Evienne - we desperately need REAL opinions!

We love the classic names [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name], but [name]Eve[/name] is too short (we don’t like any other alternatives), and [name]Vivienne[/name] just isn’t quite what we’re looking for (although we do like the sound of it). So we found Evienne. We really like it.

We are considering Evienne [name]Sophia[/name] (nn [name]Eve[/name]/[name]Evie[/name])

Here is our problem: Before you give us your opinions, I’ll just say that I already know that people will associate it with [name]Evian[/name] water. We are totally fine with that association, so please don’t even mention it.

It seems that every time we ask people for their honest opinions of Evienne, they only comment on the association [name]Evian[/name] water. We desperately need opinions on the name itself - it’s character, style, flow, pronunciation, image, etc. We already know about the water! I hope you understand!

Thanks for your help!!

I think it is an absolutely gorgeous name! And since the water thing doesn’t bother you (which you made quite obvious, lol) - go for it!!!

I like it. It’s like [name]Evelyn[/name]. And you can associate a name with almost anything. Once they see her-all that will go out the window anyway.

I like the sound, and I can see where you’re going with it, but made up names tend to feel unsophisticated and insubstantial next to classics. It’s not a name that commands respect; my immediate thought is that a woman introducing herself as Evienne has an uphill battle to be taken seriously (unless maybe if she is very artsy and flamboyant and says her name in a way that gives it an exotic flaire, but it would be hard to pull off). Not to mention that no one will ever know how to spell it, and it just looks awkward written down - actually it looks exactly like what it is, two other names mashed together.

I much prefer [name]Evelyn[/name] or [name]Vivian[/name], which I think are both beautiful names.

Well, I was going to comment on the [name]Evian[/name] association, which I do regard as a real opinion, but if I look at the name further, past that association, here is what I see:

Evienne looks like [name]Vivienne[/name], clearly, and like [name]Eve[/name], so it is a good combination. However, it does seem that you like [name]Evie[/name], so could you possibly use [name]Evie[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]? The thing about Evienne, beyone [name]Evian[/name] water, is that it reminds me of [name]Vienna[/name] and [name]Vienna[/name] sausages - yes, I know this is ridiculous!

The E sound makes the name softer than [name]Vivienne[/name], but I personally don’t care for names with the -enne ending - they seem off balanced or something, especially Evienne. It honestly looks like the ending, -enne, with some letters at the front…

I’m sorry if these comments are rude, and I wish you good luck!

I think it’s a gorgeous name- really French, feminine and soft sounding.

I agree with pp (can’t remember who) that I can see where you’re going with it but it seems a little awkward to me. It seems made up and once I know the background - not [name]Eve[/name] but not [name]Vivienne[/name] - that’s exactly what it looks like and it doesn’t really seem like a real name; it’s just a mash up of the two names you like the best. I love the [name]Evie[/name] nickname, though, and am sorry that you can’t find any [name]Eve[/name] alternatives that you like.

I think Evienne could pass itself off as a real name. I’m not sure it’s obvious that it was an invention, or a combination of two names. I googled Evienne. The first hit was a name site, the second was a discussion about the name on Yahoo! Answers, and the rest were all Facebook/Myspace profiles of people with that name. If I were you, I’d send those folks a little message [which you should be able to do whether or not you’re a member of those sites] explaining that you’re contemplating the name, found them by googling it, and want to know how they feel about their name. Did they make it up as an online moniker, or is it actually their given name? What were people’s reactions to it as they were growing up? That kind of thing… That might be a good way to get feedback. If you’re not a member of those sites, you would have to include your e-mail in the message so they could write you back.

I think it’s a fine name!

What about [name]Evangeline[/name]?

[name]Evan[/name] for a girl isn’t unheard of!

Evienne seems like an overly-embelished version of [name]Yvonne[/name]. I think [name]Yvonne[/name] is a genuinely glamorous and beautiful name. Have you considered [name]Yvonne[/name]?

I’m not really a fan. I also think you’ll have pronunciation issues.

Evienne is actually not a made up name, in fact it is quite real, although rare. It is found in literature and has geographical influence. It’s origins are from the French commune, ”vian-les-Bains - the same as [name]Evian[/name] water. It means from [name]Evian[/name], [name]France[/name].

I spoke with a woman from [name]France[/name] once named Evienne, she was very beautiful. This was where I first discovered the name. I asked her about it and she told me that Evienne was one of the many names of the Lady in the [name]Lake[/name] from the Arthurian legend. She told me that she loves her name.

It is not made up with two names mashed together, lol. It is a rare but authentic name. I simply wrote that my original dilemma was that I liked two names but they weren’t perfect, but then I found one that was perfect because it had the same good aspects of the two original names that I liked all in one name.

I think it looks and sounds beautiful, and I love the Lady of the [name]Lake[/name] reference. I think you hit on a great choice, based on what you were looking for. Go for it!

Evienne [name]Sophia[/name] is beautiful! The only thing I might worry about is people not knowing how to spell it. Since you don’t care about the water correlation maybe spell it [name]Evian[/name]. It might be easier on her growing up.

I think it’s lovely–really beautiful and elegant. I also like the Lady of the [name]Lake[/name] association.

I like the sound Evienne its very pretty! However i agree with a previous poster that while the sound if gorgeous the spelling seems a bit made up. But i dont think many other people will make that connection. I mean we have to keep in mind that almost everyone on this site loves names and sees little things in names that make them wrong or not fit that people who jsut hear a name as a name not a meaning or another name, just wouldnt ever notice. So i dont think the spelling is actually problemtic. I think its very pretty and i love the nn [name]Evie[/name]!

I don’t really understand what part of the name sounds made up. [name]Every[/name] aspect of this name screams French and legitimate. Sometimes I feel like people just assume an uncommon, ethnic name is made up because they are unfamiliar with it. And an overly embellished version of [name]Yvonne[/name]? Hardly, they aren’t even pronounced the name, not even close.

I think Evienne is a stunning name. I really love many French female names and this one may be one of my favorites. I think Evienne [name]Camille[/name] would be a beautiful combination, French heavy, but beautiful nonetheless. And I think you have found the perfect union between [name]Eve[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name].

I think Evienne is a beautiful name! Evienne [name]Sophie[/name] is very pretty. I did think of the water, but when spelt like this, the association quickly dissapated. Good luck!

I will try to give you my REAL opinion, candidly. I googled “[name]Baby[/name] name Evienne” and see that you have posed the same question about this name Evienne [name]Sophia[/name] [name]Olson[/name] on other baby name websites. This may indicate that you like the name but are very unsure about it. I would suggest that you ask those closest to you – the baby’s grandparents, aunts, and /or uncles their opinion of the name. Most likely they’ll be an important part of your daughter’s life, unlike the Internet strangers whose opinion you’re asking.

I think the name Evienne [name]Sophia[/name] sounds all right, and Evienne certainly sounds French. However, if the name Evienne has some history, it may be very obscure and the name somewhat obsolete, as the name isn’t in my French baby name book (“[name]Les[/name] 1000 prenoms pour vos enfants”) nor found on behindthename.com.

If you want a classic name, Evienne doesn’t fit that description. But if your goal is to come up with a longer name so you can use “[name]Evie[/name]” as the nn, I think Evienne is fine. It’s ‘different’ but sounds and looks all right.
