Marian[/name_u] Wunsch (34) is Darren’s sister and the godmother of [name_u]Hayes[/name_u]. She can be insecure, especially about her “place” in life, which she’s grateful [name_u]Darren[/name_u] has helped her through. She’s always been closer to her maternal family but she’s mostly unaware of what’s going on with her mother given the fact her mother lives far away. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] has always been grateful for Darren; he supported her, her boyfriend, [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], their mother, and even the dogs! She wishes she was as kind as [name_u]Darren[/name_u] yet she’s eternally grateful to be in Hayes’ life as his godmother.

[name_f]Velma[/name_f] has always been more secretive between the two, especially when she had to hide her relationship with her boyfriend. It was for his protection and not out of hate, but she still felt bad for him. After all, it was due to her father’s racism against those who were different, with Velma’s boyfriend being [name_u]East[/name_u] [name_f]Asian[/name_f]. Her boyfriend worried she would leave him for [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] or for the reasons she was keeping the relationship hidden from her paternal side for the time. But [name_f]Velma[/name_f] was a strong and serious woman who would never let go of what was right even when times got tough. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] would go on to introduce her boyfriend to her family a year after her father passed away. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] stood strong against her aunts trying to get her to date other people and eventually they would understand her. She dearly loves him and wouldn’t want a relationship with anyone else. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] currently lives with her boyfriend and is more and more visible as an anti-racist. She’s understanding of [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and Ermingarde also not being taken seriously, although the reasons they weren’t taken seriously was not them but rather misogyny in the workplace. In which [name_f]Velma[/name_f] states, “Whoever’s their boss, just fire the sexists already.”

Given her quiet and secretive nature, people didn’t take her seriously if she was outspoken. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] had a strong career but she worked with computers rather than in front of people in person. She is an IT security consultant. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] is passionate about IT security, and enjoys educating others about the importance of cybersecurity. She believes that protecting critical infrastructure and data is critical to ensuring the security and safety of all individuals and businesses. [name_f]Velma[/name_f] works hard to meet the challenges of a dynamic and ever-changing industry, and has been instrumental in developing new solutions and tools to help combat threats and attacks. She’s had mixed perceptions from people, with some believing she’s intelligent and successful while others perceiving her and those who work from home and/or in tech are “lazy”. She’s felt better the less she’s cared about what others think. However she’s still been worried for her mum lately although she’s afraid to talk about it. Thankfully, there are distractions. Velma’s someone [name_f]Eva[/name_f] finds relentlessly cool, as she’s proud of voicing. When she was little this was because of the [name_m]Scooby[/name_m] Doo connection she immediately pointed out, but now she’s done some growing up - and isn’t dressing as [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] every year for Halloween - her respect has become tied to the values [name_f]Velma[/name_f] promotes and stands by. While she can seem a little obtuse and has a potential to interfere when uninvited, [name_f]Eva[/name_f] isn’t someone with bad intentions, and really her interest in others stems from wanting to help - although Velma’s helped her become more mindful of boundaries, especially where potential romances are concerned [as a war might have broken out if [name_f]Eva[/name_f] approached her brother’s crush to matchmake]. Instead, she’s helped redirect Eva’s attentions to forming a club at school celebrating ethnic and cultural diversity, which the 11-year-old is already devoted to.

When she isn’t peacemaking between her kids, it doesn’t happen much but people tend to remember when she brings up a petty row or spat, Rach enjoys water-based sports, especially jet-skiing and wild swimming, the first having been something she started at college, the second an interest her dad sparked in her, from when the [name_m]Pryce[/name_m] family went on camping trips.

Otherwise, Rach doesn’t seem like a typical outdoorsy person: she’s the owner of a successful coffee shop who enjoys experimenting with drinks and spending time with her friends in the city, especially if it’s attending galleries or museums. She’s a naturally sociable person who has a large group of friends, some of whom she’s known since she was a kid, and Rach is very good at organising meetups, as well as getting people to commit to attending. By her own admission, she’s a bit anal about this, and hates having to reorganise when she just wants a plan agreed on.

Unlike [name_f]Eva[/name_f], Rach has full knowledge of her son’s crush, however she’s sticking by her promise to keep quiet, so he isn’t teased by anyone, or embarrassed in front of the person in question. It’s actually another boy he’s got an interest in, and while there’s been progression, she understands her son’s concerns about openly admitting this - so for now, Rach is doing all she can to encourage him in coming out as bisexual, before he addresses his feelings.

She started transitioning while in medical school after wanting to get in touch with her feminine side, believing she never felt like herself being a man. Coming out was her hardest step but she’s grateful for an awesome community. She’s proud she came out rather than stayed closeted and she feels so much better as [name_f]Neves[/name_f]. [name_m]Prior[/name_m] to being a doctor, she worked in a cruise ship restaurant but decided it’s not for her. [name_m]Leão[/name_m] is an active member in his community. He enjoys playing team sports, volunteering at his local soup kitchen, & hopes to join Model UN once he reaches high school. Leão’s goal is to attend [name_u]Duke[/name_u] University after high school & later join the [name_u]Peace[/name_u] Corp.

[name_m]Leão[/name_m] is currently questioning his sexuality, which is why he is holding off on coming out to his mom. He knows that he is not heterosexual, but isn’t sure what he identifies as. Having a sister who’s determined to interrogate everything drives [name_m]Hector[/name_m] more than a little mad, partly because of how he envies her confidence. He’s always been the quieter sibling, happier in his own company and getting on with things that interest him, however he does sometimes unfairly compare himself to [name_f]Eva[/name_f], wishing he could have her tenacity when it comes to socialising.

Passionate about gaming and history, Hector’s much more easily entertained by a good book than his sister, which is something she wishes she could do. [name_m]Hector[/name_m] doesn’t need an influx of things to keep him entertained, although he does enjoy insight into growing up, usually through conversations with his mom, who he trusts with all aspects of his life. In more recent years, Hector’s been going through a lot of personal changes, which culminated in him realising his sexuality and feelings for [name_m]Leão[/name_m].

The idea of [name_m]Leão[/name_m] knowing mortifies him, as he considers the other boy infinitely cooler than he could ever be, and if [name_m]Hector[/name_m] had guessed Leãos’ caught on, he’d currently not be able to face him. It isn’t rejection that frightens him most, but [name_m]Leão[/name_m] feeling guilty or pitying him for this. Hector’s mostly spoken to his best friend about this, who has an actual girlfriend (well in the 13-year-old puppy love kinda way), however in spite of the other boy doing his best to encourage [name_m]Hector[/name_m] to find confidence in his kindness and patience, it’s easier said than done.

Coming from a large Italian-American family, with more branches than she can count, Nina’s the youngest of four, and surprises some by not minding the protective attitudes of those around her. She’s especially close to her mom and older sister, who’s trans - having come out to the family when she was 14, but her social transition has been more recent. Nina’s other older siblings - her brothers - have given her advice on how to support their sister to the best of her ability, as they’re both attending college, meaning being there in person is dictated by semesters.

While she’s pretty shy - especially around her boyfriends’ friend group - Nina’s passionate about people’s rights, and it’s actually led to her becoming more interested in politics, namely to encourage positive changes. The middle school she’s attending doesn’t have a debate team, but [name_f]Nina[/name_f] wants to join one the moment it’s possible: an endeavour supported most vocally by her mom, sister, boyfriend and best friend.

Recently, [name_f]Nina[/name_f] has become aware of Hector’s crush on [name_m]Leão[/name_m], namely as her boyfriend confided in her about what advice to give. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] " [name_f]May[/name_f] " [name_f]Vittoria[/name_f] Palaggio (17) is Nina’s sister and a member of the trans community, who fully socially transitioned 9 months ago: a big step that took some time to get to. While her family have known for 3 years, [name_f]May[/name_f] was much more fearful about being openly trans at school, having seen how some of her classmates rely on homophobic jokes - and of course, transphobic humour has become more popular as people have started being more open about gender, which has been combatted mostly by the schools Queer Alliance, a group she belongs to.

[name_f]May[/name_f] knows certain members of her family - namely the upper end of her parents generation, as well as her grandparents - don’t fully understand her gender transition, but she’s patient with them, as they’re open to learning and haven’t objected to calling her by her chosen name.

While she’s ultimately happy to be living as who she’s always known herself to be, [name_f]May[/name_f] did lose one good friend when she came out. He refused to even consider accepting that the person he’d grown up with - sharing a love of wrestling and toy cars - was transitioning to become a woman, and made it out that [name_f]May[/name_f] just wanted to stand out, as she compared herself to her older brothers a lot as a child. Now [name_f]May[/name_f] knows this is because she was experiencing gender dysphoria, but the fact someone she’s known for so long responded with so much ignorance hurt, and she was thinking about switching high schools, but the support of her circle of friends stopped this, as they’ve been nothing other than supportive and defensive of her.

She chose the name [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] for her great-great grandmother. And she hasn’t lost her interest in wrestling or cars - specifically mechanics. [name_f]May[/name_f] wants to major in engineering at college and is working hard at her studies to make this possible. Nina’s romance is something [name_f]May[/name_f] also finds absolutely precious, and in thanks for how her little sister’s been one of her biggest supporters, she’s been enquiring with the debate team at her school to help [name_f]Nina[/name_f] further prepare, should she want to get involved once she’s a high schooler.

Ava’s always been an outspoken personality- she always speaks up for what she believes is right, and wants to be a lawyer someday. A fastidious and high-achieving student, [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is also the founder of the Debate Club and Model UN- both her parents are lawyers and [name_f]Columbia[/name_f] University alumni, and she’s hoping to follow in their footsteps.

Though Ava’s a bright girl, she can also be extremely hot-tempered and has gotten into many fights and altercations in her school, one of which having almost resulted in a week-long suspension- her father talked the principal out of it, thankfully, but [name_f]Ava[/name_f] was grounded from electronics for a month. She got into a fight with a girl who was calling people derogatory things, and while she saw her actions as perfectly justified given the circumstances, her family and the school had very different opinions.

Ava’s the youngest of three sisters- both of her sisters are adults, and while she really misses living with them she’s proud of how far they’ve both come. Like [name_f]May[/name_f], she compares herself a lot to her older relatives, but she loves both of them dearly and calls them almost every night. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] absolutely adores [name_f]Nina[/name_f] and sees her as the little sister she never had. [name_f]Nina[/name_f] looks up to [name_f]Ava[/name_f] a lot, especially seeing as she founded the Debate Club and standing up for [name_f]May[/name_f] whenever anyone makes a rude joke about her (or anyone else for that matter). Ava’s not currently in a relationship, but would be open to one in the future, not that she needs one, of course.

Essie is Ava's older sister and the middle McBlaire child, and Arlo is Essie's 5 week old son and Ava's nephew. Although she's taking some time postpartum and soaking in the newborn bubble with Arlo, Essie is also this close to completing law school and uses Arlo's nap times as study breaks. While this might seem like the opposite of what she should be doing and 'taking it easy', Essie's always been incredibly determined and somewhat prone to tunnel vision when she sets her mind to something. From the moment she found out she was pregnant, she never saw it as a situation where she'd have to choose between one or the other - after all, her parents are lawyers and yet managed to raise three bright, competent, lively girls of their own, so why should she think she can't do the same?

Although it doesn’t manifest through her personality, Essie is highly competitive and has always set her standards high, then done all she can to strive to meet them. Of course, there were some setbacks and disappointments, especially when she was younger, but Essie’s a big believer in not giving up and finding a way, and her academic prowess is the prime example of this. She hopes to pass the bar and begin practising as soon as possible, but now she has Arlo as well, she also knows she needs to be realistic and it may not happen as quickly as it could without a child - but that doesn’t mean it won’t.

Essie met her husband on her first day of college and things blossomed from there. While things were hardly perfect, the two got to know each other and discovered how they complemented each other’s strengths and weaknesses, encouraging the other to be the best version of themselves. After a short ‘break’, in which Essie went back to the family home for support, the two reconciled and were engaged shortly after. They married 18 months ago, and had just moved into a new apartment when they discovered they were expecting little Arlo.

Family is huge to Essie, and a day doesn’t go by without her being in touch with her various family members in some way or another. She’s especially excited to see Ava’s progress through high school and into college, and will tell literally anybody who’ll listen (and some who won’t) how proud she is of her baby sister and all the things she knows she’ll accomplish. Essie is closer in age to their older sister and so the two have always had a tight bond, though not to the exclusion of Ava. Now that she’s also a mother, she’s been seeing her family a lot more as she wants to be able to instil the same family values in Arlo.
